QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOWNSVILLE TURF CLUB TOWNSVILLE – FRIDAY 3 FEBRUARY 2023 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – SOFT (5)RAIL – +6m 1000m-W/Post, +3.5m remainder OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – D GriffithsStewards – K Daly, P Warren, C BewClerk of Scales – C SearleJudge – S NosworthyVeterinarian – Dr D VieroSwab Attendants – A LeeStarter – J Cullen GENERAL Stewards approved the following overweight;R5 J Stanley +1.0kg Race 5 – Following the running of this race, a hydraulic problem on the barriers resulted in them being unable to be moved. Repairs were conducted and the barriers were removed from the track. The second set of Club Barrier Stalls were used for the remainder of the meeting. Race 1: CLUDEN PARK Maiden Handicap 1200 metres Enuff Gold – Hampered on jumping. Mango Tango Wine – Broke through the barriers after being loaded and was immediately restrained by Jockey A Layt who had been dislodged but able to maintain control of the gelding. Mango Tango Wine was inspected by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to start. Trainer M McGuire was advised that a warning was issued concerning the gelding’s barrier behaviour. Jumped out at the start hampering Enuff Gold. Commenced to overrace at the 1000 meters. Cast an off-fore plate in running. Spanish Beans – Cast an offside hind plate during the event. Guys' Preference (NZ) – Cast an offside plate in running. After compounding over the final 400 meters, the filly was inspected by theClub Veterinary Surgeon post-race and no abnormalities were identified. Deep Thrillz – Hampered at the 700 meters. Race wide throughout. Little Ivy – Commenced to overrace from the 1000 metres. Improved onto the heels of Spanish Beans at the 700 metres and shifted out hampering Deep Thrillz and Guy’s Preference (NZ) which also shifted wide. A post- race veterinary examination of Little Ivy revealed no abnormalities. Race 2: TAB BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1400 metres Salsa Dreaming – Jumped in at the start hampering Bil Colyns. Victory For Us – Cast a near fore plate in running. Bil Colyns – Tightened at the start. Commence to overrace from the 1200 metres to the 950 metres. Steadied momentarily at the 1000 metres when crossed by Salsa Dreaming. Forseti – Slow to begin. Race 3: CARLTON & UNITED BREWERIES Class 6 Plate 1400 metres Breakdance (NZ) – Returned to scale lame in the off foreleg. A post-race veterinary examination revealed ligament damage in the off foreleg that required veterinary treatment. Trainer S Royes advised that Breakdance (NZ) will now be retired. Fingertips – Slow into stride. Pluckercarn – Apprentice J Edwards was questioned regarding the riding tactics she adopted on the gelding in particular her reasons for leading in comparison to the usual racing pattern for the gelding, back in the field. Pluckercarn hadbegun better than expected and Apprentice J Edwards stated that she thenelected to lead on the gelding. Apprentice Edwards advised that Pluckercarn did not settle in front and commenced to concede ground sharply over the final 200 metres.The explanation ofApprentice J Edwards was noted. It was noted that Pluckercarn commenced to overrace from the 1100 metres. Zipspur – Stood flat footed in the barriers when the start was affected losing considerable ground. Trainer Josh Manzelmann was advised that he will be required to obtain a barrier certificate for Zipspur before the gelding starts again. Magnetic Drive – Commenced to overrace from the 1100 metres to the 900 metres. Race 4: MITAVITE Class 3 Handicap 1300 metres Kick On Command – On returning to scale and dismounting Jockey A Butler was suffering fatigue. Jockey A. Butler was attended to by Ambulance Officers who advised that he was fit to continue riding at the meeting. Coco Cuber – Bumped at the start by Dubai Eagle which had jumped inwards. Le Rubis – Raced three wide and refused to settle in the early and middle stages. Overraced between the 1200 metres and 900 metres and was allowed to stride forward in an attempt to settle the mare. Dubai Eagle – Jumped inwards and brushed another runner at the start. Bold Zip – Slow to begin. Ran wide making the home turn. Race 5: HYGAIN OPEN Handicap 1200 metres Isis Carmella- Jumped awkwardly thenchecked at the start by another runner that jumped in. Hit Snooze – Jumped inwards at the start and checked Isis Carmella. Commenced to overrace from the 1100 metres to the 900 metres. Such A Whit – Slow to begin. Made the home turn awkwardly and continued to hang out over the final 400 metres. Ashton Blair – Approaching the 350 metres Ashton Blair had to be steadied off the heels of Kefalonia when attempting to improve. Race 6: BROWN BROTHERS QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1000 metres Razzo – When behind the barriers Razzo was inspected by the Club Veterinary Surgeon pre race and passed fit to start. Raced wide throughout. Harlow Queen – Jockey A Butler could not make the weight and was replaced by Jockey J Murphy. Jockey A Butler was fined $200 under the provisions of AR190(3).Harlow Queen was steadied at the 100 metres when another runner to the inside shifted ground. Minokawa – Jumped awkwardly. The near side winker dislodged at the 450 metres. Bumped another runner on straightening. Had to be steadied off the heels of Harlow Queen at the 400 metres when being eased wider on the track to obtain clear running. Mishani Platinum – Jumped inwards hampering runners to the inside. Steadied off heels at the 1000 metres. Runaway Kiss – Checked at the start by Minokawa which jumped out. Mishani Jet was then taken in onto Runaway Kiss by Mishani Platinum which had jumped inwards. Getonthedragon – Fractious behind the barriers and was difficult to load. Slow into stride. Shifted out abruptly at the 200 meters when struck with the whip. Mishani Jet – Hampered on jumping. Noise Works – Raced wide throughout. Mersey Girl – Became momentarily unbalanced at the 300 meters when rider P Romeo gathered up his reins. Shifted out under the whip over the concluding stages. Harlow Queen had to be momentarily steadied at the 100 metres consequently. Jockey P Romeo was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) and advised in similar circumstances to stop riding and straighten his mount. Race 7: TRACKSIDE PHOTOGRAPHY Class 4 Handicap 1000 metres Vaporizing – Trainer J Hassett advised Stewards that Vaporizing would be ridden off the pace given it was dropping back in distance in this event. The gelding was ridden accordingly. Jumped out at the start colliding with Sound of Sleat which also had begun awkwardly. Raced wide. Inner Spirit – Slow into stride and raced wide. Fudging – Raced wide throughout. Count Of Carford – Slow to begin. Held up and unable to improve until the 250 metres. Shifted out at the 150 metres and hampered Anniemariah. Jockey N Day (Count of Carford) was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) and advised in similar circumstances to stop riding and straighten his mount immediately. Strathcona – Steadied momentarily off heels at the 900 metres.Held up for clear running until the 200 metres. Anniemariah – Hampered at the 150 metres when another runner shifted ground. Sound Of Sleat – Jumped awkwardly and contacted another runner. Raced wide. Rugged Roy – Raced wide. Race 8: NEXT RACE MEETING SATURDAY 11 FEBRUARY Class 1 Handicap 1000 metres Air Blue – Jumped awkwardly and shifted in and bumped Heroic Rise shortly after. Annakuri – Commenced to hang out from the 850 metres to the 600 metres. Again, hung out sharply at the 550 metres and had to be steadied. Jockey J Stanley was questioned regarding the riding tactics he adopted on the gelding over the final 400 metres in particular the amount of vigour he displayed. Jockey Stanley advised that Annakuri had hung out for much of the race and that on straightening he obtained clear running. He advised that due to Annakuri wanting to hang out he was forced to swap the whip over to his left hand at the 200 metres to straighten the gelding and that it’s run had finished at the 100 metres and it was unable to improve. Trainer S Quigley advised that he was confident of the chances of Annakuri and had supported the gelding. The explanation of Jockey J Stanley and Trainer S Quigley were noted. Dynamic Artist – Slow to begin. Mission House – Slow into stride. Raced wide. Heroic Rose – Bumped by another runner shortly after the start. Isshegrey – Raced wide. Well Charred – Raced wide.
