QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOWNSVILLE TURF CLUB TOWNSVILLE – FIRDAY 12th February 2021 WEATHER – Overcast/Showers TRACK RATING – Soft 7 RAIL – True OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – C WarrenStewards – P Lane, D Griffiths, M Braunberger, D LaneClerk of Scales – K DeaneJudge – J Carter, M BatesVeterinarian – Dr D VieroSwab Attendants – Ms M BraunbergerStarter – J Cullen GENERAL Prior to the commencement of the meeting it was identified that a section of the crossing on the course proper required remedial work after a being crossed by several vehicles moving onto the interior training track. To allow for this work to be carried out the following race times were amended as follows: Race 1- 2:12pmRace 2- 2:52pmRace 3- 3:22pmRace 4- 3:52pmRace 5- 4:23pmRace 6- 4:53pm Race 1: HYGAIN QTIS 2yo MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000m CRAIGLEA IVYSAUR- Began awkwardly and shifted out. Raced wide throughout. Tired noticeably in the home straight. Jockey B Thomson advised that, in her opinion, the gelding resented the tongue tie in running. Trainer K Johnston advised of an intention to remove that piece of gear going forward. ROTHGURL- Slow to begin. Trailed the field throughout the event before finishing off fairly. ANNIEMARIAH- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Passing the 800m shifted in tightening runners to its inside. Jockey F Edwards was severely reprimanded as a result of this incident. GEM ROWIE- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Hampered by another runner which shifted in passing the 800m. CRAIZGLEA BANDIT- Hampered by another runner which shifted in passing the 800m. Raced awkwardly for a short distance passing the 500m. THIRSTY- Raced wide from the 800m. Jockey D Smith advised that, in his opinion, the filly did not appreciate todays softer racing surface. SHRECK- Raced awkwardly for a short distance passing the 500m. FIRE KING- Raced wide throughout. Race 2: ON COURSE CATERING- MICHELS CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1400m PONDEROSO- Stewards permitted the substitution of Jockey N Day as the rider of the gelding. Began awkwardly and shifted out. RED RED ROSE- Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority. OVERSEAS- Began awkwardly, shifted in an bumped another runner. TAINTED AFFAIR- Bumped by another runner on jumping, shifted in and bumped with a further runner. MISS CELITA- Inconvenienced soon after the start by a runner which was bumped and taken in. Restrained after becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of another runner approaching the 1200m. OPINIONS- Inconvenienced soon after the start by a runner which was bumped and taken in. Shifted in and around the heels of another runner leaving the 100m in order to obtain clear running. Race 3: HAPPY VALENTINES DAY OPEN HANDICAP 1400m QUIDNI- As the gelding had raced on the 6th February underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Shifted out on jumping and bumped with another runner. Obliged to shift out and around the heels of another runner passing the 200m. Inclined to layout under pressure passing the 50m. ZAMEX- Buffeted between runners on jumping. ATTIQUE- Began awkwardly. UMBERTO- Dwelt in the barriers. Inconvenienced and obliged to steady when tightened for room passing the 50m. MASONS CHANCE- Shifted in on jumping bumping with another runner. Inclined to over-race approaching the 1000m. LADY YENDOR- Raced wide from the 600m. Inclined to lay in under pressure passing the 50m. KINGS COUNTRY- Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running. Jockey Day advised that when the pace slowed approaching the 1000m his mount resented his efforts to restrain and as such he elected to shift wider and go forward obtaining the lead passing the 800m. When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance Trainer A Coome advised that the short spacing between runs prior to last start was to the geldings detriment and with the longer break leading into todays event he expected a forward showing. Race 4: SKY RATING QTIS 3yo HANDICAP 1200m COURTING SARA- Proved difficult to load. STARFILLY- Proved difficult to load. Began awkwardly. Commenced to over-race after being crossed by another runner passing the 1100m. SHUTTER MONKEY- Began very awkwardly, shifted in bumping another runner and lost ground as a result. Struggled to maintain contact with the field from that point on before commencing to trail off on entering the home straight. App Cass advised that, in her opinion, the filly may have resented the softer track conditions. App Cass was cautioned for her whip use under AR132. PRINCESS RULES- Bumped by another runner on jumping. APOLLINE- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Raced keenly in the middle stages. CAT IN THE RAINE- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Raced wide in the early stages before making a forward move approaching the 1000m and obtaining a forward position closer to the inside running rail. Tired noticeably in the home straight. Jockey A Sewell advised that after electing to go forward early to avoid being caught excessively wide the filly was found wanting in the home straight adding that, in his opinion, his mount felt flat throughout. Trainer D Amos advised connections would be considering the fillies immediate racing future in the coming days. HIGHER REALM- Raced keenly in the middle stages. Inclined to lay in under pressure upon entering the home straight. Race 5: JOIN US FOR TTC TRIVIA TONIGHT BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1000m LIMERICK MOON- Due to a clerical error the gelding was not shown as wearing blinkers in the official program. As such Stewards permitted the gelding to race in blinkers. BET ON LOVE- Stewards permitted the substitution of Jockey N Day as rider of the gelding. PERFECT KNOWLEDGE- Began awkwardly. Momentarily awkwardly place on heels passing the 500m before shifting wider to improve. Raced wide for the majority. Jockey C Spry was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he did use his whip on 6 occasions, one more than permitted, prior to the 100m. SUCH A WHIT- Slow into stride after being marginally slow to begin. Jockey T Bannon advised that after missing the start the gelding felt slightly awkward in its action throughout the event and did not let down as she had expected. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. TRUCULENT- Inclined to over-race when trailing another runner before shifting wider to improve passing the 700m. BET ON LOVE- Bumped with another runner on several occasions over the concluding stages. SYLVESTER- Bumped with another runner on several occasions over the concluding stages. Race 6: TAB MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000m WRONGLY ACCUSED- Fractious in the barrier. Raced wide throughout. RUN RAMPANT- Began awkwardly and bumped with another runner on jumping. NEW YORK POET- Slow to begin. ALL BAR SURAH- Marginally slow away. SEBERTON- Began awkwardly. DREAMING HIGH- Shifted out on jumping bumping with another runner. BLUMISS- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Momentarily over-raced when being crossed by runners to its outside passing the 700m. MORATA- Shifted in and bumped with another runner passing the 700m. LUCKY IN LIFE- Bumped by another runner on jumping. Bumped by another runner which shifted in passing the 700m. WHITS END- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Commenced to hang out from the 700m, shifted in approaching the 500m inconveniencing another runner. Jockey S Sheargold was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. A post-race veterinary examination found the gelding to have sustained a laceration to its off-front coronet in running. MALLYUMKIN- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Obliged to restrain approaching the 500m when a runner to its outside shifted in. Raced wide throughout. THE WAITERS EYE- After beginning on terms with the field was unable to muster the early speed necessary to maintain its position and assumed a rearward position before finishing the race off fairly. Race 7: BRIGHTER LIVES HOSPITAL FOUNDATION BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1609m MIKEYS TURF- Slow into stride after beginning awkwardly. Bumped by another runner on jumping. Jockey B Thomson advised that after receiving interference at the start her mount was reluctant to travel on the softer going and failed to let down in the home straight. Trainer S Potiris advised the mare would be sent for an immediate spell. LOVE FLIES- Slow to begin. FOXY SECRET- Shifted in passing the 1400m inconveniencing another runner. Jockey N Day was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Bumped with another runner passing the 200m. CRAIGLEA CETINA- After being inconvenienced by another runner passing the 1400m commenced to race fiercely, causing rider App Cass to become unbalanced, and continued to do so until a point near the 1000m. Held up rounding the home turn and disappointed for clear running in the early part of the home straight and again approaching the 100m before shifting wider at that point. STOLEN DIAMONDS- Momentarily over-raced approaching the 1000m. Obliged to steady after being disappointed for a marginal run passing the 150m. MOVING TARGET- Bumped with another runner passing the 200m. BON RUBY- Inclined to lay out under pressure down the running. PRETTY MAMA- Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running. MARVELOUS HEART- Bumped by another runner passing the 200m. SHADOW ECLIPSE- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Shifted out and away from another runner which was laying out passing the 200m and bumped with another runner. Raced wide throughout. Was found to have lost its off-hind plate in running. Race 8: VERY CASUAL EVENTS CLASS 5 PLATE 1200m ASHTON BLAIR- After becoming fractious in the barriers during loading was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to start. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Jockey F Edwards advised that, in his opinion, the gelding did not appreciate todays softer racing surface. Trainer G Hughes stated he was disappointed with the performance and concurred with Jockey Edward’s assessment being of the opinion the gelding is at its best on a firmer racing surface. ABERRATION- Slow into stride. CRAIGLEA SIMMO- Bumped by another runner on jumping. UNSHAKABLE- Began awkwardly and shifted out bumping another runner BOLD EOS- Inconvenienced by another runner which shifted in passing the 1000m. HARD YAGA- Shifted in inconveniencing another runner passing the 1000m. Jockey S Wilson was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Tired noticeably in the concluding stages. Jockey S Wilson advised his mount travelled well throughout but was unable to finish off in the home straight. Trainer T Rowe advised he was disappointed with the performance and undertook to advise should anything become apparent regarding the geldings condition in the coming days. CHEESE BURGER- Bumped by another runner on jumping, shifted out and bumped with a further runner. Tired over the concluding stages. Trainer A Molino advised the he believes the step up in class and the softer track conditions were telling factors in the geldings poor performance today. DISCO MO- Jockey J Stanley was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he did use his whip 7 times, 2 more than permitted, prior to the 100m.
