When App. N. Yadi was unable to fulfil his engagement, for personal reasons, App. B. Swaffer was substituted as the rider of ARMY OF ONE.

Following the race Jockey F. Edwards reported that in the early stages LIDEEM was obliged to race wide and when placed under pressure the mare felt flat, compared to its most recent start. A post-race veterinary examination of LIDEEM did not reveal any abnormalities.

Near the 800 metres ARMY OF ONE (App. B. Swaffer) improved up onto the heels of LIDEEM and had to be steadied.

Rounding the home turn FROG HOLLOW (G. Kliese) was held up and unable to obtain clear running.

In the home straight JAXTER’S BALLET (App. J. Kuskopf) shifted out under pressure.

At the start AVADALE (App. S. Fawke) jumped outwards and made heavy contact with SEEK DE FORTUNE (App. E. Ljung), which was forced out, and made contact with QUEEN THYRA (App. S. Wiseman).

NATE (G. Kliese) began very awkwardly.

From the 700 metres until rounding the home turn SEEK DE FORTUNE over-raced.

Near the 250 metres AVADALE shifted out and bumped DEHERE HUNTER (S. Wilson).

QUEEN THYRA was forced to race 3 wide throughout.

App. S. Fawke reported that AVADALE travelled well in the early and middle stages, however when placed under pressure in the home straight failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare had sustained a mild laceration over the near fore fetlock.

Race 4: – www.townsvilleturfclub.com.au Maiden Plate – 1000 metres
1st – SPECIAL TALE 2nd – DARING LIGHT 3rd – CRUSADER GOLD 4th – SOLE SURVIVOR

The start was delayed when DIVIDED (App. B. Swaffer) was difficult to load and then was fractious in the barriers. Trainer J. Hassett was advised that a warning will be placed on the gelding’s barrier manners.

SOLE SURVIVOR (A. Dykes) began awkwardly.

ROCKYFAME (G. Watson) was slow to begin.

PRINCESS CAVIAR (App. J. Orman), SMUTTY’S SISTER (D. Andrews) and RUBY’S SONG (J. Felix) raced wide throughout.

Jockey A. Coome reported that DOUBLE NIP was reluctant to stretch out in the early stages. Jockey Coome said that in his opinion the gelding was not suited by the drop back in distance from 1300 metres to 1000 metres. Trainer B. Williams will be interviewed in regard to the gelding’s future racing program. A post-race veterinary examination of DOUBLE NIP did not reveal an abnormalities.

Over the concluding stages DIVIDED improved up onto the heels of RAINBOW ROSE (App. E. Ljung) and shifted out abruptly.

The start was delayed when PUBLIC AFFAIR (App. E. Ljung) was fractious in the enclosure. Trainer J. Russell was advised that a warning will be placed on the mare’s race day manners.

FIDDY GEE (App. J. Orman) was slow to begin.

On jumping away ELAY PRINCESS (T. Bannon) and CROTCHET (G. Kliese) were tightened for room between SEVEN RED (S. Wilson) and BALLISTA DEE (A. Dykes), which shifted out.

At the entrance to the straight CROTCHET was tightened for room between SEVEN RED and ELAY PRINCESS (T. Bannon), which shifted out.

DART HEAD (N. Callow) raced wide throughout.

When questioned as to the performance of CROTCHET, which raced below market expectations, Jockey G. Kliese stated that the gelding failed to muster early speed and raced further back than had been intended. Jockey KIiese added that in the straight CROTCHET failed to run on and was disappointing. Jockey Kliese said that he had suggested to trainer K. Baumann that he experiment with the approved gear for CROTCHET. Mr Baumann agreed with the comments made by Jockey Kliese and confirmed that he will experiment with the horse’s gear.

Race 6: – XXXX Gold Class 3 Plate – 1630 metres
1st – ARIADNE 2nd – PACHAMAMA 3rd – PRESS PLAY 4th – MANZANITA

Trainer D. Symons advised stewards that Jockey T. Bannon will be instructed to ride BROCHETTE in a forward position and to lead, if possible, contrary to the mare’s normal racing pattern. Public announcements were made to that effect and the mare was ridden accordingly.

Jockey W. D’Avila pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that leaving the 1500 metres he allowed PRESS PLAY to shift in, taking MANZANITA (App. B. Swaffer) in onto PACHAMAMA (P. Cullen), resulting in that mare making contact with the hindquarters of STRADIVARI MISS (G. Kliese) and having to be checked. Jockey D’Avila was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 2 NQ meetings, to commence at midnight on 21st January 2014, up to and including midnight on 26th January 2014.

In the early and middle stages ARIADNE (A. Coome) raced wide.

In the home straight PRESS PLAY (W. D’Avila) shifted out whilst being ridden along. Jockey D’Avila was reprimanded and reminded of his obligation to stop riding and straighten his mounts.

Near the 800 metres FLYING KYLE (S. Wilson) had to be checked when racing in restricted room to the inside of CLEAR (App. J. Orman), which was racing to the inside of ARIADNE (A. Coome). After taking evidence from the parties involved, viewing the stewards patrol films and acting on their own observations, stewards could not be completely satisfied that any one rider was responsible for the incident and consequently no further action was taken.

At about the 300 metres STRADIVARI MISS (G. Kliese) was disappointed for a run between ROMAN PLEASURE (J. Felix) and REGENCY ROYALE (App. S. Wiseman), which shifted out under pressure.

ROMAN PLEASURE (J. Felix) raced wide throughout.

Jockey G. Kliese reported that STRADIVARI MISS raced like a tired horse and resented racing inside other runners. Jockey Kliese added that connections had informed him that the mare will be sent for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination of STRADIVARI MISS did not reveal any significant abnormalities.

A post -race veterinary examination of BROCHETTE did not reveal any abnormalities.
