As a precaution, a number of measures were put in place by the Townsville Turf Club to accommodate any issues that may arise, and two veterinary surgeons were engaged for today’s meeting.The amended times were as follows:RACE 1 – 2.20 p.m.RACE 2 – 2.55 p.m.RACE 3 – 3.35 p.m.RACE 4 – 4.15 p.m.RACE 5 – 4.55 p.m.RACE 6 – 5.25 p.m.RACE 7 – 6.00 p.m.LATE RIDING CHANGES RACE 2: FROTH ‘N’ BUBBLES – When Jockey G. Watson was not riding at the meeting, due to injury, Jockey M. Haley was substituted as rider of the mareRACE 1: Mike Mills Photography Class 2 Handicap - 1200 metres1st - LILLY KAREENA 2nd - KAYLEE 3rd - DAMKY 4th - SEEKTOWINUNION JUKEBOX – Blundered at the start and lost ground. Checked near 400m. KAYLEE – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Over-raced in the middle stages.Apprentice E. Cass pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that leaving the 400m she permitted NADEEM ESPRIT to shift out making contact with UNION JUKEBOX, which became unbalanced and shortly after, when being urged along again shifted out when not sufficiently clear of UNION JUKEBOX (Jockey P. Cullen), which had to be checked. Apprentice Cass was suspended from riding in races for a period of 10 days, to commence at midnight 14th February 2017 up to and including midnight on 24th February 2017.RACE 2: www.townsvilleturfclub.com.au Maiden Handicap - 1000 metres1st - ALL BAR LILY 2nd - DECODED 3rd - WILL HE TORQUE 4th - MIGHTY MEERKAT LEIGHWAY - Apprentice A. Thomson was cautioned under A.R. 92 when she was able to claim only 2 kg of her 3 kg riding allowance. When assessing penalty stewards were mindful of today’s weather conditions.CHATEAU JOLIE – Apprentice E. Cass was cautioned under A.R. 92 when she was able to claim only 2 kg of her 3kg riding allowance. When assessing penalty stewards were mindful of today’s weather conditions.CHATEAU JOLIE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. LEIGHWAY – Began awkwardly.ALL BAR LILY – Raced 3 wide for the majority of the race. STORMY ZUMA – Raced wide for the majority of the race, was held up for clear running entering the home straight, then laid in under pressure, becoming awkward on heels until shifted wider on the track leaving the 200m. FROTH ‘N’ BUBBLES – Raced wide for the majority of the race. GRANDZONE ROCKET – Raced 5 wide with no cover for the majority of the event. WILL HE TORQUE – Checked when inconvenienced approaching the 200m. NEWMAN – The saddle on the gelding shifted back shortly after the start, placing Apprentice D. Evans in difficulty. The saddle shifted again on entering the home straight, when Apprentice Evans attempted to improve his position, and shifted in abruptly near the 200m, inconveniencing another runner. Whilst stewards noted that the saddle had shifted back and placed its rider at a disadvantage, nevertheless Apprentice Evans was reprimanded and advised to show greater care for his fellow riders in similar circumstances. RACE 3: Join Townsville 100 Club BenchMark 70 Handicap - 1400 metres1st - WORTHY HERO 2nd - OKAY SWIFT 3rd - FOREST WAY 4th - WRITTEN INTENT OKAY SWIFT - When questioned regarding the performance, Apprentice E. Cass stated that it was her intention to ride the gelding in a forward position, however after beginning awkwardly and being pressured to go forward, OKAY SWIFT failed to respond to her riding and as a result raced further back in the field than anticipated, however found the line strongly over the concluding stages. Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by Apprentice Cass. SLADE AMIGOS – Raced 3 wide for the majority of the race. Inconvenienced near the 350m. FOREST WAY – Inconvenienced near the 350m. WRITTEN INTENT – Checked near the 350m. Jockey D. Sparks pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that whilst riding his mount along near the 350m he allowed HEARTFELT QUEST to shift out when insufficiently clear of SLADE AMIGOS, which was taken out onto the rightful running of WRITTEN INTENT, which had to be checked. FOREST WAY, which was racing to the outside of WRITTEN INTENT, was also hampered. Jockey Sparks was suspended from riding in races for a period of 10 days, to commence at midnight on 14th February 2017, up to and including midnight on 24th February 2017. RACE 4: UBET QTIS 3-Y-O Handicap - 1200 metres1st - RELNINO 2nd - MOLONGLE MAGIC 3rd - ST COVET LASS 4th - JOHANTEE TALK ABOUT A SAGA – Began awkwardly and shifted out, inconveniencing another runner. Shifted out near the 100m and made contact with another runner. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. KRACCA JACK GIRL – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. LOVE RED – Slow to begin. PRINCE OF MINE – Knuckled over at the start. When asked to explain the performance of the colt, rider L. Attard stated that it was the intention to ride the horse in a more forward position. However, after blundering at the start, raced further back than anticipated, which in his opinion was not suitable to the horse’s chances. He further added that the horse may benefit from the addition of a tongue-tie, of which connections were informed. REMI ROCKS – Hampered by another runner near the 100m. RACE 5: XXXX Gold BenchMark 60 Handicap - 1000 metres1st - REAL WARRIOR 2nd - SABA LASS 3rd - LITTLE RED CORVETE 4th - THE BEE’S KNEES SABA LASS – Began awkwardly, raced wide without cover for the majority of the race. Shifted in for a short distance leaving the 700m, placing runners to its inside in restricted room. Apprentice Q. Krogh was severely reprimanded and advised to show more care in similar circumstances. LITTLE RED CORVETE – Slow to begin. THE BEE’S KNEES – Slow to begin. CHEERING – Raced in restricted room near the 700m. TIERE’S ROCK – Slow to begin, raced in restricted room near the 700m. CRAIGLEA ODYSSEY - Raced in restricted room near the 700m. RACE 6: Quality Care at Mater Townsville Class 6 Plate - 1200 metres1st - FASTCAR 2nd - LADY SIOUX 3rd - CANNY AND THE JET 4th - CHINA TOWN Due to a clerical error, the starting time for this race was shown in the Race Book as 5.25 p.m. instead of 5.26 p.m. Public announcements were made accordingly. CANNY AND THE JET - The start was delayed when the gelding proved difficult to load. Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority of the race. THANKGODFORFRANC – Slow to begin. KENNYNOPAS – Blundered on jumping and then was tightened for room shortly after the start. CHINA TOWN - Began awkwardly, shifted out and inconvenienced another runner. RACE 7: Race to The Ville Resort-Casino BenchMark 55 Handicap - 1609 metres1st - FABULOUS CHILD 2nd - SAID WRITTEN 3rd - LA PRENSA 4th - CAPITANEAR OUR GIRL CHARLOTTE – Slow to begin. LA PRENSA – Raced wide in the early and middle stages. DIAMONDNET – Leaving the 800m shifted out and raced wide for the remainder of the race. CAPITANEAR – Shifted wider on the track to improve leaving the 900m and raced wide from that point on. FABULOUS CHILD – Apprentice Q. Krogh lost the use of his off side rein approaching the 200m until regaining it leaving the 200m. MYSTIC HARMONY – Disappointed for a narrow run between runners near the 300m steadied.
