Woodham SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT From Hughenden 19 May 2018 Stewards concluded an inquiry today into the reasons why jockey D. Edmonds failed to arrive on course by Race 2 the Hughenden Tyre Centre Class B Handicap 800m to fulfil his riding engagement on TOP DECISION, resulting in that horse having to be scratched when no other rider was available. Stewards fined D. Edmonds the sum of $300. Race 1: FORKLIFT IT BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1200M GOOD CATCH – Slow into stride. When questioned regarding the horse’s seemingly disappointing performance, rider A. Thomson stated that today’s track conditions may not have suited the gelding’s racing pattern and whilst in her opinion the horse was a little disappointing, she felt that it would be better suited to a longer distance than that of today’s event. Trainer Mr A. Cameron agreed with Ms Thomson’s assessment in that the gelding was dropping back in distance and was unable to finish the race off in its usual fashion. Their explanations were noted. Following the running of this race F. Edwards became indisposed and was replaced in Race 7 by J. Felix as the rider of SEATTLE GAL. Race 2: COLLIER’S INTERNATIONAL BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP – 1400M ROYAL STANDING – Had a tendency to lay out throughout the event. CASTA – Slow to begin. Had a tendency to lay out for the majority of the race. TEXT BOOK – When questioned regarding the horse’s seemingly disappointing performance, rider C. Whiteley stated he was at a loss to explain the horse’s performance today and felt it was very disappointing. Trainer Mr P. Fleming stated that he felt the mare was not suited by the tempo of today’s race and further that the horse was sampled pre-race, which in his opinion may have had an effect on its performance today. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality. GREAT PRETENDER – Slow to begin. ROYAL SUPREME – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the event. On return to scale rider W. D’Avila advised stewards that in his opinion the gelding will be better suited over further distances than that of today’s event. MEGA D’ORO – Hung out rounding the home turn and continued to do so, shifting wider on the track. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality. Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the horse’s racing manners. Race 3: UBET MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M Due to a misunderstanding, L. Dodds was originally declared as the rider of BEAU CHEVAL and was then replaced by K. Stone. BONNCHELON – Bumped heavily on jumping and lost ground. Laid in near the 100m, crowding runners to its inside. LONESOME BLUES – Shifted in near the 1000m despite the efforts of its rider, inconveniencing another runner. Raced wide in the early stages. Overraced in the middle stages. Improved on to heels near the 600m and was steadied. POINT FORWARD – Raced wide for the majority of the event. SI D’AMOUR – Began very awkwardly and shifted out, making heavy contact with the runner to its outside. Inconvenienced near the 1000m by another runner which shifted in. Rider J. Stanley advised stewards on returning to scale that in his opinion the gelding resented the cross-over nose band and raced ungenerously. Trainer Mr G. Dickson advised that he would experiment with a gear change for the horse’s next start. THE BARMAID – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide for the majority of the event. BEAU CHEVAL – Slow to begin. Race 4: KORDAMENTHA CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1000M Stewards accepted the explanation tendered for the late declaration of L. Dodds as the rider of PRESIDENTIAL JOY. The start of this race was delayed considerably when rider S. Wilson was in a distressed state and was transported to Townsville Base Hospital. A. Butler was subsequently permitted to replace jockey Wilson as the rider of CENTRE RED. Riding replacements in Races 5, 6 and 7 were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. CENTRE RED – Slow to begin. Inconvenienced by another runner which shifted out marginally near the 500m. SPRINGTHORPE – Slow to begin. Shifted out marginally near the 500m, inconveniencing another runner. MISC – Shifted out across heels soon after straightening. NIC’S TIME – Raced wide for the majority of the event. LITTLE STRYKER – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Momentarily held up for clear running passing the 300m. SPORTS TYCOON – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Race 5: EAST COAST STYLE COLLECTIVE QTIS 2YO CLASSIC PRELUDE H’CAP – 1200M DALON – Hung out when attempting an inside run near the 300m, proving difficult to ride. Continued to lay out under pressure for the remainder of the event and shifted out shortly after the winning post, tightening runners to its outside. Rider J. Felix was advised to show greater care in similar circumstances. DANCING DIVA – On return to scale rider B. Thomson advised that the filly got its tongue over the bit during the race, which had a detrimental effect on the horse’s finishing effort. Trainer R. Ludwig advised that he would experiment with a tongue tie prior to the horse’s next start. OUR ALICIA’S LANE – Laid out under pressure before being corrected near the 150m, and then continued to lay out for the remainder of the event. Tightened for room passing the winning post by another runner which shifted out. VALUATE – Checked leaving the 1000m when tightened by another runner which shifted in. Bumped on the hind quarters shortly after the winning post, becoming unbalanced. WICKED DANCER – Tightened for room passing the winning post by another runner which shifted out. HOT TOP – When questioned regarding the horse’s disappointing performance, trainer F. Wieland stated that he felt with the rail being out the horse got back out of its ground and due to its inexperience failed to run on. Mr Wieland undertook to advise stewards should anything come to light in ensuing days which may have had an effect on the performance. Rider A. Thomson was cautioned regarding her use of the whip on a horse out of contention. BANK TELLER – Raced wide for the majority of the event. BOLD SENSATION – Slow to begin. Laid in leaving the 1000m despite the efforts of its rider, tightening the running of another runner. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on straightening until leaving the 200m and then finished the race off strongly. EXCITING HEIGHTS – Began awkwardly. Race 6: HYGAIN RACETORQUE QTIS 3YO PLATE – 1300M GREY MISSILE – Improved on to heels near the 1000m and was steadied. TWO AMOR – Raced wide for the majority of the event. BARBADOS STORM – Slow to begin. STYLISH CRIMINAL – Slow to begin. ROSE CLIP – On return to scale rider K. Stone advised stewards that it was not his intention to lead today, however after beginning well and unable to obtain cover, the mare commenced to overrace and as a result raced in a forward position. HIDDEN GODDESS – Began awkwardly. Overraced in the early stages and threw its head in the air when being restrained. Race 7: FEED 2 GO BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1400M Stewards have adjourned to a time and date to be fixed an inquiry into the reason why JERRAZZ (A. Butler), KANUI (L. Tilley) and SIDTHEKID (C. Jokic) fell at the 1000m to allow the riders concerned to be present. As a result of the falls, riders A. Butler, L. Tilley and C. Jokic were transported to Townsville Base Hospital for observation. JERRAZZ – Fell near the 1000m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have sustained injuries to its forehead. BROKEN FINGER – Shifted in approaching the 100m, hampering another runner, before being corrected. DORDOGNE – Shifted in slightly near the 1000m, hampering another runner. KANUI – Began awkwardly, threw its head in the air and lost ground. Fell near the 1000m. Appeared to escape any apparent injury. HARJAKA – Shifted out slightly near the 100m and was steadied from the heels of another runner which shifted in slightly. SIDTHEKID – Fell near the 1000m. Appeared to escape any apparent injury. AS YAWOOD – Checked near the 1200m. Badly inconvenienced near the 1000m when avoiding a fallen horse. Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reason for the horse being checked near the 1000m.
