SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS
 
Mackay Turf Club Thursday 17th November 2016:
 
Race 2: McDonald Murphy Machinery Maiden Plate – 1300 metres:
 
Following the performance of POR UNA CABEZA, Trainer C. Marsh advised stewards that subsequent to a further veterinary examination no abnormalities had been detected, and the gelding has since pleased her in its trackwork.
 
Race 6: Daily Mercury Class 3 Plate – 1300 metres:
 
Trainer C. Marsh advised stewards that, following the disappointing performance of TURKEY BEACH and after further examinations, no abnormalities had been detected and the gelding had since pleased her in its trackwork. Ms Marsh added that it was the gelding’s second run from a short spell and in her opinion it would derive benefit from the outing. She said also that the gelding had previously raced below expectations when having its second run back from a spell.
 
Charters Towers Saturday 15th October 2016
 
Jockey D. Sparks pleaded guilty to a charge under A.R. 137(b) in that as the rider of DON’T TELL PETE, which competed in Race 4 on the program, and finished 2nd, beaten a nose, that he failed to ride his mount out, making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post. Whilst stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that his actions had any effect on the judge’s placings. In considering penalty stewards took into account that this was the feature race of the meeting and subsequently Jockey Sparks was fined $500.
 
GENERAL:
 
Trainer C. Marsh pleaded guilty to a charge under L.R. 43, in that she engaged a person to perform duties on race day who was not the holder of an appropriate licence. Ms Marsh was fined $200.

Late Riding Changes
 
As Apprentice Z. White failed to arrive on course due to transportation difficulties substitutions were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
 
Race 1: TTC Xmas Race Day Saturday 17 December QTIS 2-Y-O Maiden Handicap - 1200 metres
1st –  CRAIGLEA AIRLIE  2nd  –  SPECIAL STYLE  3rd  –  CRAIGLEA MONETA   4th  - ELITE JET

STUDMAN – Bounded in the air as the start was effected and lost ground.
 
SHORT CIRCUIT -  Began awkwardly, then shortly after the start was tightened for room and lost ground.
 
SPECIAL STYLE – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
CRAIGLEA MONETA – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
 
EVENING BELL – Near the 400 metres had to be momentarily steadied when racing in restricted room to the inside of OUR ATOM, which shifted in.
 
OUR ATOM – Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority of the event. When asked to explain the performance of the horse, Jockey D. Simmons stated that after beginning well the colt travelled well in the early stages, however once placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding and was most disappointing.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer F. Wieland advised stewards that the gelding will now be spelled and will undergo a gelding operation.
 
Race 2: SKY Racing Maiden Handicap – 1000 metres
1st –  COUNTESS MIA  2nd  -  WATTO’S JET  3rd  –  LITTLE BIT TRASHY  4th  –  NOVA CHINA
 
NOVA CHINA – Began awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with A STREAK OF BLING (Jockey G. Kliese). In the incident NOVA CHINA (Apprentice R. Payne) became unbalanced and again shifted in and away from LITTLE RED ROCKET (Jockey S. Wilson), which shifted in slightly, resulting in GEORGIE PORGIE (Jockey G. Watson), A STREAK OF BLING and NOVA CHINA all being tightened for room, and A STREAK OF BLING and GEORGIE PORGIE losing ground.
 
A STREAK OF BLING – Raced greenly in the early stages.
 
WATTO’S JET – Near the 250 metres shifted in abruptly when struck with the whip and became unbalanced, then hung in under pressure for the remainder of the race.
 
EIGHTH KEEPER – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
SUNSHINY GIRL – Raced 4 wide without cover throughout.
 
LITTLE RED ROCKET – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
WILL HE TORQUE – Jockey S. Kaya pleaded guilty to a charge under A.R 137(b) in that he failed to ride his mount out to the finish of the race. Jockey Kaya was fined $200.
 
Race 3: A E Smith Class 6 Plate – 1400 metres   
1st –  SUNSET IN NEW YORK  2nd –  BRAVE BOW  3rd  -  PERCULES  4th  -  RISE TO THE TOP/WRITTEN INTENT
 
HILLCREST (Apprentice R. Payne), PERCULES (Jockey N. Day) and CRACOW (Jockey J. Felix) were all slow to begin.
 
BRAVE BOW – Leaving the 1200 metres when being steadied commenced to over-race.
 
HILLCREST – Leaving the 1000 metres commenced to race ungenerously and hung out from that point onwards. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had shifted its near hind plate, piercing its hoof with a nail. Trainer C. Marsh was advised that she must furnish a veterinary clearance and that the gelding must trial satisfactorily prior to being permitted to race again.
 
RISE TO THE TOP - A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding at the request of its rider did not reveal any abnormality.
 
Race 4:  MACCAS  Synthetic Grasses QTIS 3-Y-O Handicap -  1200 metres
1st –  CRAIGLEA GHETTO  2nd  –  SIMPLY MARVELLOUS 3r d –  OUTBACK TYCOON  4th  –  BOILING
 
BOILING – Prior to the race trainer T. Haydon informed stewards that, if possible, the filly will be ridden in a mid to back position due to its wide barrier draw.  Raced accordingly.
 
GRACIOUS FURI – Was kicked by another runner behind the barriers, examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field.
 
MY GIRL’S A DRAGON – Began awkwardly.
 
OUTBACK TYCOON – Blundered on jumping.
 
CRAIGLEA GHETTO – Raced  wide for the majority of the event.
 
GRACIOUS FURI – Near the 500 metres shifted out and bumped another runner.
 
Race 5:  Northern Consulting Engineeers Ratings Band 0-60 Handicap - 1200 metres
1st –  GAINSFORD  2nd –  ONE FOR THE TON  3rd  –  MIM’S POET  4th –  RACING HARADA  
 
JUMBO RUMBO – The start was delayed with the gelding lunged at the front barrier gate when loaded. The horse was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field. Raced wide. Leaving the 800 metres improved onto heels, and when steadied shifted wider.
 
DECISIVE ACTION – Began very awkwardly, shifted out and made heavy contact with ONE FOR THE TON (Jockey G. Watson), which was taken out onto the hindquarters of MIM’S POET. ONE FOR THE TON lost ground in the incident.
 
OUR RECIPE - Bounded in the air as the start was effected. Shortly after the start was tightened for room.
 
GAINSFORD – Shortly after the start was tightened for room.
 
CHOMARU – Shortly after the start shifted in, crowding runners to its inside.  Raced wide without cover.
 
ONE FOR THE TON – For a short distance leaving the 400 metres was held up and unable to improve.
 
RACING HARADA - Was disappointed for a doubtful run leaving the 300 metres.
 
Race 6: MAKK Electrical Open Handicap -  1200 metres
1st –  ONE BAR NONE  2nd  –  RIVARIVA  3rd  –  HORACIO  4th  -  BLAME GAME
 
WISHFUL – Blundered badly on jumping, dislodging rider Apprentice E. Cass. Apprentice Cass was examined by the Ambulance Officers and cleared of any injury and was able to fulfil her engagement in Race 7. Nevertheless he was advised that she should seek medical attention as soon as possible following that engagement.  
 
STRICTLY MAGIC – Initially was slow to begin, then was further inconvenienced by the riderless horse shortly after the start.
 
RIVARIVA – Near the 800 metres Jockey N. Day restrained his mount to allow more room for the riderless horse, which was racing between runners, then commenced to over-race for a short distance.
 
ONE BAR NONE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had a laceration to its near hind leg.
 
Race 7: STAR 1063 BenchMark 65 Handicap - 1000 metres
1st –  VO TREASURE  2nd  –  WICKED CRIME  3rd  –  PRIME SHADOW  4th  -  PARTY TILL DAWN
 
JAGONAL – Prior to the race trainer T. Haydon informed stewards that from its wide barrier the gelding will be ridden in a mid to rearward position, if possible. The horse was ridden accordingly, but over-raced in the early and middle stages
 
TOP DECISION – Began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with another runner.
 
ROAD FOX – Bumped by another runner on jumping. A short distance later ROAD FOX and WICKED CRIME raced tight and buffeted for a short distance.
 
VO TREASURE – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground.
 
SHEER PERSISTENCE – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
PRIME SHADOW – Approaching the 850 metres attempted to jump a discoloured section of the track.
 
Jockey J. Long pleaded guilty to charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that as the rider of SHEER PERSISTENCE, at approximately the 450 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of ROAD FOX (Apprentice R. Payne), which had to be restrained and relinquish her position.  In the incident JAGONAL, which was following, was also inconvenienced.  Jockey Long was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 8 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 26th November, up to and including Sunday 4th December.
 
SHEER PERSUASION – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
LOVER OF LIFE – Raced 4 wide without cover throughout. Had to be momentarily steadied near the 100 metres to avoid the heels of SHEER PERSISTENCE, which shifted out under pressure.
 
WICKED CRIME – Raced wide throughout.
 
PARTY TILL DAWN – Held up for clear running in the early part of the straight.
