STEWARDS REPORTTOWNSVILLE TURF CLUB SATURDAY 2 DECEMBER 2023 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – GOOD (4) RAIL – +2.5m Entire.PENETROMETER – 5.6 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – D GriffithsStewards – R Hanson, C BewClerk of Scales – L McKayJudge – S NosworthyVeterinarian – Dr D VieroSwab Attendants – A LeeStarter – M Coleman GENERALAs Jockey S Wilson was indisposed for reasons acceptable to Stewards, the following riding changes were approved -: Race 2 – ROWEINER’S DANCE – J FELIX.Race 4 – LIZA IN LIGHTS – G KLIESE.Race 5 – PICTON – N THOMASRace 6 – TEMPO – S SHEARGOLD Race 1: THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS AMY BYRNES & ALICIA COLLINS QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1000 M BRADBURY'S EXPRESS – Raced ungenerously in the early stages and at the 700 metres lost ground when racing greenly inside another runner. HEAD BEE – Slow to begin. Race 2: LADBROKES MATES MODE QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1300 M ROWEINER'S DANCE – Trainer W Kenning advised Stewards that given the gelding was today having its first start over 1300 metres that he would be instructing Jockey J Felix to adopt different riding tactics today and from the wide barrier ride ROWEINER'S DANCE back in the field. A public announcement was made and the gelding was ridden accordingly. Jockey J Felix was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in after passing the winning post causing a tightening to several runners. AR131 (a) NAZORIAN - Overraced in the early stages. AVERAGE JANE – Overraced in the early stages. ANSWERING – Raced wide throughout. TURN BIRD – Eased off the heels of BEAU RAIN at the 600 metres. Became awkward on the heels of BEAU RAIN at the 250 metres and momentarily steadied and unable to improve at that point. Race 3: LADBROKE IT! OPEN HANDICAP 1400 M BONES – Following a disappointing performance at Home Hill on 28 November 2023, the gelding underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to race. Fractious in the barriers. Jumped awkwardly and lost ground. FAMILY STAR - Overraced in the back straight due to the slow pace. Held up for clear running in the straight. SAVVY SOVEREIGN (NZ) – Overraced in the early stages for some distance due to the slow pace. Held up at the 250 metres and eased wider on the track to improve. VENTURA OCEAN (IRE) – Collided with BONES which jumped outwards at the start. Race 4: MALCOLM PETROFSKI LIFE MEMBERSHIP MAIDEN HANDICAP 1400 M ROMPA – Collided with HUGHIE VUITTON which jumped outwards at the start. ANOTHER JACK – Eased off the heels of CHRISTMAS TIME at the 800 metres. Raced wide in the early stages. LIZA IN LIGHTS – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority. MOHS SCALE - Slow to muster early speed. OH MY HAT- Commenced to overrace and became unbalanced at the 1000 metres. RATALOUIE – Apprentice R Wilson was fined $300 under the terms of AR132 (7) (a) (ii) for using her whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100 metres. . HUGHIE VUITTON – Jumped outwards at the start and collided with another runner. Shifted inwards at the 180 metres hampering ARCTIC DASHER. ARCTIC DASHER – Held up at the 400 metres and unable to improve. Hampered at the 180 metres when HUGHIE VUTTON momentarily shifted inwards. JESKO – Began only fairly. SHADOW ECLIPSE – Raced three wide throughout. Race 5: LAWRENCE & HANSON BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1400 M FORSETI - Slow to begin. MCNAIR (NZ) - Hung in under pressure in the home straight. Correct weight was delayed following Jockey L Morrisons (placed third by the judge) request to view the photo finish for second / third. After viewing same, Stewards were satisfied with the Judges placings and correct weight was notified. PICTON - Jockey N Thomas reported that PICTON pulled hard in the early and middle stages, and he was unable to settle the gelding. CLOUDY MISS - Eased wider on the track at the 250 metres to commence a run and finished well after becoming balanced again. Race 6: BUSH TO BEACH REAL ESTATE BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1200 M GULF OF LION – Slow to begin. BOOMED - Jockey L Morrison was questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted on BOOMED. Jockey Morrison advised that the gelding is a difficult horse to ride and has been stood down from racing at the Townsville track for racing erratically on past occasions. Ms Morrison stated that she was placed further back in running in today’s event than she expected to be but was cautious in bustling the gelding early. Ms Morrison stated that BOOMED was held up making the home turn and when clear finished well. The explanation of Jockey L Morrison was noted. COLD POWER – Slow into stride at the start and raced ungenerously passing the 1000 metres. Hampered by another runner shifting out over the final 100 metres. INVINCIBLE BAY – Steadied at the 100 metres when another runner shifted out.TRAVERS – Overraced when leading.MISS FUBULICIOUS – Shifted out under pressure over the final 150 metres.
