On 16 January 2023, Stewards contacted Trainer L Hatch who was not on course on 13 January 2023 regarding the disappointing performance and he advised that the gelding had reached the end of its preparation and would be immediately spelled. GENERALFollowing a further track inspection at 12.25 p.m. the track was upgraded from a Soft (5) to Good (4). Race 1: CARLTON & UNITED BREWERIES BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 1000 metresTears To Glory (NZ) – Had not raced since 22 December 2020 and was inspected by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to start. Race wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination of Tears To Glory (NZ) identified the presence of blood in both nostrils. Tears To Glory (NZ) shall not without the permission of the Stewards: (a) be trained, exercised, or galloped on any racecourse for a period of two months; (b) start in any race for a period of three months, and then only after a satisfactory gallop of at least 1,000 metres in the presence of a Steward. AR79(4).Validar - Raced wide throughout.Inner Spirit - Slow to begin and commenced to overrace at the 900 metres and had to steadied off the heels of Bones.Fudging – Jumped in and bumped Light Field at the start.Light Field – Lost ground at the start when bumped by another runner.Strathcona – Raced wide without cover.Glorious Express – Was held up for clear running and unable to improve between the 400 metres and the 100 metres. Hampered at the 100 metres when Bones shifted in.Bones – Failed to secure a clear run in the straight. Shifted in at the 100 metres when blocked for a run.Rugged Roy - Had not raced since 24 December 2020 and was inspected by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to start. Raced wide throughout.Race 2: HYGAIN Class 6 Plate 1400 metresHell Of A Boy – Overraced in the middle stages.Sea Echo - Jockey P Romeo was reprimanded for use of the whip on seven occasions prior to the 100m. AR132(7)(a)(ii). Race 3: BROWN BROTHERS Maiden Plate 1200 metresThe starting time of this race was amended to 3.02 p.m.Mango Tango Wine – Tightened for room on jumping. Approaching the 100 metres Mango Tango Wine which was being ridden with the whip shifted in and checked Paparazzi Rocket. Apprentice Ms I Teh (Mango Tango Wine) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that she allowed her mount to shift in when not clear of Paparazzi Rocket. Apprentice Jockey I Teh’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence 30 January 2023 and expire midnight 6 February 2023.Mishani Patriot- Raced wide with cover.Sea Stitch – Raced wide without cover.Jester Statement - Raced wide with cover.Paparazzi Rocket – Tightened for room on jumping. Checked at the 100 metres.Talk Crazy – Cast a near fore front plate at the 950 metres.Race 4: MITAVITE OPEN Handicap 1000 metresThe starting time of this race was originally amended to 3.41 p.m.Following an injury to Apprentice N Seymour that required a second Ambulance to be called, this race was rescheduled to 4.22 p.m.Wit – As Wit entered the parade ring the mare was mounted by Apprentice N Seymour and immediately commenced to reverse at speed. Wit then reared over backwards, crashing through the Jockey enclosure fencing before falling directly on top of Apprentice N Seymour. Wit was then recaptured a short time later. Jockey N Seymour was attended to by Ambulance Officers and taken to the Townsville Hospital for further observations. Wit was inspected by the Club Veterinary Surgeon after this incident and had suffered bruising and contusions to the poll and legs. Wit was treated by the Veterinarian. Wit will be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before being permitted to race again and a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness will also need to be obtained.Following the late scratching of Wit at 3.40 p.m. All monies invested on Wit were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and 2nd placegetter prior to the withdrawal were:18 cents in the dollar for the win Higher Realm16 cents in the dollar for the place of winner Higher Realm 18 cents in the dollar for 2nd place Lily of The Glen No third Dividend.Music Scene – Brushed the rail at the 250 metres.Race 5: TAB QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1000 metres The amended time of this race was notified – 5.01 p.m.Razzo – Raced wide.Borgov – Jumped awkwardly in onto Mersey Girl which then shifted in hampering Redavni. Race wide thereafter.Conquered Journey – After competing in Race 4 Jockey C Spry advised that he was unwell and unable to fulfill this engagement. He was replaced by Apprentice K Swaffer when no other senior rider was available that could make the allocated weight. Jockey Spry will be required to provide Stewards with a medical clearance before being permitted to ride again. Raced wide.Simply Beans – Trainer F Wieland was fined $100 for presenting the filly to race without the approved gear (Blinkers). AR.106 (1).Getonthedragon- A warning was issued to Trainer L Hatch regarding the gelding being difficult to load, delaying the start. Raced wide. Redavni – Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages. At the 100 metres when struck with the whip Redavni shifted in requiring Jockey C Whiteley to stop riding and straighten the filly.Tycoon Cindy – Jumped out and collided with Redavni at the start.Winning Ruby – Race wide and then commenced to hang out from the 600 metres and lost considerable ground. Winning Ruby will be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before being permitted to race again.Mersey Girl- Trainer G Holt was fined $100 for presenting the filly to race without the approved gear (Tongue Tie). AR.106 (1). Raced wide.Runaway Kiss – Raced wide to the 400 metres.Race 6: NEXT RACEDAY SUNDAY 29 JANUARY Class 3 Handicap 1300 metresNebaraz – Held up and unable to improve between the 400 metres and 300 metres.Smarty Lee – Jumped inwards at the start.Cunnamulla – Raced wide throughout.Dynamic Artist – Crowded for room on jumping by Smarty Lee which shifted in.Anselmo – Trainer T Clive advised that Anselmo was ridden forward and caught wide at its previous start and he would be instructing Jockey L Morrison from the wide barrier to ride the gelding back in the field. The gelding was ridden to these instructions.
