GENERAL

From Mackay, 14.3.17 – Race 7 – BenchMark 55 H'cap – 1300m.

Trainer L. Cullen advised that CARLONO’S WAY lost its off fore and near fore plate in running.

Race 1: Visit Townsvilleturfclub.com.au QTIS 2yo H'cap - 1000m

MOLONGLE FIRE - Stewards questioned trainer B. Williams into the scratching of the horse. Mr Williams advised stewards that due to a minor eye infection the gelding was unable to take its place in today’s field. Stewards noted his explanation.

LOST CONNECTIONS – Hung out near the 900m, inconveniencing another runner. Again hung out rounding the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to both hind fetlocks.

WE’LL BEAT IT – Checked near the 900m when tightened for room by another runner, which shifted out.

MR SONADOR - Was inclined to hang out soon after straightening and did so until near the finish line, proving difficult to ride out. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.


Race 2: Happy 65th Birthday Jim Fogarty BenchMark 65 H'cap – 1400mm

BLUE AXIS – Slow to begin.

DAMKY – Raced wide for the majority of the race and without cover.

JUMBO RUMBO – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, particularly in the early stages, rider E. Cass explained it was its normal racing pattern to lead and was aware how far in front she was. However, after riding the horse forward from its wider barrier to gain a position closer to the rail, the gelding was reluctant come back under her and travelled strongly in front. She further noted the step up in distance today may also have contributed to the performance. Her explanation was noted.

Race 3: Great Mates, Cold Beer@TSV Turf Club Maiden H'cap – 1400m

GENERAL BEERS – A pre-race veterinary examination of the horse which competed at the Mackay races on Tuesday, 14 March revealed no abnormalities and was cleared to start. Slow to begin, then bumped by another runner and lost ground. Momentarily held up for clear running in the early part of the home straight.

FROTH ‘n’ BUBBLES – Began awkwardly. When questioned into the tactics adopted on the mare, rider P. Cullen stated that his instructions were to take a sit just off the pace if possible, however if it finds the front will race ungenerously, and as the mare found the lead under its own terms he was reluctant to restrain the horse, which was racing strongly. Trainer A. Molino confirmed the instructions and advised he would now concentrate on races over shorter distances. Their explanations were noted.

SPY CI – Began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with another runner. Raced 3 wide without cover.

RANGA ROCKET – Raced wide in the middle stages. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight, proving difficult to ride out.

GRANDZONE ROCKET – Lost its near fore plate in running.

Race 4: Mendi Construction Open H'cap – 1300m

HOT SAGA – Began very awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with another runner and lost ground. Improved onto heels and had to be restrained near the 350m.

BOBCAT – Bumped on the hind quarters by another runner on jumping away.

MAJOR MAJOR – Slow to begin.
SHEKOU – Began awkwardly and raced 3 wide without cover for the majority of the event.

GO BY RIO – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

FOREST WAY – When asked to explain the disappointing performance, rider B. Nothdurft stated the gelding travelled well in the early and middle stages however failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure in the home straight and his opinion was disappointing. Trainer M. Whitehouse stated that he was disappointed with the performance and he will monitor the horses progress in the following days and should anything comes to his attention that may have had a bearing on its performance he would advise the Stewards.

Race 5: Parry NQ Class 6 Plate - 1000m

The start was delayed slightly when SUSSEX STREET became fractious in the barriers. Examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

BELORUM – Slow to begin.

OH YEAH – Blundered on jumping away.

TUSCAN FALLS – Raced 3 wide throughout without cover.

Race 6: Michels Restaurant & Catering Class 1 H'cap – 1000m

HARCOURT STREET - Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer N. Seymour for F. Edwards being declared as the rider of the horse when F. Edwards was unable to fulfil the engagement. He was subsequently replaced by E. Cass.
Rider E. Cass pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a), in that she permitted her mount to shift in when being urged along when insufficiently clear of SHAHQA (G. Kliese), which had to be restrained and lost its rightful running. E. Cass’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 12 days, to commence at midnight, 25 March, up to and including midnight, 6 April.

FLICKA ROCKET – The start was delayed when the gelding proved difficult to load. Began awkwardly and made heavy contact with the inside barrier gate and lost ground.

SHAHQA – The start was further delayed when the gelding was fractious in the barriers. Subsequently examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. Restrained and lost momentum near the 900m. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

CATNAP – Slow to begin.

REGGIE ROCKET – Raced wide without cover for the majority of the race.

DANCETIME – Checked near the 750m.

I WANNA BREAK FREE – Severely checked near the 750m.

Stewards inquired into an incident near the 750m where I WANNNA BREAK FREE and DANCETIME had to be checked and lost their rightful running. Initial evidence was taken from B. Thomson (DANCETIME), B. Nothdurft (FRENCH AMOUR) and E. Cass (HARCOURT STREET) and adjourned the inquiry until a time and date to be fixed to allow rider S. Wilson (I WANNA BREAK FREE), who was transported to hospital, to be present at the adjourned inquiry.

Following this race, rider S. Wilson, rider of I WANNA BREAK FREE, was stood down by the ambulance officers after injuring his right ankle and was transported to the Townsville Hospital for further observation.

Race 7: Opteon Property Nth Qld Class 3 Plate – 1200m

KAYLEE – As S. Wilson was injured riding in Race 6 and was stood down he was replaced by D. Simmons as the rider of the horse. Fractious in the barriers and proved difficult to load. Trainer A. Molino was advised that a warning would be placed on the horse’s barrier manners.

UNION JUKEBOX – Bounded in the air at the start and lost ground.

LITTLE RED CORVETE – Slow to begin.

PURRFECT TYCOON – Slow to begin.

REAL WARRIOR – Began awkwardly and bumped at the start, losing ground.

OURBOYBYRON – Bumped at the start.

THURSTON – Raced wide in the early and middle stages of the race.

CHEERING – Raced 3 wide for the majority of the race.
