TRACK RATING:
Following an inspection by stewards the track rating was upgraded from a DEAD (4) to a GOOD (3) at 1.00 p.m.
Race 1: - Feed 2 Go Hygain Feeding Champions QTIS 2-Y-O Maiden Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – CRAIGLEA IVY 2nd – ROUND MOUNTAIN GAL 3rd – CRAIGLEA BROOKE 4th – DRAGON HART
At the start CRAIGLEA BROOKE (App. B. Richardson) shifted out abruptly, made heavy contact with GAMBLER’S GAME (N. Callow), which lost considerable ground and almost dislodged its rider. GAMBLER’S GAME then bucked for some distance. Trainer Ms A. Usher was advised that the colt must perform to the satisfaction of the stewards in an official barrier trial before being permitted to race again.
MAGIC OF MURTA (T. Bannon) commenced to buck shortly after the start. Trainer D. Symons was advised that MAGIC OF MURTA must perform to the satisfaction of the stewards in a barrier trial prior to being permitted to race again.
Stewards questioned Jockey T. Bannon as to her riding tactics on MAGIC OF MURTA. Jockey Bannon explained that she had been instructed to take up a forward position, or to lead if possible. Jockey Bannon said that the filly commenced to buck shortly after the start and consequently she elected to take up a rearward position as she was reluctant to place the horse under pressure. Jockey Bannon added that in the home straight MAGIC OF MURTA raced greenly and she was unable to use her usual vigour in the run to the finish. The explanations were noted.
On jumping, BAR SHOW (D. Hayse) was tightened for room between DRAGON HART (App. J. Kuskopf) and VILLAINOUS LASS (App. S. Wiseman), both of which shifted ground. As a consequence BAR SHOW lost considerable ground.
JORDANS JET (M. Usher) began awkwardly.
Near the 650 metres HOW ABOUT ME (App. B. Swaffer) shifted in, despite the efforts of its rider, and tightened the running of JORDANS JET and BAR SHOW. As a consequence JORDANS JET lost its rightful running. App. Swaffer was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Race 2: - Searles Garden Products Maiden Handicap – 1300 Metres
1st – PRESSUM 2nd - MALIBU ROSE 3rd – SANDBAR JACK 4th – STRITIQUE
At the start RUM RATION (App. K. Aho) shifted in and made contact with BELLE I AM (App. J. Orman).
Leaving the 1200 metres LADY ISLES (App. E. Ljung) commenced to over-race and had to be steadied from the heels of STRITIQUE (App. B. Swaffer).
Near the winning post LADY ISLES attempted a narrow run between LAKE VERMONT (P. Cullen) and SPECIAL TALE (F. Edwards), shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of LAKE VERMONT, which became unbalanced. Shortly after that incident LAKE VERMONT shifted out, forcing LADY ISLES out onto the hindquarters of SPECIAL TALE, which also became unbalanced, shifted out across the heels of STRITIQUE and had to be steadied.
RUM RATION (App. K. Aho) raced wide throughout.
Race 3: - Kernan Developments Pty Ltd Class 5 Handicap – 1400 metres
1st – HOLDONTOYAHORSES 2nd – KOOLASACAT 3rd – GWENNIE 4th – VON SEBASTIAN
On jumping, GARRULOUS (A. Dykes) and VON SEBASTIAN (App. J. Orman) bumped.
For some distance leaving the 1200 metres OUR MIMI (A.Coome) over-raced on the heels of GARRULOUS.
Near the 400 metres OUR MIMI had to be momentarily steadied to avoid the heels of GARRULOUS.
At about the 150 metres VON SEBASTIAN had to be steadied to avoid the heels of GWENNIE (App. S. Wiseman), which shifted ground slightly. App. Wiseman was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
KASA GOLD (P. Cullen) raced wide throughout.
Race 4: – MAKK Electrical Open Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – CHEVAL ARGENTE 2nd – ASSERTIVE ALBERT 3rd – GO AMIGO 4th – OSCARMANIA
Near the 600 metres PEOPLE’S CHOICE (J. Felix) had to be steadied from the heels of ASSERTIVE ALBERT (App. J. Orman), which shifted in. App. Orman was advised to exercise more care and leave sufficient room for other runners when shifting ground.
Leaving the 500 metres SEEK DE FORTUNE (App. E. Ljung) over-raced on the heels of CHEVAL ARGENTE (N. Callow).
Race 5: – Tribute to John Ross Class 3 Plate – 1000 metres
1st – SHADOW LINE 2nd – GOLD BENDER 3rd – MADE IN AMERICA 4th – DIVA DIOR
The declaration of correct weight was delayed whilst App. J. Kuskopf, the rider of DIVA DIOR, which finished fourth, viewed the stewards patrol films to determine whether she should lodge an objection. Having done so, App. Kuskopf elected not to lodge a protest and stewards declared correct weight on the judge’s numbers.
At the start TALCUM (A. Dykes) was tightened for room between DIVA DIOR and BASHIGA (F. Edwards), both of which shifted ground.
Near the 600 metres SHADOW LINE (G. Kliese) improved onto the heels of SHADOWS OF SIN (A. Coome) and had to be steadied. KILLER WASP (M. Usher), which was following, also had to be steadied away from the heels of SHADOW LINE. KILLER WASP then raced in restricted room for a short distance.
Near the 200 metres Jockey G. Cullen, the rider of MADE IN AMERICA, dropped his whip.
BASHIGA, DAZZLE ON (D. Hayse), TALCUM and MIO MONDO (App. J. Orman) all raced wide throughout.
Following the race trainer G. Doolan reported that he was disappointed with the performance of RICH ‘N’ FAMOUS (G. Watson) and that he will send the gelding for an immediate spell.
Race 6: – Energy Power Systems BenchMark 60 Handicap – 1400 metres
1st – FILLE VILAINE 2nd – DAMKY 3rd – MORE THAN A SONG 4th – MIATA
For some distance near the 1200 metres SMART STUFF (M. Usher) over-raced on the heels of DAMKY (G. Kliese)
Near the 1000 metres SMART STUFF again had to be steadied away from the heels of DAMKY, shifted out and forced MIATA (App. J. Orman) wider on the track. MIATA raced wide thereafter.
At the 1000 metres FILLE VILAINE (D. Hayse) shifted in of its own accord and made contact with the running rail.
ZATSACAT (App. E. Ljung) over-raced in the middle stages and for some distance was inclined to lay in.
In the middle stages HEY HEY (P. Cullen) commenced to over-race and had to be steadied from the heels of MIATA and shifted wider on the track.
Approaching the 600 metres BANDIDAS (F. Edwards) was tightened for room and had to be checked when racing between DAMKY and MORE THAN A SONG (A. Coome), which shifted out slightly. SNIP PINS LASS (T. Bannon), which was following, had to be steadied away from the heels of BANDIDAS.
Race 7: - Universal Cranes Class 2 Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – FROG HOLLOW 2nd – TOUCH OF ELEGANCE 3rd – SLIPNOT 4th – CRAIGLEA PIXIE
When Jockey G. Kliese was to be overweight, Jockey C. Whiteley was substituted as the rider of FROG HOLLOW. Jockey Kliese was reprimanded under A.R. 120(b). In assessing penalty stewards took into account Jockey Kliese’s record in respect of this Rule.
LOFTY’S MATE (A. Dykes) began awkwardly.
In the early and middle stages ALTAHLEE (T. Bannon) raced wide.
Near the 300 metres TOUCH OF ELEGANCE (S. Wilson)shifted in when attempting a run between CRAIGLEA PIXIE (App. E. Ljung) and EVERYTHING’S SET (App. B. Swaffer). EVERYTHING’S SET then shifted in, momentarily tightening the running of CRASHING (A. Coome).
DE LA SOUL (D. Hayse) raced wide throughout.
