Race 1: Rapisarda Enterprises Maiden H’cap – 1300m
CRAIGLEA SIMMO – Began awkwardly and shifted in, making heavy contact with the inside barrier partition, causing its rider to become unbalanced and as a result lost ground.
AMERICAN GENERAL – Began awkwardly and commenced to over-race near the 1000m, having to be steadied from heels.
BENTO – Slow into stride.
DAESY DANORO – Slow into stride. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
LADY MIRABELLA – Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages, having to be restrained from heels near the 1000m.
PURE HAWK – On return to scale rider J. Stanley advised stewards that it was not his intention to lead, however after the gelding began well and found the lead easily it then travelled comfortably in the lead and as such was reluctant to restrain his mount.
Race 2: Swans Lagood Pastoral QTIS 3yo Maiden H’cap – 1000m
Correct weight was delayed when A. Butler, rider of POINT FORWARD, P. Cullen, rider of SIDTHEKID, J. Stanley, rider of GOLIATH and O. Cairns, trainer of POINT FORWARD, viewed the start of the race to see whether they were afforded a fair start.
Correct weight was further delayed when trainer O. Cairns requested that her runner, POINT FORWARD, be declared a non-runner. After hearing all the evidence from the riders, and the starter Mr T. Woodham, it was established all runners were afforded a fair start and correct weight was given on the Judge’s semaphored numbers.
CHASING FELIX – Slow to begin.
SIDTHEKID – Fractious in the barriers and lost ground.
POINT FORWARD – Appeared to take fright from a horse which was fractious in the barrier next to it and began very awkwardly, causing rider A. Butler to become unbalanced and lose ground.
MISPRINT – Reared high as the start was effected, making heavy contact with the upper structure of the barriers and took no competitive part in the race. A veterinary examination revealed bruising to its poll, and blood in its right nostril due to trauma. Trainer A. Bailey was advised he must provide a veterinary clearance and obtain a further barrier certificate before the gelding will be permitted to start again.
FRED’S GIFT – Slow to begin.
CITY SECRETS – Began awkwardly and blundered.
GOLIATH – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
SPAZELLA – Jumped outwards at the start, inconveniencing another runner. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
RED NUSKEE – Inconvenienced by another runner which shifted out at the start and lost ground. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
HIDDEN SPEED – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
MR SONADOR – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
Race 3: Tropical Containers Benchmark 65 H’cap – 1609m
DONAVIA – Began awkwardly.
PERFECTLY ALIGNED – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
I’M NOT SURE – Raced wide in the early and middle stages of the race. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight, proving difficult to ride out over the concluding stages.
Race 4: Ede Events Class 6 Plate – 1200m
WHILE WE CAN – Connections advised prior to the start of the race that the gelding had had a knee operation since its previous start. A pre-race veterinary examination of the gelding cleared it to start. Slow to begin.
CRUISE POWER – Restrained and lost its momentum having to alter course when tightened for room by another runner which shifted in near the 150m.
VAUNTING – Slow to begin.
CRAIGLEA ODYSSEY – Began awkwardly and blundered at the start.
SPACE TIME – Rider W. D’Avila was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that he had permitted his mount to shift in under pressure when not sufficiently clear of CRUISE POWER (N. Day), which had to relinquish its position and alter course to the outside of that runner. W. D’Avila’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days, to commence at midnight, 26 April and to expire at midnight, 4 May. In considering penalty, Stewards took into account the degree of interference and deemed the incident in the low range.
Race 5: Canadian Club Class 3 Plate – 1400m
KANUI – Connections advised that it would be the intention to ride the horse in a more forward position circumstances permitting. Began awkwardly. Raced in a forward position in the early stages, however was unable to improve forward due to runners weakening forward of him in the middle stages.
COUSIN MUSCLES – Shifted out at the start, tightening runners to its outside.
SAN AMARO – Shifted in at the start, tightening runners to its inside. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
DANZ THE MAN – Tightened for room at the start.
CRAIGLEA CEON – Tightened for room at the start. Raced in a 3 wide position without cover for the majority of the race.
ZAP – Tightened for room at the start.
DIAMOND RACER – Raced 4 wide without cover for the majority of the race.
OUR LITTLE MIRACLE – Connections were advised that its nomination would be refused at TAB meetings until its form improved by way of country meetings following its disappointing performance. Trainer Ms L. McCormack advised Stewards i9t would now be her intention to retire the mare form racing.
Race 6: Red Rooster Fairfield Waters Open H’cap – 1000m
EASY WEEKEND – Proved difficult to load. Slow to begin.
RIVARIVA – Slow to begin. Raced in restricted room near the 900m for a short distance. Checked near the 750m when tightened for room.
PLATINUM TYCOON – Shifted in slightly near the 900m, placing runners inside in restricted room for a short distance. Was tightened for room near the 750m and shifted in again tightening runners to its inside. Rider A. Thomson was reprimanded for the incident near the 900m. Ms Thomson was fined the sum of $200.00 in that she returned to scale in excess of 1/2kg of her declared weight.
ONE BAR NONE – Shifted in near the 750m when not sufficiently clear of PLATINUM TYCOON, which was taken inwards on to MAN AROUND TOWN (S. Wiseman), which in turn was taken inwards onto RIVARIVA, causing both runners to be checked. Jockey B. Thomson, rider of ONE BAR NONE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a), and her licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days, to commence at midnight, 28 April, up to and including midnight, 5 May. In considering penalty, Stewards whilst noting the interference, took into consideration Ms Thomson’s exemplary record under this rule.
LOVER OF LIFE – Laid in near the 650m and had to be steadied.
ROYAL PHYSICIAN – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
MAN AROUND TOWN – Raced in restricted room near the 900m for a short distance. Checked near the 750m and lost its position when tightened for room. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have a laceration to its near foreleg.
Race 7: Carlton Mid Benchmark 5 H’cap – 1000m
LOVE ME RUBY – Slow to begin.
RAINING DOLLARS – Slow to begin. Bumped by another runner near the 650. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
WE’LL BEAT IT – Shifted in near the 650m, bumping another runner.
LIKER – Slow to begin. Unable to obtain clear running in the home straight and went to the finish line without being fully tested.
CRAIGLEA CETINA – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
LITTLE STRYKER – Raced 4 wide without cover for the majority of the race.
AS YAWOOD – When questioned as to the performance of the gelding today, rider W. D’Avila stated that the gelding is now looking for further ground than that of today’s event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a burst abscess in it near hind foot.
