ROCKET ON GINGER – Hung out for the majority of the race, shifted wider in the home straight and was unable to be tested over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality. Trainer J. Manzelmann was advised that the filly must trial to the satisfaction of stewards pror to being permitted to race again.

RACE 3:  The Rack'n'Stack Warehouse Open Handicap - 1000 metres
1st  -  SHEKOU  2nd  -  RAPT IN RUMBA  3rd  -  NATURAL DANCER  4th  -  LOVER OF LIFE

The start of the race was rescheduled for 2.25 p.m.

Prior to the declaration of correct weight stewards viewed the films and were satisfied the rider of LOVER OF LIFE (G Watson) had remained in contact with the horse’s gear until the finish line. Acting under the provisions of AR146 Stewards were satisfied with the judges semaphored numbers and Correct Weight was declared.

LIGHTENUFF – The start was delayed when the gelding was presented in the enclosure with other than its approved gear, which had to be rectified. Trainer’s representative Ms Coulter was advised a fine $100 would be imposed. She was further advised that a fine of $100 will be imposed as they were unable to present the horse’s ID card. Slow to begin.

LOVER OF LIFE – Began awkwardly. Jockey D. Hayse was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that he allowed SHEKOU to shift in under hard riding leaving the 50 metres and continued to ride his mount along placing LOVER OF LIFE (G Watson) in restricted racing room and failing to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount shifting in further at that point resulting in LOVER OF LIFE clipping that runners heels and blundering dislodging rider G Watson. Stewards acknowledged that NATURAL DANCER (N Summers) which was racing to the inside of both LOVER OF LIFE and SHEKOU had shifted out marginally but were of the opinion this had no significant bearing on the incident. Jockey Hayse’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence at the expiration of his current suspension at midnight on 16th February 2017, up to and including midnight on 9th March 2017, a period of 3 calendar weeks.

SLADE AMIGOS – Raced wide without cover for the majority of the race. When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of the gelding Rider B Thomson advised stewards that in her opinion SLADE AMIGOS is better suited when able to lead and dictate terms and was unable to do that today and with the impost of 60.5kg and racing wide for the majority of the race was detrimental to the gelding’s performance today.

ALDREN – Had a tendency to lay in leaving the 200 metres and as a result became awkward on the heels of tiring runners before shifting wider to obtain clear running.

BLOUKRANS – Lost its off front plate in running.
