GENERAL:

Stewards acceded to a request by Apprentice M. McGillivray on Acceptance morning to raise his riding weight for this particular meeting to 53 kg. Public announcements were made accordingly.

Race 1: - www.townsvilleturfclub.com.au QTIS 2YO Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – CRAIGLEA WANDOO 2nd - CRAIGLEA JABIRU 3rd - CRAIGLEA ZIP 4th - CRAIGLEA ALTISE

CRAIGLEA ALTISE – Was slow to begin.

CRAIGLEA GEM – Contacted another runner at the start.

CRAIGLEA ZIP – Contacted by another runner at the start.

CRAIGLEA JABIRU – Blundered passing the 600 metres.

CRAIGLEA WANDOO – Leaving the 100 metres was inclined to race greenly, shifted in and made contact with CRAIGLEA ZIP (App. B. Swaffer), which in turn shifted in abruptly and hampered CRAIGLEA ALTISE (J. P. Stanley).

Trainer’s representative S. Johnston was fined $400 under A.R. 140A(3) for presenting CRAIGLEA ZIP and CRAIGLEA GEM in the enclosure with their incorrect saddle cloths.

Following the runner of this race the track rating was upgraded from a SOFT 7 to a SOFT 6 and from a HEAVY 8 to a SOFT 7 from the 350 metres to the winning post.

Race 2: - Townsville RSL Maiden Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – MORE NORTHERLY 2nd – TOP DECISION 3rd - JUST A FRACTION 4th – KOOLKUNA BABE

BARELY THERE – Was slow to begin.

LOCKIEBE – Was slow to begin.

EXPEL – Shortly after the start shifted in abruptly, despite the efforts of its rider, and carried SILRUVIAN inwards onto KOOLKUNA BABE.

SILRUVIAN – Taken inwards onto another runner shortly after the start.

KOOLKUNA BABE – Bumped shortly after the start.

BENEDIRE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding was sore in the back. Stable representative was told that a veterinary clearance will be required before the gelding will be permitted to start again.

Race 3: - Steve McKenzie Consultant Engineer BenchMark 60 Handicap – 1630 metres
1st – SECRET ORDERS 2nd – TOUGH COMPANY 3rd - STANDFORD 4th – EIREANN

UNPUBLISHED CRITIC – Stood flat-footed and missed the start (2 lengths).

STANDFORD – Was a little slow to begin.

MARKAZY – A post-race veterinary examination of the mare, which performed below market expectations, did not reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer Mr R. Chillemi undertook to report to the stewards if anything was amiss with the horse in the days following the event.

PRESSUM – Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages.

EIREANN – Shifted out over the concluding stages.

MY SAVING GRACE – Failed to respond to its rider’s urgings from the 600 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare was lame in the near foreleg. The stable representative was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance prior to the mare being permitted to race again.

Race 4 – AGM Home Improvements Class 1 Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – MODEL TO EXCEED 2nd – I’M MARIAH 3rd - ALPINE GOLD 4th – DAMKY
MARK ME OLEE – Stood flat-footed and missed the start (4 lengths). Trainer Mr B. Williams was advised that a warning will be placed on the gelding’s barrier manners and should it perform similarly in future it will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial before being permitted to race again.
OUR IRIS – Bucked shortly after the start and then took no competitive part in the event. Trainer E. Russo was told that the mare will have to perform satisfactorily in a trial under race day pressure before being permitted to race again.
TEN TORINOS – Crowded for room shortly after the start. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight.
I’M MARIAH – Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight and was inclined to lay in.
SEQUALO SUZIE - Shortly after straightening for home and at the entrance to the straight shifted out abruptly, despite the efforts of its rider.
Race 5: – Garrards Horse & Hound BenchMark 65 Handicap - 1000 metres
1st – KINGS ROAD 2nd - TABASCO FORCE 3rd – EXAGGERATION 4th – MIGHTY BENDER

ROAD FOX – Crowded for room shortly after the start.

VIA CON DIOS – Approaching the 100 metres shifted out under pressure and momentarily hampered another runner.

MIGHTY BENDER – Momentarily hampered approaching the 100 metres when another runner shifted out under pressure.

KINGS ROAD – Rider fined $200 under A.R. 145 for returning to scale more than half a kilogram above his allotted weight.

Race 6: – Northern Body Corporate Management BenchMark 70 Handicap – 1300 metres
1st – MIATA 2nd – GUNDY STAR 3rd – MAL’S PRIDE 4th – SHEKOU

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer Mr B. Williams for the late declaration of Apprentice M. McGillivray as the rider of MARK ME OLEE.

SMOOTH GENERAL – Was slow to begin.

GUNDY STAR - Passing the 1200 metres was crowded for room.

KING MAGNUSSON – On returning to scale the rider explained that the gelding travelled comfortably throughout the event, however when placed under pressure rounding the home turn failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing.

Apprentice B. Swaffer pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that approaching the first turn, near the 1000 metres, he allowed MIATA to shift in when not clear of KING MAGNUSSON (C. Whiteley), which was taken in across the running of NATE (P. Cullen), which was severely checked and lost its rightful running. Apprentice Swaffer was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 3 NQ meetings, to commence at midnight on 10th January 2015, up to and including midnight on 28th January 2015.

Race 7: KordaMentha Handicap – 1400 metres
1st – LEXCEN 2nd – JUST HUSTLED 3rd – DREAM’N’IGNITE 4th – CASTLE EXPRESS

LEXCEN – When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, trainer M. Dale said that the gelding, which was racing a further 400 metres in distance today, appreciated being able to dictate the pace of the event. Mr Dale also attributed the performance to a significant drop in weight.

BOOM SHA LA – A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare was displaying respiratory distress. Trainer F. Wieland was advised that prior to the horse racing again he must provide a veterinary clearance, including the results of an endoscopic analysis.

DREAM’N’IGNITE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare had sustained a minor laceration to the near foreleg.
