Mr Kavanagh pleaded guilty to a charge under A.R. 80F for failing to obtain the consent of the stewards to stable ELAY PRINCESS in any location other than his registered stable address as notified on his current licence. Mr Kavanagh was fined $300.

Race 1: - www.townsvilleturfclub.com.au Maiden Handicap – 1400 metres
1st – DR STRANGELOVE 2nd – DARING LIGHT 3rd – HILTON MISS 4th – VENCEREMOS

Trainer S. Kavanagh was fined $100 under L.R. 67(1) for failing to declare Jockey G. Watson as the rider of FRENCH JOY by the prescribed time.

DARING LIGHT (App. S. Fawke) began awkwardly and lost ground.

HILTON MISS (App. S. Wiseman) was slow to begin.
For a short distance passing the 600 metres TOUGH COMPANY (App. J. Orman), which was inclined to race greenly and had to be momentarily steadied when racing tight between CHOMARU (P. Cullen) and VENCEREMOS (S. Pawsey).

For some distance in the early part of the home straight DARING LIGHT had difficulty obtaining clear running when awkwardly placed on the heels of VENCEREMOS (S. Pawsey), and had to be shifted to the outside of that gelding to improve and in doing so made contact with CASINOJEAN (A. Spinks).

Jockey J. Felix, the rider of CHARLIE’S GOLD, was cautioned under A.R.137A(4)(c) in regard to his use of the whip when the gelding was out of contention.

DR STRANGELOVE and CHOMARU both lost a front nearside plate in running.

Race 2: - Fine Wine Partners Fillies and Mares Maiden Handicap – 1000 Metres
1st – ROCKING WITH ROSIE 2nd - MANUMIT 3rd – KOOLKUNA BABE 4th – CRAIGLEA ZETA

On returning to scale Jockey A. Coome reported that in his opinion CRAIGLEA ZETA did not handle today’s slow track conditions.

RAINBOW ROSE (D. Simmons) shifted out at the start and made contact with CRAIGLEA ZETA.

Passing the 700 metres MANUMIT (App. J. Orman) had to be steadied when racing tight to the inside of CRAIGLEA ZETA, which shifted in marginally.

Over the concluding stages MANUMIT was inclined to lay in.

Race 3: - Book A Function @ Cluden Park QTIS 3-Y-O Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – MCCONACHY 2nd – DAZZLE ON 3rd - SHEKOU 4th – DAYTONA

At the start WATCH THE RED (App. J. Orman) shifted out and made contact with SHEKOU (A. Spinks).

Passing the 600 metres SHEKOU improved onto the heels of JUST A FRACTION (J. Felix) and had to be steadied.

When questioned regarding his riding of SHEKOU, Jockey A. Spinks explained that he was instructed to ride the filly in a forward position if circumstances permitted. Jockey Spinks stated that after beginning only fairly SHEKOU was unable to muster early speed and consequently he elected to ride the filly at the rear of the field. Jockey Spinks added that after being briefly held up on the heels of JUST A FRACTION rounding the home turn, he attempted to obtain a narrow run between MCCONACHY (F. Edwards) and DAYTONA ROAD (D. Simmons), however SHEKOU was reluctant to improve and was inclined to lay in.

App. J. Orman reported that WATCH THE RED laid out throughout the event.

Trainer B. Williams was fined $100 under A.R. 140B for presenting WATCH THE RED in the enclosure with other than its approved gear, namely without blinkers.

Race 4: – Follow Us On Twitter Fillies and Mares Class 1 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – SHERIDAN 2nd – PATTO’S GIRL 3rd – KISS ME QUICK 4th – DREAM WALKIN’

The declaration of correct weight was delayed whilst stewards considered an objection lodged by App J. Orman, the rider of KISS ME QUICK which finished 3rd, against PATTO’S GIRL (App. S. Wiseman) being declared 2nd, alleging interference in the home straight. After taking evidence from the parties involved, viewing the official patrol videos and acting on their own observations, it was established that KISS ME QUICK was inclined to lay in away from PATTO’S GIRL. Stewards could not attribute any interference suffered by KISS ME QUICK to PATTO’S GIRL. Accordingly the protest was dismissed and the placings ordered to stand. In deciding not to issue a penalty against App. Orman under A.R. 165(3), for lodging what the stewards deemed to be a frivolous protest, stewards were mindful of the relative inexperience of App. Orman.

Passing the 500 metres DREAM WALKIN’ (A. Coome) had to be steadied when racing tight to the inside of CRAIGLEA EVITA (App. S. Fawke), which was carried inwards by ARTIVA (A. Spinks), resulting in that mare also racing tight to the inside of CARE TO SHARE (App. J. Kuskopf, forcing that mare also having to be eased. App Kuskopf was advised to exercise more care and ensure that she leaves sufficient racing room for runners to her inside.

Race 5: – Join The TTC 100 Club Now BenchMark 65 Handicap – 1300 metres
1st – ZIP THE LIP 2nd – PINK ‘N’ BLUE 3rd – LIL’ RED MONKEY 4th – MILITARY TIME

The declaration of correct weight was delayed so that Jockey J. Dickinson, the rider of LIL’ RED MONKEY which finished 3rd, could view the video film with to determine whether to lodge an objection against PINK ‘N’ BLUE (W. D’Avila) being declared 2nd. Having done so, Jockey Dickinson elected not to lodge a protest. When stewards were similarly satisfied, correct weight was semaphored on the judge’s numbers. At a subsequent inquiry it was established that passing the 100 metres LIL’ RED MONKEY improved onto the heels of ZIP THE LIP, became awkwardly placed on the heels of that runner and had to be steadied.

CRASHING (A. Spinks) and FROG HOLLOW (C. Whiteley) were slow to begin.

When questioned as to the poor performance of FROG HOLLOW, Jockey C. Whiteley stated that the gelding never travelled comfortably and failed to handle the slow track conditions. Jockey Whiteley said that when placed under pressure prior to straightening FROG HOLLOW failed to respond to his riding and was most disappointing. Jockey Whiteley added that in his opinion the gelding had come to the end of its preparation. Trainer B. Kenning advised that FROG HOLLOW will be given a brief spell. A post-race veterinary examination of FROG HOLLOW did not reveal any abnormalities. A swab sample was taken.

Race 6: – SKY Racing Class 6 Plate – 1200 metres
1st – SECRET STEALTH 2nd – STRATO MOSTRO 3rd – JAXTER’S BALLET 4th – SEEK DE FORTUNE

When Jockey A. Coome was unable to fulfil his engagement for CRAIGLEA TEQUILA for personal reasons, Jockey A. Spinks was substituted.

DEHERE HUNTER (S. Wilson) refused to load into the barriers. Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the gelding at 4.30 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on DEHERE HUNTER be refunded in full and that the following deductions apply:

14¢ in the dollar for the win, for the winner SECRET STEALTH
14¢ in the dollar for the place for the winner, SECRET STEALTH
11¢ in the dollar for the place for 2nd, STRATO MOSTRO
17¢ in the dollar for the place for 3rd, JAXTER’S BALLET

Trainer Mr B. Kenning indicated that DEHERE HUNTER will now leave his stables. Nevertheless, he was advised that DEHERE HUNTER must trial to the satisfaction of stewards before being permitted to race again.

Jockey G. Kliese, the rider of STRATO MOSTRO, was reminded of his obligation under A.R. 137(b) to ride his mounts out right to the finish.

Race 7: - Like Us On Facebook Colts, Geldings and Entires Class 1 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – HARVEY THE RABBIT 2nd – ELOVACHILL 3rd – THE RUSTLA 4th – AL SAMUI

ZATSACAT was a late scratching, at 8.25 a.m. Trainer R. Finch was fined $100 under L.R. 68 for failing to scratch the gelding by the prescribed time.

DANCING HUSSAR (G. Watson) was slow to begin and failed to stretch out in the early stages.

WOOLGAR ROAD (App. J. Kuskopf) began awkwardly, shifted out abruptly and hampered THE RUSTLA (App. S. Wiseman).

For some distance rounding the home turn ELOVACHILL (App. S. Fawke) was held up on the heels of the weakening SCHOONER ROCK (G. Kliese).

PICK AND RUN (C. Whiteley), which was inclined to lay out rounding the home turn, carried GLOUCESTER STORM (App. J. Orman) out onto WOOLGAR ROAD, which was hampered and became awkwardly placed on the heels of THE RUSTLA.

When questioned Jockey G. Kliese could offer no explanation for the poor performance of SCHOONER ROCK other than that in his opinion the gelding failed to handle the slow track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination of SCHOONER ROCK did not reveal any abnormalities. A swab sample was taken. Trainer Mr B. Kenning will be interviewed in regard to the performance of SCHOONER ROCK.
