STEWARDS REPORT TOWNSVILLE TURF CLUB TUESDAY 5 MARCH 2024 WEATHER – FineTRACK RATING – Soft 5: Upgraded to Good 4 prior to Race 1: Downgraded to a Soft 7 following Race 4RAIL – +7.5m 1000m-W/Post, +2m RemainderPENETROMETER – 5.6 OFFICIALS Stewards Panel– R. Neal (Chair); D Griffiths; P. Warren, S. Nosworthy (exc. R4) (Cadet) GENERAL Following a track inspection at 10:00am, the track was upgraded to a Good 4. Following heavy rain during the running and following Race 4 (20ml), the programme was deferred one race with the amended race times below: Race 5 – 4:04PMRace 6 – 4:40PMRace 7 – 5:10PM Race 1: INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 8 MARCH MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000 M AOLANI – Hung in over the final 200 metres. MAMA'S MAN – Inclined to lay out over the concluding stages. ALL POWERED UP – Raced wide throughout. GROVERS PREDICTION – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the middle stages. TSUNAMI FORCE – Raced wide throughout. Gave ground latter stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Race 2: LADBROKE IT QTIS TWO-YEARS-OLD HANDICAP 1000 M DANCE FOR ME RANDY – Bumped with FORGETABOUTIT on jumping. FORGETABOUTIT – Began awkwardly. Bumped with DANCE FOR ME RANDY on jumping. MARGOT BARBIE – Shifted in abruptly on jumping hampering ITHINKBETTA which was taken in onto MR GRUMBLER. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the right hind consistent with being galloped-on during the running. MR GRUMBLER – Slow to begin then hampered. Shifted out across heels at the 250 metres to obtain clear running. SIMPLY TINA – Shifted out on jumping hampering MISHANI BURN MISHANI BURN – Contacted the barriers after jumping awkwardly then was hampered shortly afterward by SIMPLY TINA which shifted out. ITHINKBETTA – Hampered by MARGOT BARBIE on jumping. Race 3: LADBROKE MATES MODE OPEN HANDICAP 1400 M HE'S XCEPTIONAL – When questioned regarding the performance, jockey Adrian Layt stated that the gelding was off the bit throughout and was not suited to the fast tempo of the event. DEMON AWARD – Pulled hard in the early stages then was taken forward to lead approaching the 1000 metres then continued to over-race in the lead throughout. MYSTERY 'N' MAGIC – Slow into stride then taken in by TO LOVE SOMEBODY. TO LOVE SOMEBODY – Shifted in on jumping hampering MYSTERY ‘N’ MAGIC. Race 4: ISABELLA TEH APPRENTICE OF THE YEAR 22/23 BM65 HANDICAP 1200 M COUNT OF CARFORD – Slow to begin. RAZMENT – Lost a near-side hind plate in running. BOLD HUNTER – Reared on jumping and lost ground. Commenced to race ungenerously for a short distance past the 1100 metres. Lost the off-side front plate in running. CASTILE – Held up for a short distance rounding the home turn. Following heavy rain during the running and following Race 4 (20ml), the track was downgraded to a Soft 7. Race 5: LACEY MORRISON JOCKEY OF THE YEAR 22/23 BM70 HANDICAP 1000 M BEAUTY BOOM – Shifted in and bumped WANNA TWEET shortly after the start. DON'T TELL LEEANNE – Hampered by TRINITY MISSILE passing the 900 metres. Upon returning to scale, Jockey Adrian Layt stated that the mare had failed to let down on the rain-affected track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed evidence of being struck with a clod in running. TRINITY MISSILE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Passing the 900 metres, lay out and hampered DON’T TELL LEANNE. WANNA TWEET – Raced in restricted room for several strides near the 600m when awkwardly placed near the heels of HURTLE and inside BEAUTY BOOM which shifted ground inward momentarily. Apprentice Jockey Gemma Semmens was reminded of her obligations to ensure she provides sufficient clearance to all runners at all times. Race 6: GEORGIE HOLT TRAINER OF THE YEAR 22/23 QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD HANDICAP 1200 M NAZORIAN – Raced wide in the middle stages. MISHANI MAVERICK – Began awkwardly then lay out hampering CRAICARO which clipped heels and blundered. FLORAL CODE – Raced wide throughout. CRAICARO – Hampered and clipped heels after jumping. TAHKIAN BUBBLES – Contacted the barrier on jumping then was hampered by WILD AFFAIR. PUSS BOOTS – Shifted out abruptly on jumping checking WILD AFFAIR which was taken out onto TAHKIAN BUBBLES. Held up rounding the home turn and only obtained clear racing room passing the 200 metres. YELLOWSTONE BETH – Bounded on jumping with the rider becoming unbalanced for a short distance. MISHANI STAR – Apprentice Jockey Tessa Townsend was reminded of her obligations of using the whip on a horse not in contention. WILD AFFAIR – Checked at the start. Jockey Adam Sewell was reminded of his obligations of using the whip on a horse not in contention. Race 7: NEXT MEETING FRIDAY 15 MARCH BM58 HANDICAP 1400 M BABY GUINNESS – Hung out shortly after the start then made heavy contact with PLUCKERCARN becoming unbalanced. Raced wide with cover throughout. STRATHCONA – Jumped out at the start hampering ELLIE’S DREAM which in turn was taken out onto ALTAR BOY which was hampered. ALTAR BOY – Hampered shortly after the start. Held up for clear running rounding the final turn and early part of the straight. GAIUS JULIUS – Crowded for room after the start. Raced wide without cover throughout. SPECIALTIE – Shifted in on jumping hampering GAIUS JULIUS. Inclined to lay out under pressure over the concluding stages. SACRED LEGACY (NZ) – Shifted in on jumping crowding GINGER MICK. ELLIE'S DREAM – Raced wide without cover throughout. Laid in rounding the home turn. GINGER MICK – Hampered and crowded for room on jumping. PLUCKERCARN – Severely hampered shortly after the start and settled back in consequence.
