QUEENSLAND RACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOWNSVILLE TURF CLUB – THURSDAY 27th JULY 2017 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – GOOD 4 RAIL – TRUE ENTIRE COURSE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – Mr P. Race 4 - KIRABO - Blinkers on, not a gear change. SHAHQA: Visor on: Visor on - a gear change from blinkers. ROCK SPUR, GRAND EMPEROR, FLYING ONE MORE, VEGAS FLYER, JERVOIS NIGHT. RACE 1: HYGAIN MICRSPEED Maiden Plate - 1200 metres SCATTERED SHOWERS - Jockey M. Haley replaced Jockey F. Edwards who was indisposed, as rider of the mare. LEIGHWAY - As Apprentice A.Thomson was late arriving on course due to transport difficulties, Apprentice Q. Krogh was substituted as rider of the mare. Raced wide for the majority of the race. NICE TO DREAM - Slow to begin. RATHDOWNEY AVENUE - Slow to begin. NEGRONI - Slow to begin. CENTRE RED - Slow to begin. Raced keenly throughout and had a tendency to lay in throughout the race. Raced wide for the majority of the event. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer J. Ryan was advised that a warning will be placed on the gelding's racing manners. MAGIC GLOW - Delayed the start when it proved difficult to load into the barriers. Raced wide for the majority of the race. Hung in when placed under pressure in the home straight. The stable representative Mr G. Pierce was advised that the gelding must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to being permitted to race again. STORMY ZUMA - Over-raced in the early stages. Held up and unable to improve appraoching the home turn and in the early part of the home straight. Raced wide for the majority of the race. RACE 2: - Escape Travel QTIS 2-Y-O Maiden Handicap - 1000 metres MOSSBERG - Slow to begin. MAHARG - Slow to begin. DREAMING OF PARIS - Raced ungenerously for the majority of the race and had a tendency to hang out. A post-race veterinary examination of the filly revealed an elevated heart rate. ANNMARIE - Raced wide for the majority of the race. PININFARINA - Raced wide for the majority of the event. AUROCHS - Raced wide for the majority of the event. RACE 3: Townsville Bulletin BenchMark 65 Handicap - 1609 metres STAR FURY - Began awkwardly. YOU CAN'T FIND ME - Raced wide in the early stages before improving forward to race outside the leader near the 1000m. OH YEAH - Over-raced in the middle stages and was steadied from heels near the 900m. UNDER THE WEATHER - Had to be restrained off heels near the 900m. GREAT INAGUA - Had to be steadied near the 1300m when racing in restricted room for a short distance. DOUBOS - When questioned about his riding of the mare, which usually takes up a forward position, Jockey A. Butler stated that his instructions were to ride the horse forward, however his mount began only fairly and after settling back in the field today he was unable to ride DOUBOS in accordance with its normal racing pattern and in his opinion never travelled comfortably in the the middle stages of the race. Trainer Mr T. Cook confirmed the instructions given to Jockey Butler. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare had blood in its mouth, having loosened an incisor tooth. RACE 4: SKY Racing Class 3 Plate - 1000 metres MOLONGLE HERO - Slow to begin. VEE EIGHT SIXTY - Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the event. MISS ROVANOVA - Began very awkwardly and lost ground. OUR RECIPE - Was fractious in the barriers prior to the start and when the start was effected bounded in the air and lost ground. COUNTESS MIA - Near the 600m became unbalanced and was steadied. BLAZING STEEL - Raced wide for the majority of the event. CRAIGLEA MISSION - Raced wide for the majority of the race. RACE 5: HYGAIN Tracktorque BenchMark 70 Handicap - 1300 metres FLYING ONE MORE - Began awkwardly and lost ground. BETTER CALL SAUL - Slow to begin. ROCK SPUR - Slow to begin. Jockey S. Wilson was reprimanded under A.R. 137A for using his whip on the gelding on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100 metres. STABLE SURPRIZE - Improved onto heels at the 1000m and was steadied. PERFECT KNOWLEDGE - Improved onto heels leaving the 500m and was steadied. HORACIO - Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight and went to the line without being fully tested. SHOT OF COURAGE - Raced wide for the majority of the race. RACE 6: HYGAIN Townsville Guineas QTIS 3-Y-O Handicap - 1609 metres CRAIGLEA GHETTO - Blundered on jumping. SIMPLY MARVELLOUS - Slow to begin. Raced wide from the 800m. WE JUST LOVE IT - Slow to begin. MISTA BUSY - Raced wide from the 800m. Over-raced in the middle stages. VEGAS FLYER - Raced wide for the majority of the race. ROYAL SCRIPT - Raced wide for the majority of the race. RACE 7: UBET Class 1 Handicap - 1400 metresAUTHADANE - Jumped outwards at the start and made contact with another runner. CRAIGLEA CEON - Was bumped by another runnerat the start, shifted out and inconvenienced another runner. TWICE THE STYLE - Shifted in at the start and made contact with another runner. JERVOIS NIGHT - Bumped by another runner shortly after the start and shfted in. GRAVETTIAN - Was bumped by other runners shortly after the start, became very awkward in its action and blundered badly. BANSHEE JET - Slow to begin. BONNIE BON BON - Slow to begin. SWEET SODA POP - Raced wide for the majority of the race. SEK LOSO - Raced wide for the majority of the race. SILVER BOWS - Raced wide for the majority of the race. CRAIGLEA DETROIT - Stewards questioned Apprentice Z. White, in the presence of senior jockey A. Butler, and trainer T. Bourke regarding the riding of that gelding in the home straight. Apprentice White stated that in her opinion the horse was very awkward in its action on straightening and in the home straight, and for this reason she was reluctant to place her mount under pressure. Mr Bourke was at a loss to explain the performance of the horse, however he was concerned when the gelding lost ground approaching the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination of CRAIGLEA DETROIT did not reveal any significant abnormalities. Mr Bourke further advised stewards that it was now his intention to spell the horse. Nevertheless, stewards advised him that the horse must trial satisfactorly and have a further veterinary examination following such trial and furnish the results to the stewards prior to the horse being permitted to race again.
