Public announcements were made accordingly.

Race 1:  Winter Racing Carnival 15th-29th July Maiden Handicap - 1300 metres

MORE THAN KALOOKAN - Began awkwardly. Checked near the 800 metres.

VALENTINE'S DAY - Raced 3 wide in the early stages of the event.  Rider Q. Krogh pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that approaching the 800 metres he permitted the gelding to shift in when insufficiently clear of STORMY ZUMA (App. E. Cass), which was taken in onto the rightful running of MORE THAN KALOOKAN (App. Z. White).  Apprentice Krogh's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence midnight 13th of May 2017 up to and including midnight the 21st May 2017.

TWO FOR THE ROAD - Was crowded for room shortly after the start. Momentarily steadied near the 450 metres when racing in restricted room.

MACCA'S HEART - Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early stages of the race, then raced 3 wide without cover from the 800 metres onwards. Jockey S. Wilson was reprimanded under A.R. 137A(5)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on the horse on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100 metres.

Race 3: J & D Thoroughbreds Class 3 Plate - 1000 metres

PRINCE STRIKE - Restrained off heels near the 700 metres when the pace slackened, then over-raced for a short distance thereafter.

RYLEE'S SAGA - Restrained near the 700 metres when the pace slackened, when racing in restricted room.

REMOS - Began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with the outside barrier partition. Raced 3 wide for the majority if the event.

I'LL TAKE THE JAG - Began awkwardly, raced 3 wide without cover for the majority of the race. Forced wider rounding the home turn by another runner.

Apprentice Q. Krogh pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that leaving the 200 metres he permitted I'LL TAKE THE JAG to shift in under pressure when not sufficiently clear of LILLY KAREENA (App. A. Thomson), which had to be checked to avoid the heels of that horse. Apprentice Krogh's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 10 days to commence at midnight on the 13th May 2017 up to and including midnight 23rd May 2017. Stewards ordered that the suspension run concurrently with a suspension incurred in an earlier race.

LILLY KAREENA - Rounding the home turn shifted out when Apprentice A. Thomson had difficulty with her reins, which became slippery following a shower of rain. As a result she forced another runner wider on the track. Checked from heels leaving the 200 metres.

Race 4: NQ Custom Services Class 6 Plate - 1609 metres

GLAMORGAN BABE - Slow to begin.

THURSTON - Over-raced for the majority of the event.

RICHIE ROCKET - Over-raced in the middle stages.

RANKED - Disappointed for a run leaving the 200 metres and had to be restrained before shifting wider to obtain clear running. When questioned in the presence of senior rider D. Simmons into her riding of the gelding, particularly near the 400 metres when she relinquished her position while racing to the inside of THURSTON (App. Q. Krogh), Apprentice E. Cass explained that she was mindful of the horse was having its first run for a new stable after a letup and she did not want to pressure the horse too early to allow RANKED to finish the race off. These instructions were confirmed by Trainer Mr A Bailey. After hearing submissions from the Stewards and senior rider D Simmons, and viewing of the official race film, she agreed she had erred at that point of the race. Whilst Stewards noted her explanation she was nonetheless advised not to leave herself open to question in similar circumstances.

Race 5: RSD Plumbing Open Handicap - 1200 metres

ROYAL PHYSICIAN - Slow to begin and improved forward in an attempt to lead, then over-race for some distance.

PERFECT KNOWLEDGE - Raced wide without cover for the majority of the race.

Race 6: Tribute to Arthur (Chip) Haggarty BenchMark 55 Handicap - 1400 metres

LITTLE RED CORVETTE – Began awkwardly causing Apprentice A Thomson to become unbalanced and almost being dislodged.

OUR LITTLE MIRACLE – Tightened for room on jumping. Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages throwing its head in the air.

BEYOND – Slow to begin.

CASHED UP BULLY – Checked at the 350 metres when tightened for room.

Stewards opened an inquiry into an incident near the 350 metres in which CASHED UP BULLY was buffeted between runners and having to be checked. On hearing evidence from Apprentice A Thomson (LITTLE RED CORVETTE), Jockey S Wilson (CASHED UP BULLY), Jockey D Simmons (SVAVARSSON) and Apprentice E Cass (HYDRIVE) it was established that approaching the 350 metres CARLINO’S WAY shifted out slightly making contact with SVAVARSSON which shifted out marginally causing LITTLE RED CORVETTE to become unbalanced and shit out making contact with CASHED UP BULLY, which was then taken out on to HYDRIVE resulting in CASHED UP BULLY being checked. In this incident HYDRIVE was restrained from the heels of BEYOND (Apprentice M McGillvray). After hearing all of the evidence, viewing of the race film and taking all mitigating circumstances into account felt no one rider could be held responsible and this was a racing incident.

JOHANTEE – When questioned into the improved performance trainer Ms G Bourke stated that while she was disappointed with the horses previous two performances she was of the opinion the filly had not run the distances on those occasions and had freshened the filly up and brought her back in distance where it was successful previously. She further indicated that it would now be her intention that the filly race at what she considers a more appropriate distance at this stage of it’s career. Stewards noted her explanation.

Race 7: Rock Paper Scissors Class 1 Handicap – 1200 metres

CORNISH TALES – Sow to begin.

SNAPPY LEGEND – Raced wide with no cover.

SAN VITTORIO – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

SEEK TO WIN – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

DECODED – Was checked near the 900 metres when tightened for room.

SHAHQA – Apprentice Q. Krogh pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 900 metres he permitted that gelding to shift in when not sufficiently clear of DECODED which had to be checked. Apprentice Krogh's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 13 days to commence at midnight on the 13th May 2017 up to and including midnight 26th May 2017. Stewards ordered that the suspension run concurrently with suspensions incurred in races one and three.
