At the 200 metres WINCHESTER PRINCE (J. Stopps) had to be steadied and shifted out to obtain clear running.
Stewards questioned Jockey I. Toward and Trainer Mr R. McLachlan regarding the performance of CAT COVE over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from both parties and viewing the video films, stewards reprimanded Jockey I. Toward under A. Prior to the race trainer Mr S. O’Dea advised stewards that CREDIT CHARGE would be ridden forward today, if possible, contrary to its normal pattern of recent racing. Public announcements were made to this effect.
Trainer Mr S. O’Dea was fined $100 under A. R. 140A for presenting VUSCAR in the enclosure with other than its approved gear.
Following the race it was reported that SHELF SPACE (G. Cullen) lost its off fore plate in running.
At the start SHELF SPACE (G. Cullen) was crowded for room between CREDIT CHARGE (J. Felix), which shifted out, and BAG OF DIAMONDS (D. Missen), which shifted in.
At about the 900 metres HIGH ANXIETY (P. Cullen) hung out and had to be restrained.
Jockey D. Missen was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that near the 200 metres he permitted BAG OF DIAMONDS to shift outwards when insufficiently clear of COSTA RICA (C. Eaton), which had to be checked and lost its position in the field. Jockey Missen was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on Saturday 27th September 2008, up to and including 11th October 2008 (4NQ and Capricornia meetings).
When questioned about the performance of FINAL ROAR, Jockey N. Day explained that he had been instructed to allow the gelding to settle as in the past it has not performed well when ridden forward. He added, however, that FINAL ROAR got further back than he had intended but finished the race off well. The explanations were noted.
After the race Jockey C. Whiteley reported that DEMOS hung out from the 600 metres until straightening for home. A post-race veterinary examination of DEMOS did not reveal any obvious abnormalities.
Stewards opened an inquiry into the running and handling of DEMOS (C. Whiteley). After taking evidence from Jockey C. Whiteley and trainer Mr J. Barr, viewing the video films and hearing stewards observations, stewards adjourned the inquiry to a time and date to be fixed.

Whiteley and Apprentice Fujinuma were advised to take greater care in future. A post-race veterinary examination of CRYSTAL MOSS revealed that the mare had possibly sustained superficial flexor tendon damage to the near hind leg.

When corrected GREMMO shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of RANMOORO. At the same time LACHLANS LAGOON shifted in, resulting in RANMOORO being checked.
Jockey T. Bannon was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that near the 350 metres she permitted GREMMO to shift outwards when insufficiently clear of GREAT PORTENT (J. Felix), which was checked and lost its position in the field.
