QUEENSLAND RACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOWNSVILLE TURF CLUB TOWNSVILLE – THURSDAY 9th September 2021 WEATHER – Overcast TRACK RATING – Good 3 RAIL – +4m 1000-W/Post; +2.5m Remainder PENETROMETER – 4.35 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – P LaneStewards – D Griffiths, P Warren, D LaneClerk of Scales – S NosworthyJudge – J Carter, M Bates Veterinarian – Dr D VieroSample Collection Officer – M BraunbergerStarter – J Cullen GENERAL Race 1: TAB MAIDEN HANDICAP 1300m DALBERGIA – Slowly away. Inconvenienced soon after jumping. TOSCAVALE ROAD – Shifted in soon after jumping, inconveniencing a runner to its inside. PEERLESS CRUISE – App M Potgieter reported the mare raced ungenerously for the majority. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Race 2: QTIS 3YO HANDICAP 1000m AHOOSHU – Broke through the barrier soon after being loaded and was quickly restrained. Was inspected by the veterinarian and passed fit to start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a mild laceration to the tongue. WINNING SAGA – Shifted out to avoid heels near the 900m forcing another runner wider. ETERNAL BEAN – Was forced wider near the 900m racing wide from the point. CHOIR BOY – Restrained in the early stages in order to obtain a position closer to the inside running rail. Shifted wider near the 250m to obtain clear running. MISHANI DUDE – Raced wide for the majority. HUSETTE – Slowly into stride after beginning awkwardly. Performed below market expectations. On returning to the enclosure the tongue control bit was found to have shifted in the filly’s mouth. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Race 3: CARLTON & UNITED BREWERIES CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1000m Trainer R Tapiolas was fined the sum of $100 under the provisions of LR36 after failing to scratch dual acceptor TICKET TO INDIA from this event prior to the prescribed time. Mr Tapiolas was fined a further $100 under the provisions of LR67 for the late declaration of J Felix as the rider of HIBACHI MISS. CAT IN THE RAINE – The mare, which competed at Mareeba on Saturday September 4th, underwent a pre-race Veterinary inspection and was cleared to start. Raced wide for the majority. COULD YOU BE LOVED – Shifted out at the start inconveniencing a runner to its outside. Restrained off heels near the 500m. BROOKWYN – Inconvenienced when tightened between runners on jumping. ZOU SOME DAMAGE – Inconvenienced when tightened between runners on jumping. PIQABOO – Shifted in on jumping tightening runners to its inside. MESMER – Slowly away. GIORDANO – Raced wide for the majority. HIBACHI MISS – Raced wide for the majority. Race 4: HYGAIN CLASS 6 PLATE 1200m STAR BANNER – Slowly away. BUSTED UP – Began awkwardly making heavy contact with the outside barrier partition. Jockey A. Butler who sustained an injury to his left knee in this incident declared himself fit to fulfill his remaining engagements. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the tongue. WILLYGOOD – Had to be restrained when awkwardly placed in restricted room near the 1000m. Raced fiercely for a short distance after. ROTHMAN – Was inclined to lay in near the 1000m despite the efforts of its rider W. D’Avila crowding a runner to its inside. FUNKY MUSIC – Was inclined to over-race in the middle stages. Race 5: BROWN BROTHERS CLASS 4 PLATE 1400m ASK ME TOMORROW – Slowly into stride. BREAKDANCE (NZ) – Slowly into stride. Unable to muster early pace before being ridden forward in the middle stages to assume the lead. Tired noticeably over the concluding stages. ZABERFELDIE (NZ) – Bumped with another runner on jumping. Raced wide for the majority. KEIGHLEY SUN – Bumped with another runner on jumping. Had to be restrained off heels on a number of occasions between the 900m and the 800m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the near fore coronet. HONEST NATALIE – Had to be restrained off heels near the 900m. BOOM GATE – Raced 3 wide for the majority. Race 6: CLUDEN PARK SPRING RACING CARNIVAL BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1609m SIDE HUSTLE – After being reluctant to load the gelding was found to have shifted the near fore plate. When removed from the barrier it was evident that the near hind plate had also shifted. Follow advice from Starter Mr J Cullen Stewards ordered that all four plates be removed and acting under the provisions of AR107(2) permitted the gelding to race barefoot. Also proved difficult to reload. Shifted ground under pressure in the home straight. Trainer C Attard was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s barrier manners. OWN SWEET WAY (NZ) – Slowly away. GUANGZHOU – Shifted out to improve near the 600m taking another runner wider. REBEL LAKE – Taken wider near the 600m. BREAK MY STRIDE – Raced in restricted room between runners in the home straight. Race 7: MELBOURNE CUP TICKETS ON SALE NOW CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1200m RED WABBAT - Due to an administrative error Blinkers did not appear in form publications as part of the mare’s racing gear. This was not a gear change. Punters were advised via social media and on-course public address. Inconvenienced when tightened between runners soon after jumping. VALIDAR – Shifted out on jumping inconveniencing runners to its outside. RED RED ROSE – Inconvenienced on jumping. Bumped with another runner on several occasions soon after the start. DEVIL’S NUMBER - Inconvenienced on jumping. Bumped with another runner on several occasions soon after the start. Raced ungenerously passing the 900m. Momentarily tightened for running near the 350m. PEONY ROSE – Began awkwardly inconveniencing a runner to its inside. Inclined to over-race when crossed by another runner near the 900m. TICKET TO INDIA – Inconvenienced on jumping. WANNA TWEET – Began awkwardly causing Jockey N Thomas to lose his near side iron placing him at a disadvantage for a short distance. STAR SINGER – Slowly away. MARCY MAGIC – Shifted out soon after jumping. Momentarily tightened for running near the 350m. POLHAMPTON – Shifted in soon after the start. Restrained and shifted out around heels near the 500m. Raced tight with another for a considerable distance in the home straight making heavy contact on a number of occasions. NORWEGIAN WOOD - Raced tight with another for a considerable distance in the home straight making heavy contact on a number of occasions GREENSKEEPER – Raced wide in the early stages. Shifted in marginally near the 350m momentarily tightening runners to its inside. RACE 8: PALLARENDA STAKES DAY 23 OCTOBER RATINGS BAND 0-55 HANDICAP 1400m ARISE MY SON – Shifted out on jumping bumping with another runner. Over-raced in the early and middle stages. CATCHA SPARK – Bumped by another runner on jumping. Had to be restrained when awkwardly placed near the 1000m. Raced wide for the majority. SALSA DREAMING – Over-raced in the early stages. Had to be restrained when racing in restricted room near the 1000m. OPINIONS – Restrained in the early stages to obtain a position closer to the inside running rail. Momentarily inconvenienced near the 1000m. AS YAWOOD – Restrained in the early stages to obtain a position closer to the inside running rail. THREE PHASE – Jockey C Spry reported that the mare had changed stride near the 1000m becoming momentarily unbalanced and inconveniencing a runner following. Tired noticeably over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. NATURE DEEL – Raced wide for the majority. BUON NATALE – Raced wide for the majority. JOEL – Raced wide for the majority. Stewards intend to interview Jockey S. Wilson who rode TEMPO (NZ) in relation to his use of the whip in running.
