QUEENSLAND RACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOWNSVILLE RACE CLUB TUESDAY 1 NOVEMBER 2022 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – GOOD (4) RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – D GriffithsStewards – C BewClerk of Scales – C SearleJudge – S NosworthyVeterinarian – Dr D Viero Swab Attendant – Dr D VieroStarter – J McIntosch Supplementary: The following horses which had all raced in the preceding seven days were inspected by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to start. Race 1 – MISHANI REBOUND Race 3- SERENTA, SUNNY EKCELS Race 4 – ASHTON BLAIR RACE 5- HARALBEN, SOGNI RACE 5 – TINY TIARA which was resuming from a spell was inspected pre-race and passed fit to start. General: RACE 3 -YUGOSPHERE and VIKING CLAP were both late scratching’s at 12.40 p.m. when no rider was available. Race 1: QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1200m. MISSION ESTATE: After leading, the gelding compounded over the final 300 metre.Jockey C Spry was questioned regarding the poor performance of MISSION ESTATEand advised that the gelding had travelled comfortably till the home turn andthen compounded quickly when placed under pressure. A Post Race veterinaryexamination revealed the gelding to be in respiratory distress. Trainer Ms S Acornley notified Stewards on 2 November 2022, that MISSION ESTATE hadswelling in the offside front knee and that she would be sending the gelding for furtherVeterinary scans, MISSION ESTATE will be stood down from racing until a VeterinaryCertificate of fitness is provided. FREDDY BARBAROSSA: Slow to begin. Race 2: MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200m Jockey K Hocking (JEAN LAFITTE) was questioned as to the reason he arrived late on courseto fulfil his engagement in this race. Stewards accepted his explanation and took nofurther action. JEAN LAFITTE jumped awkwardly. THE VIRUS raced wide in the early stages. YARRA SPIRIT was slow to begin. Race 3: BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1200m Jockey S Sheargold was fined $400 AR127(1) for accepting rides on GIORDANO and YUGOSPHERE which was later scratched due to no rider being available.Given that Jockey Sheargold had breached this rule on two recent previous occasions, Stewards advised him that should this occur again in the near future that a suspension of his Jockeys licence to ride in races will be considered. The start was delayed due to SMARTY LEE having the cross over nose band readjusted. READY MISTER MUSIC missed the start. SMARTY LEE – Caught wide throughout the event MAN O’ROSS - Was slow to begin. Jockey F Edwards – HIGHER LOVE- was reprimanded under AR211(2) in relation to weighing in 0.5 kg over his allocated weight. In considering the matter Stewards considered the extreme humid conditions that prevailed. FINAL WARNING – Jumped in at the start hampering MAN O” ROSS and SERENATA.Raced wide for the majority of the event. SERENATA – Raced wide throughout. Race 4: OPEN HANDICAP 1000m CAT IN THE RAIN – Jumped outwards at the start and then raced wide. Race 5: RATINGS BAND 0-65 HANDICAP 1000m ASHERLA - Slow to begin and then raced extremely wide for the event. TINY TIARA – Slow to begin. HARALBEN raced ungenerously and hung out under pressure over the concluding stages SUPPOSEDLY WICKED – Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed the gelding to be suffering irritation from dirt particles in the eye.
