SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

Cloncurry October 8, 2021
Race 7. JBS AUSTRALIA COUNTRY CUPS CHALLENGE QUALIFIER/CLONCURRY CUP OPEN HANDICAP 1600m

Stewards, today, interviewed Jockey S Sheargold in relation to his riding of CINNAMON MISSILE over the concluding stages of the event. After considering Jockey Sheargold’s submission and reviewing the patrol footage Stewards could not be completely satisfied that Jockey Sheargold’s lack of vigour over the final 50m had any tangible effect on the race result. Nonetheless Jockey Sheargold was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out to the finish of the race under the provisions of AR131(b).

GENERAL
Jockeys B Pengelly and A Thomson who were not in attendance at today’s race meeting due to illness were both advised they would be required to provide a medical clearance prior to resuming race riding. Replacements were made as per Stewards Race Day Summary.

Due to current COVID restrictions the following overweights were permitted.
Race 1. MARINASARA. S Wilson +1kg.
ON YOUR SKATES. S Sheargold +0.5kg.
Race 3. WHICH LILY. G Kliese +1kg.
Race 6. CALCULUS. C Whiteley +0.5kg.
Race 7. CHEEKY REWARD. S Sheargold +0.5kg.

Race 1. RQ SUPPORTS RACING INDUSTRY SAFETY MAIDEN HANDICAP 1609m

The start of this event was delayed to facilitate the removal of two stray dogs from the racecourse.

DAWN STRIKE - Inclined to race keenly in the early and middle stages.

MARINASARA - Jockey S Wilson was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on 6 occasions, 1 more than permitted, prior to the 100m.

Race 2. TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY QTIS 3YO HANDICAP 1000m

CHYNA EXPRESS - Bumped with another runner on jumping. Bumped by another runner which shifted out passing the 500m. Shifted in marginally passing the 200m bumping with another runner. Raced greenly for the majority. Raced wide throughout.

GOSSIPING GIRL - Bumped with another runner on jumping and was slowly into stride as a result.

VIENNA CRUISE - Shifted out and bumped with another runner on jumping. Commenced to race ungenerously for a short distance after being momentarily restrained passing the 800m. Inclined to lay out rounding the home turn.

CHOIR BOY - Hampered by another runner which shifted out on jumping. Jockey C Spry advised that the gelding was inclined to over-race today with the addition of blinkers. As such, from a wide barrier he elected to permit the gelding to stride forward and obtain a prominent position rather than being caught wide. Trainer S Acornley advised that a gear change will be considered prior to next race start.

AVATEA - Over-raced in the middle stages. Obliged to steady momentarily passing the 200m when a runner to the outside shifted in.

HUSSETTE - Inclined to layout in the vicinity of the 600m and shifted out bumping with another runner passing the 500m. Jockey S Wilson advised that, in his opinion, going forward, the filly would be better suited to races over a longer distance than that of today’s event.

ETERNAL BEAN - Bumped by another runner passing the 200m and shifted in momentarily inconveniencing a runner to its inside.

Race 3. HYGAIN OPEN HANDICAP 1000m

FUNKY MUSIC – Trainer G Dickson, when questioned, advised in his opinion that although the gelding has won over 1400m it is better suited to shorter distances, and the particularly strong pace of today’s event had also been a telling factor in the performance.

WHICH LILY – Raced ungenerously and inclined to lay out in the middle stages.

CHEVAUX – Persevered unsuccessfully for a marginal rails run between the 300m and the 200m. When unable to improve into that run, switched around heels near the 100m. Finished off fairly

MOLONGLE CHIEF – Had to be restrained to avoid heels approaching the winning post.

Race 4. BROWN BROTHERS MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000m

BRAVE MISSILE – The gelding, which was resuming following a lengthy absence from racing, underwent a pre-race Veterinary inspection and was cleared to start.

Following the running of this event Stewards upgraded the track rating to a Good 3.

Race 5. QTIS 3YO MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200m

Following the running of this event Jockeys R Wiggins and N Thomas both requested to view the patrol footage of the early stages to determine whether there were grounds for either rider to lodge an objection. After viewing the footage neither rider elected to proceed and subsequently Stewards declared Correct Weight on the Judge’s numbers.

IDOL DRAGON – Began very awkwardly, having to be restrained to avoid the heels of a runner to its inside.

IMBATIDO – Shifted out on jumping hampering a runner to its outside. Approaching the first turn was bumped heavily by a runner to its outside which was shifting in. Bumped with a runner to its outside near the 300m becoming unbalanced. Unable to obtain clear running for the majority of the home straight. Went to the line without being fully tested.

BRIDGERTON - Approaching the first turn was bumped heavily by a runner to its outside which had been taken in. Commenced to race greenly and lost ground when placed in restricted room passing the 800m. Jockey S Sheargold reported the filly, which was having its 2nd race start, had continued to race greenly from that point.

ACTION JACKSON – Marginally slowly away and then hampered when runners to either side shifted ground. Had to be restrained off the heels of another runner which lost ground passing the 800m. MOODY’S LUCK – Shifted in approaching the first turn hampering IMBATIDO (R Wiggins) and BRIDGERTON (S Sheargold). Jockey J Lyon was severely reprimanded for careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a).

Jockey J Lyon pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that soon after the start whist riding his mount MOODY’S LUCK forward, he directed that filly inwards tightening the running of GETITON (P Cullen) and GINGER MULE (N Thomas), both of which had to be checked, losing their rightful running. Although Stewards did acknowledge a minor outwards shift from DABILDOYA (C Spry), which was racing to the inside of GINGER MULE and GETITON, they were of the opinion this had little or no bearing on the end result, that being the interference suffered by GINGER MULE and GETITON, due to Jockey Lyon continuing to direct MOODY’S LUCK inwards under riding. Jockey Lyon’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 12 days to commence Sunday October 24, 2021 up to and including Thursday November 4, 2021. In assessing penalty Stewards considered Jockey Lyon’s personal circumstances, his conduct during the inquiry, his record in relation to the rule, his guilty plea, and the degree of interference which was deemed to be in the mid-range. Jockey Lyon was advised of his right to refer the matter to the Internal Reviewer.
