SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

From Townsville 29th September
Race 6- YES DREAM -Trainer M. Lee advised that following a veterinary inspection by their stable veterinarian, the stable was happy with the way in which the gelding had pulled up and will now continue on with the current preparation.

GENERAL

Prior to the running of race 1, Stewards upgraded the track to a Good 4.

Stewards accepted the following overweight’s:
Race 5. D. Smith +1.0kg
Race 8. A. Layt +0.5kg



Race 1: LADBROKES YARD COMMENTS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000M

ANSWERING – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event.

HELLSKI – Severely blundered and contacted the running rail passing the 75m dislodging its rider. HELLSKI suffered a catastrophic fracture to the offside fore cannon bone and was euthanised by the veterinary surgeon. Jockey A. Butler was assessed by QAS staff and cleared to ride for the remainder of the meeting.


DISCO ANNIE – Held up from rounding the home turn until approaching the 150m. Passing the 200m, shifted out bumping OUR BENEFIT and became unbalanced momentarily before shifting inwards, contacting HELLSKI.


Race 2: LADBROKES MATES MODE MAIDEN PLATE 1400M

ATOMIC THEORY - Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination having not raced since February 2023 and was passed fit to start. Improved onto the heels of ANOTHER JACK near the winning post and was obliged to be steadied and alter course.

MAZZARATI – Bumped with RISKED IT rounding the home turn.

RISKED IT – Raced three wide without cover for the majority. Bumped with MAZZARATI rounding the home turn.

SUPER TWENTY THREE – Raced keenly in the early stages.

A CHEEKY GIFT – Raced wide for the majority.

CHAMPAGNE TILLY – Began awkwardly.

LAIDE – Held up from the 350m to the 200m. Trainer G. Smith was fined $200 pursuant to AR106(1) for presenting LAIDE to the mounting yard with incorrect gear.

WINNING IN PARIS – Began awkwardly. Upon returning to the mounting enclosure WINNING IN PARIS was found to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer M. Whitehouse was advised under AR79(4) that the mare would be stood from racing for 3 months and must gallop 1000m in the presence of a Steward prior to next racing.


Race 3: LADBROKE IT! OPEN HANDICAP 1000M

Race 3 was delayed due to the late scratching of BAKUHATSU and the subsequent injury to jockey P. Romeo. All races were put back one race with an amended starting time of 5:00PM for Race 8.

SILENT EXPLORER – Trainer S. Massingham was reprimanded pursuant to AR194 for presenting SILENT EXPLORER late to the mounting yard.

BONES – In the vicinity of the 350m, was momentarily disappointed for a run before improving into a position on the rail inside SILENT EXPLORER.

TARA JASMINE – Slow into stride. Approaching the 400m improved onto the heels of GAMBOA and elected to shift out to gain clear running. Laid in under pressure in the straight.

BOLD TYPE – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the straight.

GAMBOA – Laid out under pressure in the straight.
BAHUKATSU – BAKUHATSU was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 1:24PM after rearing in the mounting yard dislodging jockey P. Romeo. Stewards ordered that all bets on BAKUHATSU be refunded with the following deductions to apply:

1st TARA JASMINE 4c win, 9c place
2nd BONES 5c place
3rd Not Applicable

Trainer J. Hassett was advised that BAKUHATSU must now complete an official trial satisfactorily prior to racing again.

Jockey P. Romeo suffered a collarbone injury and was transported to hospital for further observations. Jockey P. Romeo will require a medical clearance prior to riding again. The rider changes were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.


Race 4: BROWN BROTHERS RATINGS BAND 0-55 HANDICAP 1000M

BOOMED – Held up from rounding the home turn up until the 250m.

WHEY MISCHIEF – Contacted upon jumping and was taken in by MISS DAURIAN onto RUGGED ROY. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Upon returning to the mounting yard, rider R. Wiggins was dislodged. Jockey Wiggins was attended to by QAS staff and cleared to ride for the remainder of the day.

TACTICAL ILLUSION – Raced wide for the majority.

GUAPO – Raced wide for the majority.

MURUNGAL- Began awkwardly and had to be restrained off heels when ZAPLUCK shifted in. Commenced to over-race in the early stages. Held up from the 350m until the 200m.

ARROGANT HEART – As jockey P. Romeo was indisposed, he was replaced by jockey A. Sewell. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

MAKE IT HAPPEN – Passing the 250m, attempted a tight run between TACTICAL ILLUSION and ZAPLUCK and was obliged to be restrained and alter course to the inside of TACTICAL ILLUSION, who rolled out marginally. Jockey S. Sheargold was advised to take greater care when attempting a tight run, in similar circumstances. Apprentice jockey I. Teh (TACTICAL ILLUSION) was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for allowing her mount to shift ground.

MISS DAURIAN – Shifted in on jumping taking WHEY MISCHIEF onto RUGGED ROY.

ZAPLUCK – Shifted in upon jumping. Raced wide for the majority.

Race 5: CARLTON & UNITED BREWERIES CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1200M

BARMERA – Laid out under pressure in the straight.

ALLIED COMMAND – Awkward to begin.

SIR MAXIMUS – In the vicinity of the 950m, shifted it under riding, resulting in jockey D. Smith having to take hold of ARTIEBE to avoid heels.

BAKERSFIELD – Laid out under pressure in the straight.

HYPOTHESIZE – When returning to scale, jockey C. Jokic reported that her mount laid out for the majority of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed minor lameness in the near side foreleg.

LISTEN LISTEN – Began awkwardly. In the vicinity of the 950m, jockey S. Sheargold was obliged to steady to avoid the heels of ARTIEBE who was taken in by SIR MAXIMUS.

SMART VENGEANCE – As jockey P. Romeo was indisposed, he was replaced by jockey A. Layt. Stewards permitted A. Layt to ride SMART VENGEANCE +0.5kg over the allocated weight due to no other suitable rider being available. Stood flat footed at the start and lost considerable ground, taking no competitive part in the event. Trainer D. Reynolds was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare.

ARTIEBE – Approaching the 950m was obliged to take hold to avoid the heels of SIR MAXIMUS which resulted in LISTEN LISTEN having to be steadied. Apprentice T. Townsend was found guilty of a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) for shifting ground under riding when insufficiently clear of ARTIEBE who was racing to her inside. Apprentice T. Townsend’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 days to commence midnight the 14th of October and to expire midnight the 20th of October 2023. Apprentice T. Townsend was advised of her rights to appeal.

Race 6: HYGAIN BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1000M

REALEZA – Began awkwardly.

KNOCKKNEE – When questioned, jockey A. Butler stated that it was his intention to find cover, however when the tempo slackened, he had no option but to remain wide. Raced three wide without cover for the majority after failing to gain cover in the early stages.

SPIRIT MEISTER – Jockey R. Wiggins was reprimanded pursuant to AR 132(6)(a) for using his whip in a manner that was forward of SPIRIT MEISTER’s shoulder.

DELUXE LEGEND – Bumped with DOLLSON on jumping.

DOLLSON – Bumped with DELUXE LEGEND on jumping.

VAPORIZING - As jockey P. Romeo was indisposed, he was replaced by jockey D. Smith. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

CROWNING MOMENT – Raced keenly in the early stages.

Race 7: BUSH TO BEACH REAL ESTATE BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1400M

SPEED LEGEND – Held up momentarily before altering course to the outside of COUNT OF CARFORD to gain clear running.

CIAO BICKY – Raced keenly in the early stages.

TYCOON BEAU – Began awkwardly and was then restrained to take a position closer to the rail.

AWE – Held up from the 350m until the 200m.

SANTA MARINELLA - Jockey R.Wiggins was fined $500 for weighing in excess of 0.5kg over his allocated riding weight pursuant to AR 211 (1).

PRINCE AKEEM – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. A post-race examination found no significant findings.


Race 8: MITAVITE CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1400M

Race 8 was delayed 4 minutes to allow LADY MASQUERADE to be re-saddled behind the barriers.

MISTA OMEGA – Began awkwardly.

LADY RAIN – Over-raced during the middle stages. Laid out over the concluding stages.

LADY MASQUERADE - As jockey P. Romeo was indisposed, he was replaced by jockey S. Sheargold. Stewards permitted S. Sheargold to ride LADY MASQUERADE +1.0kg over the allocated weight due to no other suitable rider being available.

FROM THIS MOMENT – Over-raced in the early stages. Laid out over the concluding stages.

DONENOTHING – Raced wide and over-raced in the early stages.

ZOUHOPE – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early stages.
