QUEENSLAND RACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOWNSVILLE, TUESDAY, 9th JULY 2019 WEATHER – OVERCAST TRACK RATING – SOFT 5 RAIL – 0.5M ENTIREPENETROMETER – 4.8 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – P. Cullen GENERALStewards accepted all explanations tendered by Trainers for late engagements of riders for today’s race meeting. Race 1: Townsville Turf Club QTIS 2yo H’cap – 1200m MT PETER MISS – Began awkwardly. Shifted out when placed under pressure over the concluding stages. BRASS BEAD – Raced ungenerously for a short distance near the 1000m, having to be steadied. Rider B. Pengelly was cautioned over his use of the whip prior to the 100m. CRAIGLEA CRUELLA – Raced greenly in the middle stages. DEVINE MELODY – Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight. Race 2: Canadian Club Benchmark 65 H’cap – 1200m PURE REBEL – Shifted out at the start, bumping with another runner. Raced wide for the majority of the race. SIMPLY MARVELLOUS – Bumped by another runner on jumping away and lost ground. CANDY GIRL – Began awkwardly and lost ground. DEXTEROUS – Over-raced in the early and middle stages of the race. RISE TO FAME – Raced ungenerously in the middle stages. HARVEST PRIDE – Raced wide for the majority of the race. NADEEM ESPRIT – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the near fore coronet. Race 3: Carlton United Breweries Open H’cap – 1609m FOLLOW SUIT – Slow to begin. Shifted out near the 400m to obtain clear running, tightening another runner to the outside, which had to be restrained. Rider B. Pengelly was severely reprimanded and advised to show greater care when shifting ground. BOCHY – Slow to begin. MISHANI VAIDRA – Slow to begin. VASSAL – Slow to begin. Commenced to tire near the 400m and was tightened for room, having to be steadied. HOW CAN I HELP – Shifted in near the 400m and as a result was bumped on the hindquarters by another runner. CRIMSON HALO – Raced wide for the majority of the race. GOLD SYMPHONY – When questioned into the improved performance, rider A. Butler advised that after riding the gelding at its previous start at Beaudesert on 22 June 2019, he had advised connections that, in his opinion, the horse would benefit from a step up in distance and racing in a forward position. With no pace in the race today, the gelding obtained the lead, gaining easy sectionals in the middle stages, and travelled well in that position and ran the distance out strongly. Trainer L. Herne confirmed Jockey Butler’s remarks, and further advised stewards it had been the intention for the horse to lead at its previous starts, however due to the pace in those races was unable to do so. Stewards noted the explanation and advised Miss Herne that they would expect the gelding to be ridden in the similar fashion in future races should circumstances permit. Race 4: Paynters Townsville Dollars QTIS 3yo H’cap – 1400m VICTORY TOAST – Attempted to buck shortly after the start and took no competitive part in the event. Trainer T. Button was advised that the horse must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards in race day gear prior to being permitted to race again. SHENRON – Over-raced in the early and middle stages, throwing its head in the air. Raced wide for the majority of the race. BANK TELLER – Raced fiercely in the early stages. Restrained off heels leaving the 500m. GOWAY GIRL – Steadied off heels near the 900m. POETIC ATTACKS – Raced wide for the majority of the race. ARTE ET MARTE - Raced wide for the majority of the race. MISTER MAGNUSIFENT - Raced wide for the majority of the race. LAST CHANCE – On return to scale, Jockey J. Stanley advised Stewards it was not his intention to race back at the rear of the field, however after beginning sluggishly he was reluctant to push the horse forward in the large field, and also being mindful of its heavy impost of 58 kilograms and allowed the horse to settle at the rear of the field where it was comfortable. He further added that the gelding found the line strongly and in his opinion, is better suited racing in a more forward position. Stewards noted the explanation. Race 5: TAB Benchmark 60 H’cap – 1000m OUR RECIPE – Bounded in the air at the start and lost ground. MIGHTY MARMALADE – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the middle stages. PRICKLES – Steadied from heels near the 500m. Crowded for room leaving the 200m and was steadied. COUNTLESS ROCK – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight. GOLDEN GUARDIAN – Shifted in leaving the 200m, crowding another runner. Jockey P. Cullen was advised to show greater care in similar circumstances. MAGIC BELINDA – Raced wide for the majority of the race. TRIUMPH STAR – Raced wide for the majority of the race. Race 6: Brown Brothers Race To The Reef (Heat) Open H’cap – 1000m BLAZING STEEL – Fractious in the barrier prior to the start, then took a step back as the start was effected and lost ground. LUSHAN – Slow to begin. PLATINUM TYCOON – Began awkwardly. HIDDEN IN HEAVEN – Commenced to over-race for a short distance after the start. SPACE TIME – Laid in rounding the home turn near the 350m having to be corrected. MEGA D’ORO – Raced wide for the majority of the race. Race 7: Hygain Weight For Age – 1300m SEPTIMO – Began awkwardly. FRIENDLY DRAGON - Began awkwardly. GREY MISSILE - Began awkwardly. GUISSOLA - Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority of the race. ESCADAY – Slow to begin. Hung out in the middle stages proving difficult to ride. BULLION WOLF – Shifted out under pressure leaving the 300m inconveniencing another runner. Jockey N Day was reprimanded and advised to make a greater effort to keep his mounts straight in similar circumstances.
