Shortly after the start MAIN GAME (N. Day) and CHASIN’ SHEILAS (D. Missen) came together.

When questioned about the performance of VULCAN, Jockey D. Crossland explained that the gelding is a natural front runner, however after being headed by HIGHONRUM (T. Bannon) at the start he allowed VULCAN to stride forward and take up a position to the outside of that horse. He added that VULCAN did not travel well throughout the race and failed to run on and in his opinion was disappointing.
When asked about the run of HIGHONRUM, Jockey T. Bannon explained that she had been instructed that the horse, which was having its first start since a spell, had good early speed and she should attempt to lead if possible and make the other runners work early. He said that at about the 200 metres, rather than shifting out to obtain clear running he elected to take a run closer to the running rail, but accidentally dropped his whip. He added that DANCE WICKED finished the race off well, and in his opinion was now looking for races over a longer distance.
