QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOWNSVILLE TURF CLUB TOWNSVILLE – THURSDAY 15th April 2021 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Good 4 RAIL – Out 5.5metres 1000m-W/Post; Out 4metres the remainder OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – C Warren Stewards – P Lane, P Warren, D Griffiths, D LaneClerk of Scales – K DeaneJudge – M Bates, J CarterVeterinarian – Dr D VieroSwab Attendants – M BraunbergerStarter – J Cullen GENERAL Due to delays impacting riders caused by a traffic accident the start time for Race 1 was amended to 12:22pm. Runners in later races were also impacted with the action taken in those instances as listed below. As Apprentice A Patis was not attending todays meeting rider changes were made as per Stewards Race Day Summary. Race 1: GET MARRIED @ CLUDEN PARK QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200m CRAIGLEA ICON- As App. E Cass was delayed due to a traffic incident Stewards permitted Jockey J Felix to be substituted as the rider of the filly when no other Apprentice rider was available. Race 2: BROWN BROTHERS CELLAR DOOR 26 & 27 JUNE OPEN HANDICAP 1200m BOYER- Commenced to race ungenerously soon after jumping. Trainer B Williams was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings racing manners. Improved onto heels passing the 1000m when the pace slackened and continued to over-race until a point near the 700m. Stewards inquired into a protracted incident which took place in the early and middle stages of the event. After viewing the official patrol footage and taking evidence from the riders involved Stewards were of the opinion that when LOVE IS BLIND (S Wilson) crossed BOYER (App M Potgieter) whilst not fully clear had that runner continued at a genuine pace the interference would have been negligible however, having commenced to ease soon after crossing to the inside running rail Jockey Wilson had slowed the pace to an extent where App Potgieter was obliged to restrain his mount to avoid heels. Jockey Wilson was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(d). In determining penalty Stewards considered the racing manners of BOYER leading up to the incident to be a mitigating factor.
