GENERAL
 
Due to the cancellation of a southern race meeting the following race time amendments were put in place:
Race 3. 1.49pm

The following over-weights were permitted by Stewards:

Race 1. GALLAGHER INSURANCE CLASS 3 PLATE 1400m
 
AMUTHON – Slowly away. Shifted out near the 800m racing wide from that point.
 
ODDFELLOW (NZ) – Slowly into stride. Over-raced in the middle stages.
 
LET’S CONQUER – Over-raced in the early stages.
 
VIKING CLAP – Raced wide without cover in the early stages.
 
COLLOMBATTI – Over-raced in the early stages. Shifted out marginally near the 150m when tiring inconveniencing a runner to its outside. Jockey S Sheargold advised that despite his efforts he was unable to settle the gelding. Jockey Sheargold was of the opinion that the gelding, which has an unimpressive record at Townsville, is not suited to the circuit. Trainer M McGuire advised Stewards that he will restrict the gelding’s future racing to other venues where practicable. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no abnormalities.
 
MAGNATE – Restrained off heels near the 1000m. Raced keenly passing the 600m.
 
JAMOCHA – Shifted wide in order to improve near the 950m.
 
THAT’S TWO SLABS – Momentarily inconvenienced when restrained off the heels of a tiring runner near the 300m.
 
Stewards advised jockey M Abe (MISS FUBULICIOUS) that until notified otherwise, he would not be permitted to accept rides under 56kg.
 
Race 2. LOST AND FOUND MUSIC FESTIVAL MARCH 19TH CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1200m
 
CINDERELLA ROSE – Trailed the field throughout after beginning very awkwardly. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no abnormalities.
 
BOUGATSA – Slowly away after beginning awkwardly. Had to be checked near the 950m when a runner to the outside shifted in abruptly.
 
SMARTY LEE – Jockey G Kliese reported that when commencing to over-race passing the 1000m, the bit shifted in the gelding’s mouth resulting in it racing very ungenerously and being extremely difficult to control for the remainder of the race. Took no competitive part in the race over the concluding stages. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no abnormalities. Trainer R Chillemi advised that he will implement a gear change prior to next start.
 
OUR BOY BRETT – Shifted in abruptly near the 950m to avoid the heels of another runner which was racing very ungenerously.
 
LOVE ON SUNDAY – Hung in momentarily approaching the 900m crowding a runner a runner to its inside which was racing very ungenerously. Jockey S Wilson was fined the sum of $300 under the provisions of AR132(5) in that he used to his whip on 15 occasions in running. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed the gelding to have sustained lacerations to both hind legs consistent with having been galloped on in running.
 
SEDGEMORE – Raced wide for the majority.
 
BELFAST LASS – Raced wide for the majority.
 
SPLASH OF PAINT – Raced wide without cover for the majority. A post-race veterinary examination revealed evidence of shinsoreness. Trainer P Rowe was advised that the mare would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
SARANDOS – Jockey R Wiggins reported that despite his efforts the gelding failed to respond to his riding in the home straight and that in his opinion, would be better suited to racing over shorter distances.
 
Race 3. LOGISTICS NQ OPEN HANDICAP 1200m
 
LET’S GO BOBBY – Shifted out on jumping bumping with a runner to its outside.
 
BERNIE’S TIGER – Began awkwardly bumping with a runner to its inside.
 
LOVE IS BLIND – Shifted in on jumping.
 
I DREAM OF GREEN – Raced keenly in the middle stages.
 
Race 4. SOUNDS OF ROCK MAY 21st MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200m
 
DANGER ONE – Approaching the 1000m  brushed the running rail and had to be restrained when crowded by a runner to its outside. Commenced to over-race after being crossed near the 900m and raced ungenerously for some distance thereafter when the pace slackened.
 
GRISHAM – Laid in near the 1000m crowding a runner its inside.
 
VICTORY FOR US – At the 1000m was checked off the heels of a runner which was being restrained. Shifted in under pressure approaching the winning post.
 
SUNNY EKCELS – Restrained off the heels of another runner near the 950m and commenced to race ungenerously for a short distance thereafter.
 
TINY TIARA – Jockey W D’Avila was fined the sum of $300 under the provisions of AR132(5) in that he used his whip 16 occasions in running. Trainer C McCann was advised of her obligations under the provisions of AR100(1)(a) to advise Stewards of any change of tactics.
 
Race 5. NEIGHBOURHOOD PRODUCTIONS QTIS 3YO HANDICAP 1300m
 
DUTTON BRANDED – Shifted out on jumping bumping with a runner to its outside. Near the 1250m was forced inwards by a runner to its outside. Was forced to momentarily restrain passing the 1100m when a runner to its outside shifted in. Over-raced in the middle stages.
 
LIGHTEMUP JERRY – Near the 1250m was inconvenienced when a runner to its outside shifted in. Raced in restricted room passing the 1100m.
 
SPIRIT MEISTER – Shifted in on jumping bumping with another runner. Apprentice K Swaffer was severely reprimanded for careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that passing the 1100m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear to do so.
 
HALLSIDE HAMMER – Shifted out on jumping bumping with another runner. Tired noticeably over the concluding stages. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no abnormalities. Trainer L Gordy advised that HALLSIDE HAMMER had come to the end of its preparation and it is his intention to turn the gelding out for an immediate spell.
 
SANTA MARINELLA – Near the 1250m was inconvenienced when tightened between runners. Raced wide for the majority.
 
IT’S A PLOY – Jockey B Thomson reported that the gelding was inclined to hang out from the 1000m. Trainer B Baker was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners.
 
BOOMED – Passing the 1250m was severely checked off heels.
 
HALLSIDE HAMMER – Restrained off heels passing the 1100m.
 
Jockey C Spry pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that near the 1250m he permitted HALLSIDE HAMMER to shift in onto the running of DUTTON BRANDED (R Wiggins) which was forced inwards tightening the running of LIGHTEMUP JERRY (W D’Avila) which was, in turn, taken in onto the running of BOOMED (S Wilson), resulting in that runner being forced in onto the heels of IT’S A PLOY (B Thomson) and having to be severely checked. Jockey Spry’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence 31st January, 2022 up to and including 7th February, 2022. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Spry’s outstanding record in relation to the rule over a long period of time and his admission of guilt.
 
Race 6. TAB VENUE MODE QTIS 3YO MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000m
 
GUAPO – Began awkwardly.
 
AKOYA GEM – Slowly away becoming unbalanced after being bumped by a runner to its outside which shifted in.
 
FALVELON DELIGHT – Shifted in on jumping bumping with a runner to its inside. Raced wide for the majority.
 
IMPEACHER – Shifted in on jumping bumping with a runner to its inside. Raced wide for the majority.
 
RISK IN ROME – Became unbalanced shortly after jumping when a runner to its outside shifted in. Raced wide for the majority. Trainer C Attard was fined the sum of $100 under the provisions of LR67(1) for the late declaration of Jockey F Edwards.
 
ROTHERO ESSGEE – Shifted out on jumping tightening a runner to its outside.
 
WITTSTOCK – Slowly into stride after being tightened between runners.
 
WELL CHARRED – Severely checked near the 750m.
 
BUCKSKIN FOR A BUCK – The filly, which was having its 1st race start was unable to muster pace in the early stages and was unable to maintain touch with the body of the field. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no abnormalities.
 
Jockey C Spry pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that near the 750m he directed GUAPO inwards across the running of AKOYA GEM (L McCoy) when insufficiently clear to do so, resulting in that runner shifting out to avoid the heels of GUAPO and severely checking the running of WELL CHARRED (B Thomson). ROTHERO ESSGEE (D Smith), DIVINE JAZZ (W D’Avila) and RISK IN ROME (F Edwards) were also inconvenienced in this incident. Jockey Spry’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days to commence 31st January 2022 up to and including 8th February 2022 (to be served concurrently with a previous suspension incurred in Race 5). In considering penalty Stewards took into consideration Jockey Spry’s previously outstanding record in relation to the rule over a long period of time and his admission of guilt.
 
Race 7. TRAVEL ASSOCIATES CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1000m
 
FAMILY STAR – Fractious in the barrier.
 
TACTICAL ILLUSION – Shifted out on jumping bumping with another runner. Jockey R Wiggins advised that he felt something may have been amiss with the gelding and subsequently elected to ease it down over the concluding stages. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no abnormalities. Trainer M McGuire undertook to advise Stewards should any condition which may have had a bearing on the performance become evident in coming days.
 
THERESABEARINTHERE – Shifted in on jumping bumping with another runner.
 
JUST A LOVE SONG – Began very awkwardly. Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
 
TATACHILLA – Slow to muster pace in the early stages.
 
DAWN TOO GOOD – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
 
ENDORSE – Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
