WEATHER – RAIN         TRACK RATING – RACES 1 (SOFT 5). RACES 2-6 (SOFT 6), RACES 7-8 (SOFT 7) , RACE 9 (HEAVY 8)

GENERAL
 
Race 2 - Trainer P Cullen advised that Craicaro hadsustained a small laceration to the bridge of the filly’s nose after becoming agitated at his off-course stables on the evening of 12 January 2023 due to storm activity.  When the filly arrived at the track, Craicaro was inspected by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and was passed fit to race.
 
 
Race 1: HAWAIIAN FRIDAY Maiden Handicap 1300 metres
 
Enuff Gold - Commence to hang out and race ungenerously from the 800 metres. Ran extremely wide making the home turn. Trainer Ms B Thomson and Jockey F Edwards were questioned regarding the performance of the gelding. Trainer B Thomson advised that Enuff Gold was having its first start for her stable since transferring from Victoria and in her opinion had not yet adapted to the reverse way of going. Jockey Edwards stated that he had ridden the gelding in its pre-race trackwork and that Enuff Gold tended to hang out when working clockwise on the sand track. He further advised that Enuff Gold was never travelling comfortably throughout the race. The explanation of Trainer B Thomson and Jockey F Edwards were noted; however, Trainer Ms B Thomson was advised that Enuff Gold will be required to trial before being permitted to race again. Enuff Gold was sent for a post-race swab.
 
Lord Prophet- Slow to begin.
 
Fine Impact – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Fine Impact had dirt from kickback in both eyes.
 
Following this race, the track was downgraded to a “SOFT 6” due to ongoing showers.
 
 
Race 2: HYGAIN QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1000 metres
 
The Manipulator – Slow to begin. Hung in and heavily struck the running rail at the 400 metres losing ground.
 
Just Jonesy- Raced three wide throughout and became unbalanced on straightening at the 400 metres.
 
Craicaro - Slow to begin losing considerable ground and veered out sharply shortly after jumping. Craicaro was having its first race start and Trainer P Cullen was advised that a warning was issued.
 
Gabby's Ready - Raced three wide throughout without cover.
 
 
Race 3: BROWN BROTHERS QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap 1000 metres
 
Fodor- After being marginally slow to begin, Fodor crossed from a wide barrier and at the 950 metres collided with Freddy Barbarossa. Fodor was further steadied shortly after off the heels of Baby Guinness which had shifted out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Fodor had sustained dirt from kickback in both eyes.
 
Glamborgini – Jumped out at the start and contacted another runner and became unbalanced before shifting inwardschecking Adaminaby. 
 
Artie's Lad – Jumped inwards checking Freddy Barbarossa at the start.
 
Freddy Barbarossa – Checked on jumping. On straightening commenced to hang out requiring Jockey P Spry to change the whip over to his left hand to straighten the gelding.
 
Baby Guinness – A post-race veterinary examination of Baby Guinness which raced disappointingly revealed no abnormalities. Stable representative M Haley advised that Trainer L Hatch will be having blood tests taken from the filly in coming days to determine any plans for the filly’s preparation.
 
Adaminaby – Checked at start by another runner. Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 4: TRACKSIDE PHOTOGRAPHY RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap 1200 metres
 
Anselmo – Slow to begin. Jockey L Morrison was questioned regarding the riding tactics she adopted on the gelding.
Jockey Morrison stated that after Anselmo had missed the start, she elected to ride forward and attempt to gain a position with cover however was caught in a three wide position. Jockey Morrison stated that Anselmo had been freshened up for the race and was dropping back in distance from the geldings previous 1400 metres start to 1200 metres in this event. In the opinion of Jockey L Morrison, Anselmo is best suited over 1400 metres, or 1600 metres and post-race she had advised Trainer T Clive of this. The explanation of Jockey L Morrison was noted.
 
Mach Seven- Raced wide for the majority without cover.
 
Foreverede – Was fractious in the barriers.
 
Cat In The Raine – Trainer D Amos was questioned regarding the improved performance of the mare in winning todays event in comparison to the previous start in Mackay on 6 January 2022 when finishing in 12th position. Trainer D Amos advised that Cat In The Raine has won previously on both soft and heavy rated tracks and was better suited by todays track condition. He stated that at the mare’s previous start she had been hampered in running mid race and had got back in the field. He advised that the mare performs best when ridden just off the pace and that he had instructed todays rider, Jockey N Thomas, to ride the mare accordingly. The explanation of Trainer D Amos was noted.
 
Serenata – Slow into stride.
 
 
Race 5: CLUDEN PARK MEMBERSHIPS AVAILABLE RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap 1200 metres
 
Broadwater – Collided with another running on jumping.
 
Alita – Jumped inwards and collided with Broadwater at the start.Raced three wide throughout. Cast an offside rear plate in running.
 
Prince Shuvee - Jumped inwards at the start colliding with Lightheadedness.
 
Well Charred – The saddle of Well Charred shifted back from the 600 metres placing Jockey S Sheargold at an extreme disadvantage.
 
Lightheadedness – Tightened for room at the start by Prince Shuvee which jumped inwards.
 
Glorious Express – Hung out when placed under pressure over the final 350 metres.
 
 
Race 6: CARLTON & UNITED BREWERIES OPEN Handicap 1300 metres
 
Muiron – Finished a considerable distance behind the remainder of the field and was examined by the Club Veterinary Surgeon who reported no abnormalities. Trainer D Reynolds advised that he would restrict the gelding to racing at Country tracks until its form improved.
 
Break My Stride – Slow to begin.
 
Buster Block – Apprentice K Swaffer dropped her whip at the 200 metres.
 
Due to ongoing rain the track rating was downgraded following this event to “SOFT 7”.
 
 
Race 7: MITAVITE BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 1400 metres
 
Journey Of Song – Raced 3 wide from the 1000 metres until the 400 metres and forced wider thereafter.
 
Picton – Overraced in the early and middle stages.
 
Race 8: TAB Class 6 Plate 1000 metres
 
This race was run in torrential rain.
 
Raise Da Vibration, Travers, Ruby July, Rigel and Theresabearinthere- All raced wide throughout.
 
Splendarama – Slow to begin.
 
Following this event, several jockeys reported that due to the heavy rain that there vision was badly impaired. As rain had now eased, jockeys for the final race weighed out and Stewards deemed conditions safe for the final event to be run. The track rating was further downgraded to a “HEAVY 8”. 
 
Race 9: NEXT RACEDAY SATURDAY 21 JANUARY BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1609 metres
 
Breakdance (NZ) – When under pressure shifted out marginally and brushed Arise My Son at the 300 metres.
 
Fingertips – Raced wide throughout.
 
Conquering Judas - Raced wide throughout.
 
Side Hustle – Reared as the barriers opened and was slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority and tired over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
