GENERAL

This race meeting was conducted within the provisions of the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission Caring for Racing Animals in Extreme Heat Policy.

As Jockey N Day was unable to attend todays meeting due to personal reasons rider replacements were made as per Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM CLUDEN QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1000 metres

FIGURED - Bumped with another runner on jumping. Hampered by the riderless CRAIGLEA BANDIT approaching the 800m and shifted wider. Trailed the field from that point on. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

CRAIGLEA BANDIT - Commenced to buck passing the 950m dislodging its rider. Jockey G Kliese was attended to by QAS officers and stood down from his remaining engagements. Jockey Kliese was advised he would require a medical clearance prior to race riding again. Rider changes were made as per Stewards Race Day Summary. A post-race veterinary examination of the colt failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer K Johnston was advised the CRAIGLEA BANDIT would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to again being permitted to start in a race.

VIENNA CRUISE - Inclined to lay out under pressure down the running hampering another runner passing the 100m. Jockey S Wilson was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.

BEAUTIFUL TIME - Near the 100m was hampered by another runner which laid out under pressure.

Race 2: TAB Maiden Handicap 1400 metres

ALL TOO NATURAL - Dwelt in the barriers as the start was affected. Trainer S Jokic was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s barrier manners. Inconvenienced soon after the start by a runner which shifted in on jumping.

MISS FUBULICIOUS - Shifted in on jumping inconveniencing another runner.

SNEAKY GAL - Began awkwardly. Obliged to steady passing the 500m after attempting and being disappointed for a tight run along the inside running rail. Stewards queried the tactics adopted on the mare in the early part of the home straight when Jockey C Whitely elected to shift wider than appeared necessary to obtain clear running. Jockey Whiteley advised that at that point he had committed to shifting wider to obtain clear running and elected to shift around the heels of LIGHTHEADEDNESS (S Sheargold) as he anticipated runners to his inside shifting out further down the running, as they were racing tight at that point. Stewards noted the explanation.

LIGHTHEADEDNESS - Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running.

SOUL SEARCHER - Inclined to lay out rounding the 800m and 400m turns. Trainer R Chillemi was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings racing manners.

TWO OF A KIND - Obliged to steady momentarily after being crowded for room when tiring upon entering the home straight.

UP THE RIVER - Shifted out to obtain clear running upon entering the home straight and crowded a runner to its outside. Jockey C Whiteley was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) as a result of this incident. Stewards questioned Trainer J Caught as to the improved performance of the gelding. Mr Caught advised that, in his opinion, the slow tempo of today’s event suited the gelding which he believes to be better suited to races over further ground. Jockey Whiteley advised that his instructions had been to urge the gelding forward from the 600m as it usually comes off the bridle when the pace quickens but stated that today the gelding maintained its position into the home straight without excessive pressure and responded well to his urgings. Stewards noted the explanations.

Race 4: Vetta Productions Class 3 Plate 1400 metres

METRO MISSILE - Slow into stride. Hung out from the 600m shifting very wide rounding the home turn. Trainer K Russell was advised the mare would be required to trial prior to again being permitted to start in a race.

THE GROVE - Settled further forward than expected. Jockey J Stanley advised that no specific instructions had been given but that he had expected to settle in at best a midfield position. However, after beginning well and runners to his outside being interfered with on jumping the gelding was able to settle in a more forward position with cover. Stewards noted the explanation.

Stewards inquired into the reason NINEONEONE (J Babarovich) was obliged to restrain passing the 900m. After viewing the patrol footage and taking evidence from the riders involved it was ascertained that passing the 900m MIGHTY MARMALADE (F Edwards) shifted in acutely causing NINEONEONE to shift in and away from that runner, which in turn inconvenienced MESMER (S Wilson). Jockey F Edwards was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) as a result of this incident. In determining penalty Stewards took into account the degree of interference, the racing manners of NINEONEONE which had been racing ungenerously, as well as the evidence of the riders involved.

VENI VIDI VICI - Bumped with another runner on jumping. Raced wide throughout.
