QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOWNSVILLE TURF CLUB TOWNSVILLE – SATURDAY 11 FEBRUARY 2023 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Good (4) RAIL – +8m 1000m-W/Post; +3.5m Remainder OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – D GriffithsStewards – P Gillard, P Warren, C Bew, S Coulthard (Cadet)Clerk of Scales – G DohertyJudge – S NosworthyVeterinarian – Dr D VieroSwab Attendants – A LeeStarter – J Cullen GENERAL The track was upgraded at 10.00 a.m. on 11 February 2023 from a Soft (5) to Good (4). The Stewards permitted the following overweight;Race 4 – S Sheargold +0.5 Race 1: MAGIC MILLIONS GOLD COAST MARCH 20-21 Maiden Plate 1000 metres Harmonic Boom - Shifted out under pressure over the final 250 metres. Verdansk – Jumped awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Deep Thrillz – Hampered on jumping.Raced wide with cover. Robbery Lass – Hampered at the start. Having its first race start and finished a considerable distance behind the remainder of the field. Was inspected by the Club Veterinary Surgeon who reported that no abnormalities were found. Robbery Lass was stood down from racing at TAB meetings until the filly is competitive. Calsandria – When leading overraced in the middle stages. Head Bee – Approaching the home turn, the bit slipped through the mouth of the filly resulting in Head Bee losing ground sharply and racing ungenerously in the home straight. Miss Starlette - Jumped awkwardly and shifted out hampering Deep Thrillz which was taken out onto Robbery Lass. Race 2: CHEERS TO 40 LUKE PAYNE OPEN Handicap 1000 metres Higher Realm – Held up for clear running and unable to improve from the 400 metres to the 200 metres. Palencia - Slow to begin. Checked at the 500 metres when another runner shifted in.Held up and unable to improve at the 300 metres. Shifted out at the 250 metres and brushed Raise Da Vibration. Family Star – On returning to scale Jockey J. Stanley reported that the gelding was disappointing, and he felt that Family Star may be showing signs of soreness in the fore legs. A post-race veterinary examination was conducted, and no abnormalities found. Raise Da Vibration – Slow into stride. Shifted in marginally at the 500 metres causing Jockey R Shred (Palencia) to have to check that gelding. Jockey A Layt (Raise Da Vibration) was advised to exercise care in similar situations. Brushed another runner at the 200 metres. Race 3: CARLTON & UNITED BREWERIES BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 1400 metres Ciao Bicky – Bumped Lightheadedness at the 1300 metres. Salsa Dreaming – Finished a considerable distance behind the remainder of the field and was inspected post-race by the Club Veterinary Surgeon who reported no abnormalities. Trainer T Clive advised that the gelding had worked well in the lead up to today’s race and he could not explain the poor performance. Mr Clive was advised not to start Salsa Dreaming until satisfied the gelding would race in the desired manner. A warning was issued in relation to the poor performance. Victory For Us – Jockey G Kliese was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100 metres. Zoomaratta – Reared as the gates opened. Lightheadedness – Between the 1350 metres and the 1000 metres, Lightheadedness commenced to race fiercelywhen restrained when racing in a three wide position. Jockey P Romeo was unable to find cover and allowed the gelding to stride forward and obtained a position behind the leader by the 950 metres. Race 4: TAB Class 2 Handicap 1200 metres Castile – Shifted out to improve making the home turn forcing Sirianni, Swahili Mai and Perfect Quality wide. Hampered at the 100 metres and forced wider due to Air Blue and Whispering Tycoon to the inside shifting out. Consequently, Jockey J Stanley (Castile) was unable to fully test his mount to the finish. Perfect Quality – Jumped awkwardly and bushed another runner.Forced wide on the home turn. Whispering Tycoon – Shifted out under hard riding over the final 100 metres. Air Blue - Shifted ground outwards under pressure over the final 100 metres Sirianni – Raced wide until the 800 metres. Forced wide on the home turn. Eased on two occasions over the final 150 metres when racing on the heels of Castile which had been forced wider. Swahili Mai - Forced wide on the home turn. Dawn Strike – Jumped in at the start and brushed Perfect Quality. Raced three wide without cover. Ginger Mule – Overraced and hung out for most of the event. Trainer S Seymour was advised that a warning was issued. Race 5: MITAVITE RATINGS BAND 0 - 60 Handicap 1000 metres Proximate Cause - Commenced to overrace making the home turn and had to steadied off the heels of Super Fast. Super Fast – Cast an offside hind plate in running. Allanon – Held up and unable to improve making the home turn. Our Addiction – Jockey G Kliese was questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the gelding. He advised that after leading and having pressure applied Our Addiction failed torun on over the concluding stages. He advised that the gelding races best when leading and in todays event he was not allowed to dictate the speed due to pressure being applied by Super-Fast. The explanation of G Kliese was noted. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no abnormalities. Newitt – Raced three wide for the majority. Winning Saga – Raced three wide for the majority. Bones – Steadied off the heels of Allanon on straightening and had difficulty obtaining clear running at the 300 metres. Again, disappointed for a run between Newitt and Winning Saga at the 100 metres.Bilbao – Between the 500 metres and 400 metres the gelding raced on heels, had to steadied and was unable to improve.
