Race 1: - Tropical Containers QTIS 2-Y-O Maiden Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – CRAIGLEA EVELYN 2nd – WILD AZ WILL 3rd – CRAIGLEA IMPREZA 4th – TYPHOON PARADISE
CRAIGLEA AMITY - Stewards questioned trainer Ms K. Johnston in relation to the acceptance and subsequent scratching of the filly. She explained that it was her intention to start the filly in this event, however following its run at Rockhampton it did not pull up as well as expected and had been treated for suspected Ross River fever.
DREAM WORLD – Slow to begin.
TYPHOON PARADISE – Slow to begin.
CRAIGLEA IMPREZA – Hung out throughout the event and proved difficult to ride. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. The racing manners of the filly were brought to the attention of trainer K. Johnston.
Race 2: North Queensland Customs Services QTIS 3-Y-O Handicap – 1000 Metres
1st – RYLEE’S SAGA 2nd - WICKED CRIME 3rd – ISLAND TANG 4th – ULTRA RED
TURN UP THE VOLUME – Began awkwardly.
CRAIGLEA DIXIE – Slow to begin. Was held up for clear running over the concluding stages and went to the line without being fully tested.
WICKED CRIME – Slow to begin. Raced wide without cover throughout.
ISLAND TANG – Inclined to lay out rounding the home turn.
MOLONGLE JOY – Jockey C. Lennon was spoken to regarding his use of the whip on the filly when out of contention.
Race 3: Powerhouse Distribution Class 1 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – ALL ROSIE 2nd – ZOE BAY 3rd – FALVERINA /SNITZEL ROSE (dh)
GALLIVANTING - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Jockey C. Lennon was fined $100 under A.R. 137A for striking the mare on 6 occasions prior to the 100 metres one more time than is permitted under the rule. In assessing penalty stewards took into account Jockey Lennon’s poor record in relation to the rule.
ZOE BAY – Jockey G. Kliese was reprimanded under A.R. 137A for using his whip on the mare prior to the 100 metres on 7 occasions, 2 more than is permitted under the rule.
Race 4: – Hiway Truck Parts Maiden Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – LEMON CRUIZER 2nd – PROSPERUM 3rd – ZEDAHEEL 4th – KHADIJA
KHADIJA – Crowded for room at the start. Jockey F. Edwards was reprimanded under A.R. 137A for using his whip on the mare on 8 occasions prior to the 100 metres 2 strikes more than is permitted under the rule.
PROSPERUM – Began awkwardly.
DAESY DANORO – Slow to begin.
ZEDAHEEL – Raced wide throughout.
LEMON CRUIZER – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
WHO’S RIGHT – Passing the 200 metres had to be steadied when momentarily crowded for room.
Jockey C. Lennon pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a), in that passing the 200 metres he allowed HIGH ON KISSES to shift in whilst riding it along when insufficiently clear of HAPPY TO BE HERE (P. Cullen), which had to be checked. Jockey Lennon’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence at midnight and expire on Thursday 31st December 2015 on which day he may ride. When assessing penalty stewards took into account Jockey Lennon’s guilty plea and his good record in regard to the rule.
Race 5: – Global Welding Supplies BenchMark 65 Handicap – 1609 metres
1st – BOBCAT 2nd – SHOW US A SMILE 3rd – FILLE VILAINE 4th – BERNICATTI
FILLE VILAINE – Slow to begin, then over-raced in the early and middle stages.
SHOW US A SMILE – Raced wide early and then was allowed to stride forward and assume the lead.
BOBCAT – In the home straight was inclined to lay in.
When questioned regarding his riding of BELLE I AM near the 700 metres where the eventual winner, BOBCAT, was able to improve to his inside, Jockey J. Felix explained that at that point of the race his mount was inclined to lay out and for this reason BOBCAT was able to take a run to his inside. Jockey Felix was advised that in similar circumstances he should make a greater effort to maintain his racing position and ride his mounts in a competitive manner at all times, and not leave room for query.
THE PRINCIPAL - A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be extremely dehydrated. Trainer M. McLellan informed stewards that, following the horse’s poor performance, it will now be spelled.
Race 6: – A.L.B. Distributors Open Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – MOUNTAIN VIEW 2nd – HORACIO 3rd – KAYAN 4th – OKAY SWIFT
BAR ATTACK – Bumped another runner at the start.
KAYAN – Bumped at the start.
BOOM SHA LA – Slow to begin.
MOUNTAIN VIEW – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
HOLEY GADOLEY – Raced wide without cover throughout.
When questioned regarding his riding of HORACIO, Jockey G. Kliese stated that after being held up in the early part of the home straight he attempted to improve between HOLEY GADOLEY (Jockey J. Felix) and BAR ATTACK (Jockey B. Swaffer). However, when BAR ATTACK shifted in, HORACIO was disappointed for the run, then was momentarily held up and had to be shifted to the outside of BAR ATTACK to obtain clear running, where the gelding ran on well.
Race 7: - Allrig Lifting & Engineering Supplies BenchMark 65 Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – SHE BEE STINGIN’ 2nd – ANZUS 3rd – BETTER CALL SAUL 4th – STARLIGHT BELLE
NAIL ‘EM – The gelding was a late scratching, at 7.53 a.m., when no rider was available.
SEQUONIS - Began awkwardly. Approaching the 900 metres when racing keenly,improved to the inside of COWARDOFTHECOUNTY (Jockey J. Long), shifted in and crowded BETTER CALL SAUL (Jockey P. Cullen).
CROTCHET – Slow to begin.
BETTER CALL SAUL – Began awkwardly and then shortly after was crowded for room.
SHE BEE STINGIN’ – Slow to begin. On returning to scale Jockey D. Simmons reported that passing the 200 metres his saddle shifted backwards.
Rounding the turn near the 900 metres MORE THAN WILLING (G. Kliese) shifted in marginally and carried TIRYNS (Jockey F. Edwards) in towards SHE BEE STINGIN’ (Jockey D. Simmons), which had to be steadied.
STARLIGHT BELLE – Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight, and then for some distance approaching the 100 metres ran up onto the heels of another runner.
NUDGEE – Raced wide without cover throughout.
When questioned regarding his riding of MORE THAN WILLING, Jockey G. Kliese explained that he was never able to obtain clear running in the home straight and went to the finish without being tested.
