GENERAL
 
Rider R Wiggins did not attend the meeting after incurring a suspension on 4th May 2024 and was replaced by:
R2 - INDICTMENT by Nathan Day.
R3 – KICKAGOAL KENNY – by Chelsea Jokic.
R4 - SWITCH AND SLIDE by Nathan Thomas.
R5 – DON ARCANGELO by Nathan Day.
R7 – VILA TINTO – Rebecca Wilson.
 
Rider J Murphy did not attend the meeting after travel disruptions and was replaced in Race 6 by Isabella Teh.

 
 
Race 1: CARNIVAL TICKETS ON SALE NOW MAIDEN PLATE 1609 M
SMOKIN' RUBI – raced keenly for a short distance in the middle stages when the tempo steadied.
KING CANUTE – began very awkwardly and struck the barrier at dispatch; raced keenly throughout.
MISHANI EAGLE – raced greenly for a brief distance when improving near the 1,200 metres.
 
 
Race 2: BECOME A MEMBER TODAY BM70 HANDICAP         1609 M
 
INDICTMENT - crowded near the 1,300 metres when being restrained to trail. Jockey N Day was suspended for 7 days under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip more than permitted in the guidelines. In reaching this finding the Stewards noted that the first two applications of the whip occurred prior to the 400 metres and discretion was applied with respect to this with the overall finding . Stewards ruled thatthe suspension take effect midnight today up to and including Tuesday 14th May 2024.
MOOLOOLABA (NZ) -raced very wide in the initial stages before being taken forward to lead near the 1,100 metres – thereafter inclined to over race in the lead for the remainder.
AWE – lost near fore plate after jumping; slow to begin and then improved onto heels near the 1,400 metres and had to steadied consequently.
JOE'S GIGGLE – laid in when improving to the lead near the 1,300 metres - rider Scott Sheargold was reprimanded under AR131a for crossing to the lead when not fully clear.
SEBROSSA – slow away.
 
Race 3: MITAVITE QTIS TWO-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP         1000 M
KICKAGOAL KENNY – slow to jump away; raced greenly when wide passing the 600 metres.
SMART MISSION – raced wide rounding the first turn.
THE JUDGING SAINT – laid out when struck with the whip near the 100 metres.
TOP FELLA – slow to begin then lost contact with the field in the initial stages.
WILD BUDDY – dipped shortly after the start; inclined to lay in over the concluding stages and had to steady away from the heels of SMART MISSION passing the 100 metres.
ALLEZ PARIS – laid out after the start and crowded WEBS.
WEBS – crowded after the start: held up for much of the final straight.
 
 
Race 4: LADBROKE IT! QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP   1200 M
STORE BEACH – crowded and had to be steadied near the 1,000 metres.
ADMIRAL MADAME – bumped at the start.
PURPOSE 'N' VISION – rider Lacey Morrison was reprimanded under AR 131a after permitting her mount to shift in near the 1,000 metres which resulted in STORE BEACH being crowded and taken in on to MISS FARSTAR which had to be momentarily steadied. In assessing the matter, the racing manners of PURPOSE ‘N’ VISION and greenness at this point of the race were a relevant consideration; PURPOSE 'N' VISION continued to race greenly for a distance thereafter.
MISS FARSTAR – jumped awkwardly and bumped with ADMIRAL MADAME: placed in restricted room near the 1,000 metres.
GROVERS PREDICTION – slow to jump and settled back.
THREDBO – slow to jump away and got back in the field.
 
 
Race 5: LADBROKES SAME RACE MULTI CLASS 6 PLATE      1400 M
SPEED LEGEND – Jumped out at the start and hampered AIDENABET.
AIDENABET – hampered at the start and lost ground.
BREAKWATER BOY – returned to the enclosure with blood present in both nostrils– a post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had bled from both nostrils. Trainer Mr. L Hatch was advised that as this was BREAKWATER BOY’s first bi-lateral bleed it would now be prohibited from racing for a period of three months in accordance with AR79(4) and would be required to gallop 1,000 metres in the presence of a Steward prior to accepting for a future trial or race.
DON ARCANGELO – jumped out at the start and bumped with RAZMENT.
OUTBACK ACTION – shifted ground inward near the 1,200 metres when not clear of TALONS which was checked. Rider Apprentice B Johnson pleaded guilty to a charge under AR131a and after consideration of penalty was suspended from the close of racing on Tuesday 14th May 2024 up to and including racing on Wednesday 22nd May 2024 (8 days). Improved to the inside of BREAKWATER BOY near the 1,000 metres when insufficient room existed. – rider advised to exercise care. Shifted in abruptly near 350 metres and had to be straightened.
RAZMENT – bumped at the start.
TALONS – tightened and checked near the 1,200 metres when inside OUTBACK ACTION which shifted when not clear.
 
Race 6: LADBROKES EASY FORM OPEN HANDICAP         1000 M
OCEAN EMPEROR – bounded at the start and got back.
BONES – lay out shortly after the start and hampered MISSILE THUNDER which in turn shifted out and contacted the hindquarters of FAMILY STAR which was momentarily unbalanced.
FAMILY STAR – bumped and unbalanced after the start – returned to the enclosure with blood present in both nostrils– a post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had bled from both nostrils. Trainer G Hughes was advised that as this was FAMILY STAR first bi-lateral bleed it would now be prohibited from racing for a period of three months in accordance with AR79(4) and would be required to gallop 1,000 metres in the presence of a Steward prior to accepting for a future trial or race.
GDANSK – raced wide throughout.
MORE THE MERRIER - rider Nathan Thomas was reminded of his obligations to maintain a true course when leaving the barriers after permitting his mount to shift in and dictate the running of FAMILY STAR for a short distance.
 
 
Race 7: TRADIES RACE DAY FRIDAY 17 MAY BM55 HANDICAP         1200 M
SENSATIONABULL – improved onto the heels of I EFF OH near the 1,000 metres and had to be restrained.
VILA TINTO – began very awkwardly and got back.
I EFF OH – laid in over the final 300 metres and had to be continually straightened.
OH MY HAT – was fractious in the barriers prior to the start; began very awkwardly and settled well back.
LIGHTHEADEDNESS – slow to begin.
WISHNOWSKY – raced wide throughout.
TENNAGAIN – raced 3-wide throughout.
COLLOMBATTI – became awkwardly placed on the heels of LISTEN LISTEN near the 1,000 metres and had to be steadied.
MCNAIR – pulled up quickly after the end of the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be afflicted by suspected stomach ulcers. Trainer Graham Hughes advised that he would be treating MCNAIR for the ailment. Mr Hughes was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the gelding next racing.
