Shortly after the start BEADSWORTH (P. Cullen), which jumped with its head in the air, was further hampered when crowded for room between HETTY (App. E. Ljung) and ASSEMBLY (J. Dickinson), which was taken out by EIREANN (G. Kliese), which shifted out after beginning awkwardly.
In the middle stages STANDFORD (App. S. Wiseman) hung out.
For a considerable distance in the early stages TANMEYYA (T. Bannon) attempted to buck and lost ground. Trainer J. Manzelmann was advised that TANMEYYA must trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to being permitted to race again.
Stewards questioned App. E. Ljung in relation to the poor performance of HETTY. App. Ljung stated that from the wide barrier she was able to obtain a midfield position one off the running rail. App. Ljung said that from the 600 metres the mare commenced to hang out and changed stride on a number of occasions. App. Ljung added that when placed under pressure from the 400 metres the mare failed to respond to her riding and proved disappointing. Upon returning to scale App. Ljung said that in her opinion HETTY felt sore. A post-race veterinary examination of HETTY revealed that the mare was lame in the off foreleg. Trainer J. Ryan advised stewards that it will be her recommendation to connections to retire HETTY from racing. Nevertheless, Ms Ryan was advised that should she intend to race HETTY again, she must provide a veterinary clearance for the mare.

After being caught wide in the early stages KING AMONG KINGS was allowed to stride forward and obtain a position outside the leader near the 1000 metres.
When questioned about the performance of WHY NOT NOW, which performed below market expectations, Jockey D. Hayse advised that the gelding travelled comfortably just off the speed throughout the event, however when placed under pressure in the home straight ran on only fairly.
Race 4: – Evans & Tate Class 2 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – EUREKA DUBAI 2nd – ROCKETMOUNTAINHIGH 3rd – CRAIGLEA VANCE 4th – BASHIGA

CARE TO SHARE (J. Felix) and WISEGUY (I. Toward) were slow to begin.
Near the 700 metres JAXTER’S BALLET (App. J. Kuskopf) improved onto the heels of ALEXANDER PARADE (App. S. Wiseman) and raced ungenerously for a short distance whilst being restrained.
Over the concluding stages EUREKA DUBAI (W. D’Avila) laid in, and near the 100 metres CRAIGLEA VANCE (P. Cullen) was forced to steady to avoid the heels of EUREKA DUBAI.
JAXTER’S BALLET (App. J. Kuskopf) and BRANDY BEAU (M. Elliott) raced wide throughout.
Stewards questioned App. S. Wiseman in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance of ALEXANDER PARADE. App. Wiseman advised that after beginning well the gelding raced midfield for the majority of the event. App. Wiseman advised that in her opinion ALEXANDER PARADE resented racing amongst other runners today and as a result never travelled comfortably throughout the event. App. Wiseman added that at its most recent start, where the gelding was successful, it was able to shift to the outside of runners in the home straight. App. Wiseman was of the opinion that the gelding was best suited when ridden in that manner, however today she was unable to ride ALEXANDER PARADE in this manner in the straight. App. Wiseman was also of the opinion that, bearing in mind those factors, the gelding’s performance today was not entirely disappointing. The explanation was noted.
Stewards questioned trainer Mr J. O’Dea in relation to the seemingly improved performance of EUREKA DUBAI. Mr O’Dea advised that at its most recent start EUREKA DUBAI had drawn badly and therefore from a better barrier today he was expecting an improved showing. Mr O’Dea further advised that EUREKA DUBAI had worked well in preparation for today’s event and, given that the horse was dropping in class today, he was not surprised at the improved performance. Mr O’Dea added that whilst he did support the horse today, his betting was in accordance with his normal betting pattern. The explanation was noted.
Race 5: – Rawnsley Autos Class 3 Handicap – 1200 metres

On returning to scale Jockey Stanley reported that ELECTRIC BLUE had a tendency to hang out for the majority of the event.
Following the race Jockey P. Cullen advised stewards that SHADOW LINE had a tendency to shift out under pressure over the concluding stages and as such he was unable to ride the horse out with his full vigor.
Jockey I. Toward reported to stewards following the event that DIAMOND BILL travelled only fairly throughout the event today and although he was held up for clear running at various stages in the home straight, the gelding was not travelling strongly at that point and ran on only moderately in the home straight. Jockey Toward said that, whilst the gelding was somewhat disappointing today, the horse runs its best races on rain-affected tracks, consequently the Good (3) racing surface today may have been too firm for the gelding. The explanation was noted.
Race 6: – Colbran Holdings Pty Ltd Townsville Amateurs Cup Open Handicap – 1960 metres
1st – SARBI 2nd – PAYTEEVEE 3rd – MIDNIGHT HUSTLER 4th – MOHTASHEM
Rounding the home turn PAYTEEVEE (C. Whiteley) laid in.

Stewards questioned App. S. Wiseman in relation to the tactics adopted on MORE MORE MORE today, whereby the gelding raced three wide from the 1200 metres and, furthermore, in relation to the overall performance of the gelding. App. Wiseman stated that passing the 1200 metres SARBI, which was racing to the inside of MORE MORE MORE, commenced to over-race and raced ungenerously for a short distance, and as such shifted out, taking MORE MORE MORE three wide for the remainder of the event. App. Wiseman said that from the 700 metres MORE MORE MORE failed to sprint as she had expected and raced somewhat flat-footed. App. Wiseman further advised that the gelding ran on fairly in the home straight. The explanations were noted.

In the early and middle stages ERFAAN (C. Whiteley) over-raced.
