GENERAL
 
During a stable inspection conducted on Tuesday, 25th of May, 2021 Stewards became aware that a horse trained by Mr. Chris Parry was stabled at an address other than his registered stable address. Mr. Parry pleaded guilty to a charge under AR101(i) and was subsequently fined $200.
 
Jockey S Sheargold was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of AR232(b) in that he did not comply with a Stewards direction, given on the 8th April 2021, to not accept rides under 54.5kg until such time as he is able to demonstrate his weight is at a stable level.
 
 
 
Race 1: TAB DOWNLOAD THE APP MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200m
 
The start was delayed when MACIPENKO took charge of its rider in the preliminary and galloped a considerable distance. The gelding was subsequently declared a late scratching at 12:23pm. All monies invested on the gelding were ordered to be refunded and the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 12:23pm:
 
9 cents in the dollar for the win
13 cents in the dollar for the place of winner
15 cents in the dollar for 2nd place
13 cents in the dollar for 3rd place
 
 
Trainers representative J Foggarty was advised the gelding would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
 
 
LITTLE IVY- Trainer P Cullen was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions or AR227 for presenting the filly for pre-race inspection without blinkers. Stood flatfooted as the start was effected. Trainer P Cullen was advised the filly would be required to trial prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
 
NO HARM DONE- Began awkwardly. Bumped with another runner when shifting wider to improve passing the 500m.
 
BEYOND REPROACH- Began awkwardly after being marginally slow into stride and shifted out bumping with another runner. Inclined to lay out passing the 900m. Raced wide for the majority.
 
ON YOUR SKATES- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Bumped by another runner which shifted wider passing the 500m. Raced wide for the majority.
 
ARMAGEDDON FLYER- Inclined to over-race in the middle stages and was momentarily crowded passing the 900m. Inclined to lay out whilst racing ungenerously passing the 600m.
 
MAGNATE- Raced wide for the majority. 
 
 
 
Race 2: SKY RACING QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000m
 
KURANDA- Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Shifted out on jumping bumping with another runner before shifting back in and bumping with a further runner. Shifted in passing the 800m hampering a runner to its inside. App E Cass was reprimanded as a result of this incident. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight before shifting wider and obtaining clear running leaving the 200m. Raced wide for the majority.
 
MISHANI DUDE- Proved somewhat difficult to load. Trainer J Manzelmann was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding as a result.
 
WINNING SAGA- Bumped with another runner on jumping after being marginally slow into stride and became momentarily unbalanced. Inclined to race greenly passing the 500m.
 
CHATEAU ROYALE- Shifted out and bumped with another runner on jumping.
 
THIRSTY- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Raced wide for the majority.
 
HALLSIDE HAMMER- Bumped with another runner on jumping. When questioned regarding the improved performance Trainer L Gordy advised that the shorter distance of todays event as well as the gelding being able to obtain the lead with relative ease were telling factors in the improved performance. Stewards noted the explanation.  
 
LOVE YOU LINDA- Began awkwardly and bumped with another runner. Raced wide for the majority.
 
YABULU PRINCESS- Began awkwardly and shifted in on jumping. Shifted in and away from another runner which shifted in passing the 700m. Bumped by another runner which shifted wider on entering the home straight. Raced wide the majority.
 
IT’S A PLOY- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Hampered passing the 800m when a runner to its outside shifted in. Bumped with another runner when shifting wider to obtain clear running on entering the home straight.
 
COCHRANE- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Bumped with another runner passing the 800m. Inclined to race ungenerously throughout the middle stages. Raced in restricted room on entering the home straight until a point near the 100m.
 
JUST SID- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Bumped with another runner passing the 800m and momentarily hampered soon after by another runner which shifted in.
 
PURPLE HAT- Momentarily held up for clear running on entering the home straight before shifting in approaching the 200m.
 
THIRSTY- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Raced wide for the majority.
 
ARAWELO- Race wide for the majority.
 
EAGLE EYE STAR- Due to a clerical error the horse was displayed as a Colt in the official program despite never having raced as a Colt. Patrons were notified by way of on course announcement. Trainer S D’Avila was directed to amend the stable return to reflect the horse’s status as a gelding. Shifted in leaving the 800m hampering another runner. Jockey M Abe was reprimanded as a result of this incident.
 
 
 
Race 3: RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP NOW CLASS 6 PLATE 1000m
 
 
RED SATIN- Dwelt in the barriers and lost ground. Trainer J Manzelmann was advised a warning would be placed on the mare as a result.
 
ROCKET HEAD- After beginning on terms with the field was unable to muster the pace required to maintain its position settling toward the rear of the field.
 
SANGLIER- Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running. Raced wide for the majority.
 
BET ON LOVE- Inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
DELUXE ROCKER- Performed below market expectations. Jockey C Whiteley advised that the fast pace of todays event did not suite his mount and as such the gelding failed to let down as expected. Jockey Whiteley also advised he had suggested the gelding be ridden more conservatively going forward. Trainer S Massingham concurred and stated he would consider implementing a change in tactics.
 
WHICH LILY- A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have sustained a minor laceration to the right hind in running.
 
 
Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to a Good 4 retrospective to race 3.
 
 
 
Race 4: BROWN BROTHERS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000m
 
UNUSUAL LAD- Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Bumped with another runner on jumping.
 
PRINCESS GLEE- Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at the barriers and was passed fit to start. Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped with another runner. Tightened for room and obliged to steady and shift in passing the 700m. Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running and obliged to steady momentarily passing the 150m when a runner to its inside shifted out.
 
OUR GIRL JACQUIE- Began awkwardly and shifted in on jumping.
 
ONE MOR FIELD- Shifted out and bumped with another runner on jumping. Obliged to restrain and shift in after being tightened for room passing the 700m.
 
VALIANT KNIGHT- Shifted out on jumping bumping with another runner before shifting in and bumping with a further runner. Obliged to check and shift in when a runner to its outside shifted in passing the 700m. Raced wide for the majority.
 
SAUNDERS SUN- Began awkwardly. Shifted out and away from another runner passing the 200m and continued to shift out marginally hampering a runner to its outside passing the 150m. Jockey G Kliese was reminded of his obligations.
 
QUARTER PAST- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Raced wide for the majority. Jockey D Smith pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) in that passing the 700m he did permit his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of VALIANT KNIGHT (B Thomson) which was obliged to check and shift in tightening the running of ONE MORE FIELD (L Tilley), PRINCESS GLEE (N Thomas) and SPILL THE PENNIES (F Edwards). Jockey D Smith’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 10 days to commence on the 13th of June 2021 up to and including the 22nd of June 2021. In determining penalty Stewards considered the degree of carelessness and interference, which was deemed to be in the mid-range, Jockey Smith’s guilty plea and his record in relation to the rule. Jockey Smith was advised of his right to an internal review.
 
SPILL THE PENNIES- Tightened for room and obliged to restrain passing the 700m.
 
 
 
 
Race 5: CARLTON & UNITED BREWERIES BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1900m
 
ART ATTACK- As the gelding had raced on the 29th of May underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start.
 
LEFKAS ISLAND- As the mare had raced on the 29th of May underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Raced wide for the majority.
 
UP THE RIVER- Began awkwardly and bumped with another runner. Inclined to hang out rounding 1600m turn. Inclined to over-race in the early and middle stages. Performed below market expectations. Jockey C Whiteley advised that the slow pace of todays event did not suite his mount adding that he would expect an improved performance over a similar distance with a genuine tempo. Trainer J Caught concurred with Jockey Whiteley’s assessment and stated the intention would now be to give the gelding a short let up prior to racing again. Stewards noted the explanations. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
REBEL LAKE- Bumped with another runner on jumping before shifting out and bumping with a further runner.
 
JIMMY WITH A DASH- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Inclined to race keenly in the early stages.
 
BALMACEDA- Began awkwardly and bumped with another runner. Became awkward momentarily when racing over the 1600m crossing. 
 
BORELLA- Inclined to over-race passing the 1600m.
 
 
 
 
Race 6: BOOK YOUR WEDDING AT CLUDEN PARK OPEN HANDICAP 1400m
 
MASONS CHANCE- As the gelding had raced on the 29th of May underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start.
 
DORDOGNE- Marginally slow into stride. Obliged to shift wider after improving onto heels passing the 1200m. Raced wide for the majority.
 
TENNESSEE BOY- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Inclined to race keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
DUNATUN- Obliged to steady after improving onto heels passing the 1200m.
 
FUNKY MUSIC- Obliged to steady after improving onto heels passing the 1200m.
 
BREAK MY STRIDE- Inclined to race keenly in the middle stages. Inclined to race ungenerously from the 500m until a point near the 400m when obliged to steady after racing in restricted room. Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
 
BUSTER BLOCK- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Commenced to over-race after improving onto heels passing the 1200m and continued to race ungenerously for some distance. Shifted in passing the 400m tightening runners to its inside. Jockey P Cullen was severely reprimanded as a result of this incident.
 
 
 
 
Race 7: FRIDAY NIGHT MEMBERS JACKPOT CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1000m
 
VARSITY- Having raced on the 29th of May underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. After making heavy contact with a gate on exiting the mounting yard underwent a pre-race veterinary examination behind the barriers and was declared a late scratching at 4:02pm. All monies invested on the gelding were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 4:02pm:
 
1 cent in the dollar for the win
1 cent in the dollar for the place of winner
1 cent in the dollar for 2nd place
1 cent in the dollar for 3rd place
 
Trainer S McCormack was advised the gelding would require a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
 
 
BELLEVITA- Began awkwardly bumping with another runner.
 
RED DENARO- Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped with another runner. Raced wide for the majority.
 
ASSETS- Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped with another runner.
 
NORWEGIAN WOOD- Began awkwardly and shifted out bumping with another runner before being buffeted between runners and losing ground.
 
TATACHILLA- Bumped with another runner on jumping.
 
JUST A LOVE SONG- Shifted in and away from another runner approaching the 800m consequently shifting inside the line of the course proper inside running rail and having to shift back out and as a result momentarily hampered another runner.
 
STRIKE A BEAU- Momentarily hampered by another runner which was obliged to shift out passing the 800m. On entering the home straight was obliged to momentarily steady after improving onto heels and shift out to obtain clear running approaching the 200m.
 
LIGHTHEADEDNESS- Raced wide for the majority.
 
METEORANO- Raced wide for the majority.
 
STRUMAN- App. A Thompson was fined the sum of $500 under the provisions of AR131(b) in that he did fail to ride his mount out to the finish of the race which, in the opinion of Stewards, cost the filly 4th placing.
 
 
 
 
Race 8: IN MEMORY OF JIM FARRELL CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1200m
 
TIGER CAN- Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Disappointed for clear running on entering the home straight before shifting wider.
 
BOLD THALIA- Obliged to shift wider to obtain clear running on entering the home straight.
 
SOLOMON- Inclined to lay in rounding the home turn bumping with another runner on entering the home straight.
 
VAN GAAL- On entering the home straight was bumped by another runner, which had been inclined to lay in, and was consequently disappointed for a run.
 
EIGHTFA- Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running and momentarily raced in marginally restricted room approaching the 200m.
 
LIGHTHORSE LAD- Jockey C Spry advised that after it became evident his mount was going to be caught wide he elected to urge the gelding forward passing the 1100m and obtain the lead and a position closer to the inside running rail at the 1000m.
 
VISCOSITY- A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a poor post-race recovery.
