Race 1: Lavaracks Restaurant @ Townsville RSL Maiden Handicap - 1200 metres

1st – LIEN 2nd – OUR UNIVERSAL STAR 3rd – SOME SUNNYDAY 4th – RENEGADE RUBY

LIEN - Prior to the race the gelding, which had not raced since 8th August 2015, was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field. Improved onto heels leaving the 500 metres and had to be steadied.

SOME SUNNYDAY – Slow to begin.

JUSTIFICATION – Slow to begin. Was bumped heavily at the start.

MANSALE – Slow to begin.

NINECARATGOLD – Began awkwardly, shifted out, bumped heavily with another runner and lost ground.



OUR UNIVERSAL STAR – Began awkwardly.



THUNDER DRUM – Over-raced in the early stages.



Jockey F. Edwards who initially pleaded not guilty, was granted permission to amend his plea to one of guilty, to a charge of careless riding under A.R.137(a) in that near the 1000 metres he permitted LIEN to shift in when insufficiently clear of JUSTIFICATION (Apprentice C. Bayliss), which clipped the heels of that runner, blundered, lost ground and tightened the running of RENEGADE RUBY (Jockey D. Simmons) which was racing to its inside. In the incident THUNDER DRUM (Jockey B. Thomson), which was following, was also inconvenienced. Jockey Edwards was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 8 days, to commence at midnight tonight up to and including midnight on 20th November 2016. Stewards took into account his good recent record and his amended plea of guilt.



Jockey S. Wiseman sustained an injured left shoulder whilst mounting OUR UNIVERSAL STAR. She was examined by the Ambulance Officers and cleared to fulfil her remaining engagements.



Race 2: Quinn’s Post QTIS 3-Y-O Maiden Handicap – 1000 metres

1st – BOILING 2nd – OUTBACK TYCOON 3rd – LONESOME BLUES 4th – BIT BY BIT



LIBERO – Began very awkwardly and lost ground. On returning to scale Jockey D. Simmons reported that the filly raced very ungenerously throughout the event and proved difficult to ride. Trainer S Potiris said that it was now his intention to spell the filly. Nevertheless, he was advised that LIBERO must trial to the satisfaction of the stewards before being permitted to race again.



OUTBACK TYCOON – Shifted out at the start and bumped another runner.



BIT BY BIT – Bumped at the start.



ROTHE AND ROLL – A short distance after the start shifted in and made contact with another runner.



TYPHOON PARADISE – Bumped by another runner shortly after the start.



GREEK ROSE – Raced wide throughout.



SUPER ANNIE – Raced wide throughout.



Following the running of this race the track rating was upgraded to GOOD 3 retrospectively.





Race 3: Garrisons @ Townsville RSL QTIS 2-Y-O Maiden Handicap – 1000 metres

1st – CRAIGLEA MAXX 2nd – OUR ATOM 3rd - GENERAL CHEVAL 4th - ELITE JET



MISS JETTISON – Was fractious in the barriers, reared as the start was effected and dislodged its rider, Jockey B. Thomson. Trainer B. Baker was advised that he must obtain a further barrier certificate before the filly will be permitted to race again. Jockey B. Thomson, after injuring her left foot was examined by the Ambulance Officers and cleared to fulfil her remaining engagements.



ELITE JET – Bumped shortly after the start.



EVENING BELL – Bumped shortly after the start. Checked near 900m and lost ground.



A short distance after the start CRAIGLEA MAXX (Jockey W. D’Avila) shifted in and away from CRAIGLEA MONETA (Jockey P. Cullen), making heavy contact with EVENING BELL (Jockey F. Edwards), resulting in both horses, which were racing greenly, becoming unbalanced and EVENING BELL being checked and racing further back than anticipated.

Shortly afterwards CRAIGLEA MONETA shifted in and away from CRAIGLEA AIRLIE (Jockey S. Wilson. As stewards could not deem any one rider to be responsible for the incident, no further action was taken.



GENERAL CHEVAL – Raced wide throughout.



INSTANT LUTE – Raced wide throughout.



Apprentice C. Bayliss pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that near the 400 metres when urging his mount GENERAL CHEVAL along, he permitted that horse to shift in, making contact with CRAIGLEA AIRLIE (Jockey S. Wilson), which was taken in and made heavy contact with CRAIGLEA MONETA (Jockey P. Cullen), which became severely unbalanced and had to be checked and lose ground. Apprentice Bayliss was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 8 days, to commence at midnight on 17th November 2016, up to and including midnight on 25th November 2016.





Race 4: Jackson Semler Class 3 Plate - 1609 metres

1st – CLEVFILLY 2nd – RAPIDSET 3r d – MAINSHAFT 4th – BEYOND





Jockey P. Cullen pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that near the 400 metres he permitted DEVASTATING RHYTHM to shift in when being urged forward and when not sufficiently clear of ALL RIGGED UP (Jockey F. Edwards), which had to be checked and lost its rightful running. Jockey Cullen was suspended from riding in races for a period to cover 8 days, to commence at midnight on 12th November 2016, up to and including midnight on 20th November 2016. Stewards took into account Jockey Cullen’s good record and his guilty plea.



HOTEL SPLENDIDO – Slow to begin. Approaching the 700 metres had to be steadied from heels.



GLAMORGAN BABE – Slow to begin. Leaving the 700 metres shifted out to improve and shifted wider on the track.



DEVASTATING RHYTHM – Raced wide in the early stages.



CLEVFILLY – Near the 400 metres improved onto heels and had to be restrained.



On returning to scale Jockey D.Simmons reqired medical care and was relieved from his engagements. Jockey Simmons was advised that he must furnish a medical clearance prior to riding again.





Race 5: Townsville RSL BenchMark 60 Handicap – 1000 metres

1st – TIERES ROCK 2nd – GRAVETTIAN 3rd – JAGONAL 4th – MORE NORTHERLY



COUNTESS MIA – Due to Jockey D. Simmons becoming indisposed, and no other rider being available, stewards ordered the late withdrawal of COUNTESS MIA at 3.40 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on the mare be refunded and that the following deductions apply:



6¢ in the dollar for the win for the winner, TIERES ROCK

8¢ in the dollar for the place for the winner, TIERES ROCK

7¢ in the dollar for the place for 2nd, GRAVETTIAN

6¢ in the dollar for the place for 3rd, JAGONAL



GRAVETTIAN – Began awkwardly and was buffeted soon afterwards.



ALEXANDER PARADE – Shortly after the start was buffeted between runners.



DUNNYS STAR – Raced wide throughout.



MORE NORTHERLY – Raced wide throughout.



I WANNA BREAK FREE – Raced in restricted room for some distance approaching the 200 metres.



JAGONAL - Had a tendency to lay in under pressure in the home straight.





Race 6: CUBIC BenchMark65 Handicap - 1300 metres

1st – BRAVE BOW 2nd – RISE TO THE TOP 3rd – CARLINO’S WAY 4th - SHOT OF COURAGE



CARLINO’S WAY – Jockey S. Wilson replaced Jockey D. Simmons, who was indisposed.



BRAVE BOW – Began awkwardly.



ULTRA RED – Leaving the 400 metres improved onto heels and had to be steadied.



Jockey G. KIiese returned to scale in excess of a half kilo over his allotted weight and was fined $100 under A.R.145.
