GENERAL
 
Apprentice Jockey M Potgieter provided a medical clearance to ride at today’s meeting due to being involved in a race fall at the Rockhampton Meeting on 19 May 2023.
 
Race 1: MITAVITE QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1000 metres
 
The Wallet - Began awkwardly and checked CYBER JAM
 
All Powered Up- Had to be steadied off the heels of JAZZ WORTHY which shifted out to improve.
 
Moon Missile - Hung out making the home turn and Jockey J Taylor became unbalanced.
 
Cyber Jam – Was having its first race start. A warning was issued to connections due to the Filly being difficult to load.
 Checked on jumping and lost ground.
 
Jazz Worthy - Apprentice I Teh was reprimanded under AR 131  (a) for shifting ground at the 350m causing a tightening to ALL POWERED UP .
 
Track upgraded to a good (4) retrospectively.
 
Race 2: 2 CLUDEN PARK QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1000 metres
 
Elie Joe - Raced greenly over the concluding stages. Shifted out abruptly when struck with the whip at the 180m.
 
Harch Road- Raced three wide without cover.
 
Jeridah - Was slow into stride.
 
Snuggle Bang Yahoo – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground. Hung out making the home turn when under pressure.
 
Decrypting Gold - Raced ungenerously down the straight and raced greenly over the concluding stages.
 
Louie Greystar - Commenced to over race in the middle stages.
 
Mishani Promise - Jumped awkwardly resulting in Jockey L. Morrison becoming unbalanced.
 
Give It The Beans - Reared as the gates open and lost ground.
 
Mishani Cienna - Slow to begin and raced greenly in the home straight.
 
 
Race 3: 3 WINTER RACING CARNIVAL TICKETS ON SALE NOW Maiden Handicap 1000 metres
 
Nonno Joe - Jumped awkward and restrained shortly after to obtain a position closer to the fence.
 
Crowning Moment – Bumped another runner on jumping. Hung out making the home turn forcing Kurobuta to race wider on the track.
 
Millvale - Raced wide throughout and lost ground in the home straight. The gelding was sent for a post-race veterinary examination which found no abnormalities.
 
Trajic Friends – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after contacting the running rail on route to the barriers. Was passed fit to race.  Shifted in abruptly at the 200 metres and hampered A Cheeky Gift. Apprentice Jockey R Wilson (Trajic Friends) was reprimanded for allowing her mount to shift in when not clear and advised to exercise care in similar circumstances. AR131 (a). Raced greenly in the straight.
 
Imperium - Slow to begin.
 
Untold Choice -Very slow into stride.
 
A Cheeky Gift – Hampered at the 200 metres when another runner shifted in.
 
Fighting Grisbi – Disappointed for a run at the 300 metres and shifted wider on the track to obtain same.
 
Kurobuta – Forced wide making the home turn.
 
 
Race 4: LAWRENCE & HANSON CLASSIC PRELUDE QTIS 2-Y-O Handicap 1200 metres
 
Roweiner's Dance – Shifted in abruptly shortly after jumping and hampering runners to the inside.
 
Hey Bull - Slow to begin and cast a near hind plate in running.
 
Mistrey Emperor - Trainer G Green was fined $100 for presenting the gelding to race without the correct nominated gear (Winkers) AR 106 (1).
Mistrey Emperor blundered approaching the winning post because of outside pressure and dislodged Jockey L Tilley. Mistrey Emperor was inspected by the Club Veterinary Surgeon following this incident and no injury was found. Jockey Tilley was treated by the Club Ambulance Officers on course and was unable to complete any further engagements due to a right thumb injury. A medical clearance will be required before Jockey Tilley rides again.
 
Reliable Witness – Checked shortly after the start and lost ground. .
 
Average Jane – Severely checked and fell approaching the finishing line. Jockey L Tilley (Mistrey Emperor) was also dislodged in this incident.   
Apprentice K Quilty (Average Jane) was injured in this incident and required immediate Ambulance attention on track for some time. Apprentice K Quilty was transported to the Townsville General Hospital for further observations.
 
Stewards opened an enquiry into fall and took evidence from the following riders - Apprentice I Teh (Reliable Witness), Jockey L Tilley (Mistrey Emperor) and Jockey J Taylor (Turn Bird).  The Stewards adjourned the matter to a time and date to be fixed to allow evidence to be taken from Apprentice K Quilty (Average Jane).
 
Average Jane was inspected by the Club Veterinary Surgeon following this incident and was found to have suffered a laceration to the near side foreleg and bruising on the near side of the body. A Veterinary Certificate of Fitness will be required before Average Jane again races.
A medical clearance will be required before Apprentice Jockey K Quilty rides again.
 
Craicaro – Jumped fairly and then severely checked and lost ground shortly after the start due to another runner shifting in abruptly.
 
Mishani Perfection – Hung in and raced ungenerously for most of the event.
 
This Girl's Ready – Slow to begin.
 
Following the fall in this race further Ambulances were required to be called to the course , all remaining races were put back in timeframes of one race.
 
The following amended race times were then advertised -:
 
Race 5 – 3:24 p.m.   
Race 6 – 4.04 p.m.
Race 7 – 4.44 p.m.
Race 8 – 5.14 p.m.
Race 9 – 5.42 p.m.
 
Race 5: 5 BROWN BROTHERS RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 Handicap1400 metres
 
Pluckercarn slow to begin. Compounded over the concluding stages and was inspected by the Club Veterinary Surgeon who reported no abnormalities found. Trainer T Clive reported to Stewards on 20 May 2023, that on returning back to his stables post-race that Pluckercarn had a small nasal discharge, and he was of the opinion may be suffering the onset of a viral complaint. He advised that he would be having further blood tests done by his Veterinary Surgeon and would advise of the results. Pluckercarn was stood down from racing until a veterinary certificate of fitness is supplied.
 
Malvagio - Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
Bravio - Slow into stride. Held up and unable to improve until the 300 metres.
 
Little Red Pepper – After riding in the previous event, Apprentice I Teh reported feeling shaken and requested permission to stand down from taking this mount. Stewards consulted with trainer R Schluenz and Apprentice M Potgieter was declared the replacement rider.
 
Apprentice M Potgieter and Trainer R Schluenz were questioned by Stewards in relation to the change of riding tactics adopted on the mare when it was ridden forward from a wide barrier to lead, in comparison to the mares usual racing pattern when ridden back in the field with cover.
 
Trainer R Schluenz advised that she was disappointed that Apprentice M Potgieter had not followed her specific pre-race instructions to ride the horse with cover and back in the field as per usual. Apprentice M Potgieter stated that after Little Red Pepper began well from the outside barrier, that runners to his inside had mustered speed quickly and he was going to be caught wide, thus he elected to ride forward and take the lead. Little Red Pepper gave ground over the concluding stages. The explanations of Apprentice M Potgieter and Trainer R Schluenz were noted however Stewards directed Apprentice M Potgieter that he was to ride to instructions wherever possible in future.
 
Ginasue - Raced three wide for the majority.
 
Race 6: HYGAIN BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1000 metres
 
Hurtle – Apprentice M Potgieter replaced Apprentice K Quilty. Checked at the 120 metres when Dickin Medal shifted out abruptly to improve.
 
Hit Snooze – Jockey F Edwards replaced Jockey L Tilley. Slow into stride and hampered at the 300 metres when another runner shifted out abruptly.
 
Just A Love Song – Shifted out at the 200 metres and checked Greenheart. Starfilly which was trailing had to be steadied off heels consequently.
Apprentice (I Teh) Just A Love Song was reprimanded for allowing her mount to shift ground outwards at that point causing this tightening. AR131 (a)
 
Starfilly – Checked off the heels of Sirfina at the 300 metres and shifted out abruptly hampering Hit Snooze. Hampered at the 200 metres when another runner to the inside shifted out.
 
Xtrayya  - Slow to begin.
 
Agustawynd – Raced wide throughout.
 
No Doubt a Star – Was declared a late scratching at 4.00 p.m. when the gelding refused to progress to the start.
Trainer G Hickmott was advised that No Doubt a Star will not be permitted to race until a satisfactory barrier trial is performed.
 
Following No Doubt a Star being declared a late scratching. All monies invested on No Doubt a Star were ordered to be refunded.
Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to the scratching were subject to the following deductions:
 
1 cents in the dollar for the win Bay of Bengal
1 cents in the dollar for the place of winner Bay of Bengal
1 cents in the dollar for 2nd place Cold Power
1 cents in the dollar for 3rd place Dickin Medal
 
 
Leica Special – Raced wide throughout and commenced to lose ground from the 600 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a seasonal complaint.
 
Dickin Medal - Jockey L Morrison pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that she allowed her mount to shift out abruptly to improve at the 120 metres causing Hurtle (Apprentice M Potgieter) to be checked. Jockey L Morrison’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 12 days to commence 21 May 2023 and expire midnight 1 June 2023.
 
Greenheart (NZ) – Checked at the 200 metres when Just A Love Song shifted out abruptly.
 
Race 7: NORTH EAST EVENT HEALTH SERVICES QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap 1300 metres
 
Redavni - Hung in over the final 250m resulting in Jockey C Whitely having to attempt to straighten the filly.
 
Dominique - Was steadied off the heels of Mr Kobo at the 1150m due to pace related issues.
 
Just Let It Out – Jockey W D’Avilla replaced L Tilley. Just Let It Out was steadied at 1150m off the heels of Sheer Illusion
 
King's Halo – Slow into stride. Held up making the home turn and raced in restricted room between Dominque and Sheer Illusion when passing the 250m.
 
Catch Dis – Following the running of Race 6Jockey Amanda Thompson requested permission to stand down from riding further at today’s meeting for reasons acceptable to Stewards. Nathan Thomas was declared the replacement rider for Amanda Thompson. Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 8: GALLAGHER INSURANCE OPEN Handicap 1300 metres
 
Primal Scream - Raced three-wide without cover for the majority.
 
Tennessee Boy – Was checked and lost ground sharply when racing on the fence at the 950 metres. An enquiry into this matter will be convened at a time and date to be fixed.
 
Zouvilla - Slow into stride and raced wide thereafter.
 
Hell Of A Boy- Fractious in the barriers. Caught three wide with cover.
 
Ashton Blair – Raced wide throughout.
 
Heirborn – Kicked out in the barriers and became entangled. Following a veterinary examination Heirborn  was declared a late scratching at
5:16 p.m. All monies invested on Heirborn were ordered to be refunded.

Race 9: TRACKSIDE PHOTOGRAPHY Class 6 Plate 1400 metres
 
This race was run at 5.42 p.m. in diminishing light at sunset.
 
Siberian Route – Raced three wide for the majority.
 
Higher Love – Held up and unable to improvein the early stages of the straight.
 
Peter The Piper - Raced in restricted room at the 1200 metres and bumped another runner.
 
Vienna Rain – Failed to secure a clear run until the 200 metres.
 
Nemingah (NZ) - Trainer F Wieland was fined $100 for presenting the gelding to race without the correct nominated gear (Blinkers) AR 106 (1)
