Cullen General QRIC Stewards today inquired into the results of the analysis of a breath sample provided by apprentice jockey Amanda Thomson after riding trackwork at the Cairns Jockey Club on the morning of 30 October 2019. Ms Thomson in the presence of NQ Jockey Reprasentitve Mr Frank Edwards pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 139 (1) (a), The specifics being that on the morning of Wednesday 30 October at the Cairns racecourse whilst in the process of riding track-work, after being directed to supply a breath test did provide a sample which was found to be in excess of the permitted freshold limit of .02. After careful consideration, and taking into account, the high level, Ms Thomson’s guilty plea and remorsefulness, and bearing in mind the serious nature of this charge and the very real need to serve as a deterrent to other licensees, Ms Thomson’s license to ride in races, trackwork jumpouts or trials was suspended for a period of 6 months which commenced from the day she stood down Wednesday 30/10/2019 up to and including midnight 30 April 2020, acting under the provisions of AR 283, Ms Thomson was further advised, if able to provide to the Stewards, written documentation that she has obtained and completed a certified course in regards to alcohol and drug use, that 1 one month be wholly suspended for a period of 2 years that she does not reoffend under any similar rule in that 2 year period. Ms Thomson was advised she will be required to provide a urine and drug test clear of any abnormalities prior to her license being re-instated. Stewards accepted Ms Thomson’s explanation for not attending a Stewards inquiry Sunday 3 November. Race 1: MASTER BUILDERS – PROUD MEMBER BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1609M I’M NOT SURE – Slow to begin. FERINGO – Slow to begin. Race 2: MASTER BUILDERS – TRAIN WITH INDUSTRY EXPERTS MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M LINNET MOON – Slow into stride. Following this race, rider M. Abe was stood down by the ambulance officers due to soreness in his left ankle. M. Abe was advised he must provide a medical clearance prior to his next race ride. Rider replacements were made as per steward’s summary. DEADLY DAY – Jumped outwards at the start bumping another runner, and blundered. CIMMERON SPIRIT – Bumped by another runner on jumping, became unbalanced and was steadied and lost ground. ARTE ET MARTE – Raced wide for the majority of the race. Race 3: BE WITH YOU BUSSQ BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1000M Following the finish of this race, the judge advised stewards the photo finish had failed to operate, after viewing footage of the race and conferring with connections and judge, Stewards were satisfied that the judges placings were correct and correct weight was declared on those placings. 1st LIEUTENANT DAN, 2nd MERCURY BULLET, 3rd MIGHTY MARMALADE, 4th COUNT THE INTEREST. MIGHTY MARMALADE – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early and middle stages of the race. LIEUTENANT DAN – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early stages of the race. MERCURY BULLET – Bumped by another runner on jumping. DEXTEROUS – Began awkwardly and shifted in bumping another runner, then blundered badly and lost ground. Raced wide for the majority of the race. Race 4: MASTER BUILDERS – THE HOME OF BUILDING CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1400M SIDTHEKID – As M. Abe, was indisposed he was replaced by C. Jokic. Slow to begin. HARVEST PRIDE – Slow to begin. DORDOGNE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. SWEET TAST – Over-raced in the early and middle stages. PURE REBEL – Raced wide for the majority of the race. LORD ARCHER – Had a tendency to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages. Race 5: UNBREAKABLE TOYOTA HILUX BENCHMARK 45 H’CAP – 1200M PURPLE GREY – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Began awkwardly and lost ground. KANUI – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Bumped by another runner leaving the 500m. Raced wide for the majority of the race. GUNGA GALUNGA – Slow to begin. DIAMOND COUNTRY – Shifted out to improve leaving the 500m and bumped another runner. MADEMOISELLE POLLY – Commenced to lose ground near the 500m hampering another and again approaching 400m. PRESIDENTIAL JOY – Hampered by a tiring runner near the 500m and again approaching the 400m. ARNHEM BEAUTY – Hampered by another runner near the 150m which shifted out. Correct weight was delayed to allow rider P. Cullen to view the official film if he had grounds to lodge an objection against the second placegetter. After viewing the race film he declined to proceed. CLOUT – Commenced to lay out under pressure leaving the 300m and shifted out near the 150m hampering another runner. Whilst stewards noted the racing manners of the gelding rider M. Elliott was nonetheless severely reprimanded and advised to make a great effort in similar circumstances.
