LeeStarter – J. Cullen SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT Following a report from Cadet Steward S. Coulthard, Stewards opened an inquiry into an incident that occurred following the running of Race 10 at Townsville Turf Club on 28/02/2023 in the tie-ups area. Trainer G Holt was questioned regarding an unlicensed person Mr. D Greenfield being seen to handle a horse under her care. After taking evidence from Mr. A and G Holt and Cadet Steward S. Coulthard, it was established that the unlicensed participant was acting of their own accord by attempting to secure a horse of the Holt stable that had broken it’s tie up. Stewards took no further action in relation to the matter. Mr. D Greenfield will be interviewed at a time and date to be fixed regarding information he supplied to Cadet Steward S. Coulthard when questioned regarding his license status. Trainer D Reynolds was questioned in relation to the scratching of Mycarsabitrusty engaged in race 1. Mr. Reynolds advised that he had withdrawn the horse after considering the strength of the field and believed that as the filly was having her first race start may be better placed in a weaker event. The explanation of D Reynolds was noted. Trainer G. Bell was questioned in relation to the scratching of Farmer’s Friend engaged in race 2. Ms. Bell advised that she had withdrawn the horse after considering other engagement options and had elected to start Farmer’s Friend at Mackay on 13/03/2023. The explanation of G Bell was noted. Trainer G Dickson was questioned in relation to the scratching of Razment engaged in race 2. Mr. Dickson advised that he had withdrawn the horse after acceptances when it had suffered a minor injury in the stable after being cast on the morning of 7 March 2023. The explanation of G Dickson was noted. GENERAL Race 8 – Rugged Boy – Permission was granted for Jockey S Sheargold to ride the gelding 1.0kg over the allocated weight of 54 kg. Race 1: CLUDEN PARK QTIS Two-Years-Old Handicap 1000 metres Roweiner's Dance – Slow into stride. Lucky Jim – Jumped awkwardly and made contact with the hind quarters of Average Jane.Jockey J. Taylor was questioned regarding the disappointing performance and advised that he is of the opinion the colt did not appreciate the softer racing surface today. He also advised that the saddle had shifted back marginally in running. Lucky Jim underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities. Average Jane – Was bumped by Lucky Jim on jumping. Race 2: VALE TERRY BUTTS Class 6 Plate 1000 metres Proximate Cause – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the middle stages. Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages. Vaporizing – Began awkwardly. Race 3: WOMEN IN RACING OPEN Handicap 1400 metres Palencia – Resaddled behind the barriers. Bumped with Mystery ‘N’ Magic on jumping. Mystery 'N' Magic – Slow to begin. Bumped with Palencia on jumping. Zouvilla – Jumped awkwardly. Race 4: HYGAIN Maiden Handicap 1400 metres Jester Statement – Slow into stride. Little Ivy – Jockey P. Romeo was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more time than permitted. Mishani Merlot – Commenced to over race from the 1000m for a short distance. Race 5: CARLTON & UNITED BREWERIES QTIS Three-Years-Old Handicap 1300 metres Adaminaby – Checked when crowded over the final 150 metres. Borgov – Refused to proceed to the barriers. A warning was issued to Trainer F. Wieland regarding the barrier manners of Borgov. Hampered shortly after the start when momentarily placed in restricted room by Mission House which was taken in Mersey Girl. From This Moment – Refused to proceed to the barriers and proved difficult to load. A warning was issued to Trainer M. Geaney regarding the barrier manners of From This Moment. Mission House – Eased at the 1200 metres when crossed by another runner.Hung in on several occasions over the concluding stages resulting in Borgov, Adaminaby and Mersey Girl being checked and placed in restricted room. A warning was issued to the connections of Mission House regarding racing manners for hanging in. Jockey D. Smith was also reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) in that he did not completely stop riding his mount and straighten Mission House in this incident. Runaway Kiss – Compounded from the 600m and finished tailed off. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed an injury to the nearside sesamoid. Trainer G. Holt was advised that she must present a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to Runaway Kiss being permitted to start in a race or trial again. Mersey Girl – JockeyP Romeowas reprimanded under provisions of AR131(a) for causing Borgov and Mission House to race in restricted roomshortly after the start. Noise Works – Forced to race three-wide without cover throughout. Race 6: MITAVITE RATINGS 0 - 55 Handicap 1000 metres Newitt – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination which revealed lameness in the nearside foreleg subsequently Newitt was declared a late scratching at 2:35pm by Stewards acting on Veterinary advice. Due to on-course betting on the event having not yet commenced, no deductions were applicable. Trainer G. Holt was advised that she must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to Newitt being permitted to start in a race or trial again. Whobethatnow – Tightened between runners on jumping. Raced wide throughout. Mishani Rebound – Bumped another runner shortly after the start and became unbalanced momentarily. Raced wide. Splendarama – Began slowly. October Storm – Jumped outwards and brushed another runner at the start. The Lout – The gelding’s tongue tie was re-adjusted behind the barriers. Jockey I. Teh reported that she dropped her whip approaching the 100m. Race 7: BROWN BROTHERS Class 1 Handicap 1200 metres Cooper Gem – Slow to begin. Commenced to over-race from the 1000m and continued to do so for some distance. On the home turn, shifted out to improve and contacted Vienna Cruise forcing that runner wider on the track hampering Star Midfielder. Star Midfielder – Checked wider on the track at the 400 metres when runners to the inside shifted ground. Inclined to hang in down the home straight. Harvesta – Approaching the home turn was momentarily held up and unable to improve. It's A Ploy – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start in the event. Began awkwardly and jumped in making heavy contact with Vienna Cruise. Dynamic Artist – Slow to begin and then hampered shortly after by another runner that shifted in. Leaving the 600m, despite the efforts of its rider, improved to the inside of Cooper Gem and had to be steadied. Vienna Cruise – Was bumped heavily by It’s A Ploy on jumping. Race 8: International Women’s Day Class 3 Handicap 1400 metres Forseti – Held up for clear running at the 400 metres. Bravio – Stood flat footed in the barriers and was slow to begin. A warning was issued to the connections. Swahili Mai – Raced three wide for the majority. Foreverede – Hung in over the concluding stages.
