Race start times amendments. Following advice from the TAB the following race times were amended:Race 1 1:35pmRace 2 2:10pmRace 3 2:45pmRace 4 4:20pmRace 5 3:57pmRace 6 4:35pmRace 7 No change Late Rider Amendments Approved Following a race day injury at Mount Isa on 22 April 2023, Jockey W D’Avilla was unable to fulfill his engagements at today’s meeting and was replaced by the following jockeys:Race 2 Dammosquito -Jockey D’Avilla replaced by Jockey Nathan ThomasRace 3 Play Me Now (NZ) - Jockey D’Avilla replaced by Jockey Jackson MurphyRace 4 Fighting Grisbi - Jockey D’Avilla replaced by Jockey Rachelle ShredRace 5 Blondie’s Secret- Jockey D’Avilla replaced by Jockey Nathan Thomas Race 6 Listen Listen - Jockey D’Avilla replaced by Jockey Denicious Smith Overweight Riders Approved Race 1 No 6 -I’m Famous - A. Layt (+1kg), No 8 - N. Day (+1kg), As Jockey N. Day (Miss Mildred) was unable to make this approved overweight, he was replaced at 12.45 p.m. by Jockey J. Murphy and Stewards ordered that the advertised overweight of 55kg be carried. Race 3 No 5 – Rock “N” Sol - N. Day (+1kg), As Jockey N. Day was unable to make the allotted weight, he was replaced by Apprentice Krysten Swaffer on the proviso Ms Swaffer ride at the pre advertised weight of 55kg. No 7 – Such a Whit - Jockey A. Layt (+1kg). Race 7 No 7 – R. Wiggins- Dr Neigh (+.05kg) Race 1 – Casual and Mishani Eagle which both raced at Cairns on 21 April 2023 were inspected by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to start. Race 4 – Immediately post rider declarations, Stewards approved a late rider of Apprentice I Teh on Chilena due to Jockey C Lennon being indisposed. Race 5 – Trainer M Geaney was questioned regarding the late rider notification on Fanciful Mr Fox. Stewards accepted the explanation tendered. Race 1: HYGAIN QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1200 metres Better Not Fuss - Over-raced in the early stages. Jockey Kliese pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR132(5) in that he used his whip in an excessive manner by striking the gelding 15 times in totality (one more occasion than is permitted) and was issued with a reprimand. Casual - Trainer R. Chillemi was fined $100 for presenting the colt with incorrect gear (AR106 - 2). Mishani Eagle–Declared a late scratching at 12:47 p.m. acting on veterinary advice following the gelding sustaining an injury on route to the course. Trainers T&P Rowe were advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness will be required before Mishani Eagle can race again. Miss Mildred - N.Day was replaced by J. Murphy. Jockey N. Day was fined $200 for failing to make weight- AR190 (3). Miss Mildred wasfractious in barriers. Race 2: MITAVITE BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 1609 metres Ghosted - Jumped awkwardly. Forseti - Slow to begin. He Will Acheev - Trainer Tony Comerford was questioned concerning the riding instructions provided to Apprentice I. Teh and was asked to comment on her tactics. After viewing the Stewards replay Mr Comerford felt she may have erred by not taking a trail behind Dawn Strike in the middle stages and stated He Will Acheev could be difficult to ride. Stewards noted Mr Comford’s explanation. Apprentice I.Teh was questioned in relation to riding tactics she adopted on He Will Acheev particulalry her reasons for failing to attempt to steady the gelding in the early and middle stages and consider easing in behind the leader Dawn Strike to obtain cover. Apprentice Teh advised that after begining well , she was unable to lead and was caught outside of Dawn Strike where she opted to race before being under pressure from the 600 metres. Stewards questioned Apprentice I Teh specifically regarding the amount of pressure she applied to the leader Dawn Strike between the 1200 metres and 600 metres when both horses were racing a considerable distance in front of the bulk of the field. Senior Jockey C Spry when assisting Apprentice I Teh, placed submissions before the Stewards that given the slower than average sectional times run in the early and middle stages that Ms Teh’s tactic were not excessive. After view all Stewards patrol fims, and from the Stewards observations the explanation of Apprentice I Teh was noted however her attention was drawn to –:AR 129 (2) which states -: A rider must take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout the race to ensure that the rider’s horse is given full opportunity to win or to obtain the best possible place in the field. Race 3: VALE ADRIAN KEYS OPEN Handicap 1400 metres Mystery 'N' Magic – Commenced to race fiercely for some distance from the 1100 metres.Rock 'n' Sol – JockeyN. Day was replaced by Apprentice Krysten Swaffer. Jockey N. Day fined $200 for failing to make weight AR190 (3). In assessing this riding change the stewards considered Apprentice K Swaffer’s designated riding weight of 54kg and ordered that she carry the pre-advertised plus 1kg overweight. As no other suitable senior rider was available no weight claim for Apprentice Swaffer was permitted given the late notification. Keighley Sun Over-raced in middle stages. Race 4: BROWN BROTHERS Maiden Handicap 1000 metres Dawn Of Time and Whistle collided on jumping and shortly after both were placed in restricted room when Fighting Grisbi shifted out shortly after the start. Mohs Scale shifted in shortly after the start tightening Whistle. Raced three wide with cover for much of the race. Whistle – Tightened for room at the start. Hanna's Drum – A pre-race vet examination revealed the mare to have swelling in the off foreleg. Hanna's Drum wasdeclared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 2:39pm. A veterinary certificate of fitness will need to be supplied prior to the mare racing again. Risked It - Raced three wide throughout. At the 250m Hypothesize and Chilena were hampered and placed momentarily in restricted room when Risked It shifted in. Jockey Denicious Smith (Risked It) was reprimanded for failing to stop riding and straighten his mount earlier than he did. (AR 131 a) A Cheeky Gift - Raced three wide for the majority. Hypothesize - Hampered at the 250m. Chilena – Crowded for roomat the 250m. Fighting Grisbi - Underwent a pre-race vet examination at 1:50pm and was passed fit to start. Race 5: CLUDEN PARK QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap 1200 metres Don't Tell Leeanne began awkwardly. Commenced to over-race at the 1000m and raced ungenerously until the 800m and consequently Neveten was hampered.Redavni - Commenced to race ungenerously at the 1000m.Shortly after straightening Redavni (R Wiggins) was commencing a forward move and was contacted on the hind quarters by Neveten (L Morrison) which had shifted out to improve. Both horses then became unbalanced in this incident. Following a written complaint to Stewards, from Part Owner Mr C Jorgensen (Redavni) on 25 April 2023 in relation to the riding tactics adopted by Jockey Morrison at that point, an enquiry will be held at a time and date to be fixed. Trainer J Ryan (Redavni), Jockeys R Wiggins, L Morrison and owner Mr C Jorgenson will be interviewed. Spurcific Journey began awkwardly. After passing the 200m had to be steadied when Sub Rosa shifted in. Jockey J. Babarovich (Sub Rosa) was reprimanded for causing this tightening. At the completion of the race Jockey Kliese was dislodged some distance after the winning post and sustained no injury. Spurcific Journey returned to the mounting yard riderless and jumped the outside running rail before being captured. Post-race Spurcific Journey was then examined by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and had suffered no injuries. King's Halo began awkwardly and lost ground. Blondie's Secret was held up and unable to obtain clear running making the home turn and until the 200m. Neveton – Hampered at the 800m. Shifted out to improve on straightening around the heels of Don't Tell Leeanne at the 350 metres contacting the hind quarters of Redavni which became unbalanced for a short distance. Fanciful Mr Fox and Redavni collided on jumping. Fanciful Mr Fox Raced in restricted room from the top of the straight and momentarily disappointed for a run on straightening,. Race 6: CARLTON & UNITED BREWERIES BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 1200 metres Higher Love - Raced three-wide without cover for the majority. Air Blue - Slow to begin and ridden forward to obtain a position outside of the leader. Undoubted - Raced three-wide with cover. Coolmeans (NZ) - Over raced in middle stages. A post-race vet examination revealed laceration to the off-hind hock, and it was treated by the Club Veterinary Surgeon on course. Pluckercarn - Slow to begin. Polhampton – Began only fairly. Prince Akeem Jockey L. Morrison was momentarily disappointed for a run approaching the 200m and shifted back towards the rail to obtain clear running. Listen Listen – Jumped awkwardly. Commenced to over-race from the 800m to the 500m and consequently had to be steadied off heels. Race 7: NEXT RACE MEETING FRIDAY 5 MAY Class 6 Plate1000 metres Loud Noise - Raced wide for the majority without cover. Focus- Blundered as the gates opened. Raise Da Vibration – Jumped awkwardly and thenraced wide for the majority. Dr Neigh - When behind the starting barriers waiting to be loaded, Dr Neigh was spooked when another runner contacted the running rail. Dr Neigh then reared up and dislodged rider R Wiggins and when riderless broke through the inside running rail. The start was delayed when Dr Neigh travelled riderless on the outside of the track until caught by the Clerk of Course. Dr Neigh was not injured in this incident. Dr Neigh was subsequently declared a late scratching at 5.09 p.m. All monies invested on Dr Neigh were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters were: 10cents in the dollar for the winner - Hurtle8 cents in the dollar for the place of winner - Hurtle12 cents in the dollar for 2nd place - Bones8 cents in the dollar for 3rd place -Bakuhatsu Stewards considered some mitigating circumstances and took no further action against Dr Neigh .
