Race 1: Capricornia Yearling Sale Sunday 10 April BenchMark 65 Handicap - 1000 metres
1st – SUSSEX STREET 2nd – LOKUM 3rd – CRAIGLEA ZIP 4th – TRY ME DOL

INSIDE PAGE – After arriving behind the barriers the mare was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon at the request of its rider, Apprentice C. Jokic. Acting on the veterinary advice stewards ordered the withdrawal of the mare at 1.46 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on INSIDE PAGE be refunded and that the following deductions apply:

7¢ in the dollar for the win for the winner, SUSSEX STREET
7¢ in the dollar for the place for the winner, SUSSEX STREET
7¢ in the dollar for the place for 2nd, LOKUM

Trainer Mrs J. Williams, representing trainer Mrs J. Ryan, was told that she must provide a veterinary clearance prior to the mare being permitted to race again.

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, connections of LOKUM, which finished 2nd, viewed the official patrol videos to determine whether to lodge an objection against SUSSEX STREET (Jockey S. Wilson) being declared the winner, on the grounds related to the number of times its rider had used his whip prior to the 100 metres. Having done so, connections elected not to lodge a protest, and correct weight was declared on the judge’s placings.

DAZZLUNA – Knuckled at the start.

CRAIGLEA ZIP – Raced 4 wide without cover throughout.

HOUSE OF HINGIS – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

LOKUM – Raced keenly in the early stages.

Race 2: Davis Family Group Maiden Handicap - 1000 Metres
1st – RAINING DOLLARS 2nd - PURE FETISH 3rd – ONE FOR THE MONEY 4th – DUNNYS STAR

DYNA CI – Knuckled at the start. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

RAINING DOLLARS – Crowded for room at the start. In the early part of the home straight had difficulty obtaining clear running.

BIG EGOTIST – Crowded for room at the start.

PURE FETISH – Began awkwardly, shifted in abruptly and made heavy contact with another runner.

HITCH A PONY – A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which failed to stretch out and was uncompetitive, did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr G. Hughes was told that prior to racing again the gelding must perform competitively in a trial.

MONASHEE LASS – Inside the final 50 metres was held up and went to the finish without being fully tested.

Race 3: Dillon Architects QTIS 2-Y-O Maiden Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – CRAIGLEA ODYSSEY 2nd – LOVE RED 3rd – HIDEN IN HEAVEN 4th – SHORT TERM

GOLDEN DAWN – On returning to scale Apprentice M. Haley reported that after being crowded at the start his mount was reluctant to stretch out in the early stages.

CRAIGLEA QUEUES – Was bumped at the start.

WILD AZ WILL – After being slow to begin was crowded for room shortly after.

COOL ROSE – Shifted out at the start and bumped another runner. Raced greenly throughout the early and middle stages.

LOVE RED – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

HIDDEN IN HEAVEN – Shortly after straightening for home attempted a narrow run and was disappointed, then had to be steadied and shifted back to the inside to obtain clear running.

Race 4: Opteon Property Group North Qld QTIS 3-Y-O Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – WICKED CRIME 2nd – STAR FURY 3rd – AMBER’S GIRL 4th –I CRAIGLEA JABIRU

When questioned regarding the acceptance and subsequent scratching of CRAIGLEA DEKEN, stable representative Mr S. Johnston explained that it was the intention to start the gelding in the aforesaid race, however en route to the course he realised that, following its most recent start, at Caloundra on Sunday 24th March, it had jarred up and after he had treated the gelding with 8 ml of Flunixin, the trainer elected to scratch the gelding and leave it at Rockhampton. The explanation was accepted.

STAR FURY – Began awkwardly with its head up.

Approaching the first turn, near the 900 metres, CRAIGLEA JABIRU (Apprentice C. Jokic), which was inclined to race keenly with its head up, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of STAR FURY (Apprentice S. Fawke), which shifted in when not quite clear. Apprentice Fawke was reprimanded.

Race 5: The Rack’nstack Warehouse Class 1 Handicap - 1200 metres
1st – CONCLUDER 2nd – GINA BALLERINA 3rd CORNISH TALES – 4th WORK OF WORDS

HIDDEN ABILITY – Reluctant to leave the enclosure, then refused to load into the barriers. Stewards ordered the late withdrawal of the gelding at 4.16 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that that all bets made on HIDDEN ABILITY be refunded and that the following deductions apply:

11¢ in the dollar for the win for the winner, CONCLUDER
8¢ in the dollar for the place for the winner, CONCLUDER
11¢ in the dollar for the place for 2nd, GINA BALLERINA
12¢ in the dollar for the place for 3rd, CORNISH TALES

Trainer W. Kenning was told that HIDDEN ABILITY must trial to the satisfaction of the stewards before being permitted to race again.

The declaration of correct weight was delayed whilst stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey D. Simmons, the rider of CORNISH TALES which finished 3rd, against GINA BALLERINA (Apprentice C. Jokic) being declared 2nd, alleging interference near the 1000 metres. After taking evidence from the parties concerned, viewing the official patrol videos and acting on their own observations, stewards found that near the 1000 metres CORNISH TALES had to be steadied to avoid the heels of GINA BALLERINA which shifted in when not quite clear, however bearing in mind the minor nature of the interference, the proximity of the incident to the winning post and the manner in which both horses ran to the finish, Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that had the interference not occurred CORNISH TALES would have finished ahead of GINA BALLERINA. Accordingly the protest was dismissed and the placings ordered to stand. At a subsequent inquiry Apprentice Jokic was reprimanded under AR137(a).

SAGA’S PRINCESS – Slow to begin, then had to be checked when crowded shortly after the start.

EEJAH STYLE – Began awkwardly.

RULISTIC – Rounding the turn near the 900 metres was inclined to race ungenerously.

SUPER KANGAROO – Making the turn near the 900 metres improved onto heels and had to be steadied.

REMOS – Raced 3 wide throughout.

HARRY MET SANDY – Rounding the turn near the 800 metres improved onto heels and had to be steadied.

Race 6: DCM Electrical BenchMark 65 Handicap – 1609 metres
1st – NUDGEE 2nd – PRESS PLAY 3rd – SLEW LEFT 4th – JORDAN

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey W D’Avila, the rider of PRESS PLAY which finished second, to view the official patrol videos with a view to lodging an objection against NUDGEE (Apprentice G. Mitchell) being declared the winner. Having done so, Jockey D’Avila elected not to lodge a protest and correct weight was declared.

CORONATION JOURNEY – Was slow to begin. Momentarily hampered shortly after straightening for home.

SLEW LEFT – Shortly after the start was bumped by another runner. In the home straight was inclined to lay in.

JORDAN – Got its head up when being restrained in the early stages.

PRESS PLAY – Soon after the start was bumped by another runner. Shifted out under pressure in the straight. Jockey W. D’Avila was fined $200 under A.R. 137A for using the whip on his mount on 8 occasions prior to the 100 metres, 3 more than is permitted under the rule.

IMBOSTERIA – On returning to scale Jockey A. Coome reported that his mount felt awkward in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding was showing a poor recovery rate.

Rounding the home turn NUDGEE (Apprentice G. Mitchell), which was racing keenly, improved onto the heels of IMBOSTERIA (Jockey A. Coome), shifted out abruptly and crowded SLEW LEFT (Jockey M. Morris), which had to be checked. In the incident PRESS PLAY (Jockey W. D’Avila) was also hampered. Apprentice Mitchell was told that in similar circumstances rather than shift out, she would be expected to make a greater effort to restrain her mount than she did on this occasion.

JORDAN – In the home straight was carried wider by another runner.
