GENERAL
 
The track was upgraded to a Good 4 at 10:30am.
 
Stewards permitted the following overweights:
Race 5 – G.Kliese +1.0kg
 
Race 1: LADBROKES SAME RACE MULTI QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200 M
 
SMART MISSION – Over-raced in the early stages. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
ALLEZ PARIS – Raced in restricted room approaching the winning post and had to be steadied.
 
MARCH MADNESS – Delayed the start when proving difficult to load. Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure over the conducing stages.
 
SOGOYA – Delayed the start when proving difficult to load. Contacted the barrier on jumping. Raced three wide without cover for the majority. When questioned on the improved performance of SOGOYA, which was having its first start for the new stable, trainer Ms G. Holt stated that she had made gear changes by removing a tongue tie and winkers. She further stated the gelding had pleased her with its trackwork and the intention was that SOGOYA would now be sent for a spell. 
 
SNEAKY FREDDY – Began awkwardly and shifted out hampering WEBS. Over-raced in the early and middle stages and as a result was obliged to race wide.
 
WEBS – Hampered on jumping.
 
RAFFY'S GIRL – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
Race 2: ST PATRICK'S COLLEGE TOWNSVILLE CLASS 6 PLATE         1609 M
 
MOOLOOLABA (NZ) – Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Rounding the home turn, shifted in bumping OLYMPIC KORCHNOI (BRZ) and became unbalanced. Brushed with OLYMPIC KORCHNOI (BRZ) passing the 300m.
 
CAPITAL GIRL – Slow to begin.
 
OLYMPIC KORCHNOI (BRZ) – As apprentice G. Semmens was unable to claim down to her minimum riding weight, she was replaced by apprentice T. Leslight. Began awkwardly. Bumped by MOOLOOABA which shifted in rounding the home turn. Shifted out leaving the 300m brushing with MOOLOOABA (NZ).
 
Correct weight was delayed allowing the rider of the 2nd placegetter L. Morrison (MOOLOOABA) to review the stewards vision in the home straight to ascertain if she had grounds to lodge an objection against OLYMPIC KORCHNOI (App T. Leslight) being declared first . After reviewing the footage, L. Morrison declined to proceed and correct weight was declared on the judge’s semaphored numbers.
 
Race 3: LADBROKES MATES MODE MAIDEN HANDICAP 1400 M
 
MOEGREEN (NZ) – Bounded in the air as the start was affected and lost ground. Shifted out when struck with the whip at the 100 metres.

STORE BEACH – Underwent a pre-race examination after becoming loose in the tie-up area and was passed fit to start. Began awkwardly.
 
PELSAERT (NZ) – Over-raced in the early stages. On returning to scale, jockey N. Thomas stated that PELSEART (NZ) raced fiercely passing the 1000m and he elected to allow the gelding to improve forward. He further advised that the gelding raced greenly thereafter.
 
MUMMIFICATION – Raced three-wide in the early stages.
 
KAISA – Slow to begin and raced ungenerously shortly after the start losing considerable ground. A representative for Trainer K. Hall was advised that a warning would be issued on the mare. Raced three-wide in the early stages.
 
ICE BOUND – Over-raced in the early stages.
 
BOGAN PRINCESS – Held up for clear running from rounding the home turn up to a point passing the 100 metres.
 
Race 4: MITAVITE BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1400 M
 
ZOUHOPE – Slow to begin.
 
SECRET LOCATION – Slow to begin.
 
VANCOUVER BAY – Shifted out at the start bumping LISTEN LISTEN.
 
STRATHCONA – Began awkwardly and shifted out making contact with the barriers losing ground. Checked near the 800m when tightened for room by GINGER MICK which was taken inwards by FLAMING TORCH (NZ). Jockey L. Morrison (Flaming Torch NZ) was pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR 131(a) in that she shifted in when not sufficiently clear of GINGER MICK, which was then taken inwards onto the rightful running of STRATHCONA, which had to be checked. Jockey L. Morrison’s licence was suspended for a period of 8 days from the close of racing on Sunday the 26th of May 2024 up to and including racing Monday the 3rd of June 2024.
 
FLAMING TORCH (NZ) – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Had to be restrained near the 250m when placed in restricted room by DECRYPTING GOLD which shifted out. Jockey J. Murphy, the rider of DECRYPTING GOLD, was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) and was advised to show greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
 
DECRYPTING GOLD – Shifted out to obtain clear running near the 250m placing FLAMING TORCH (NZ) in restricted room.
 
LISTEN LISTEN – Bumped on jumping by VANCOUVER BAY. Over-raced in the early and middle stages.
 
GINGER MICK – Taken inwards by FLAMING TORCH (NZ) which shifted in.
 
LITTLE RED PEPPER – Began awkwardly.
 
Race 5: TRANSPORTABLE LIFESTYLES QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1000 M
 
NAZORIAN – Raced wide for the majority.
 
MISHANI MYSTIQUE – Raced wide for the majority.
 
YAMABUSHI – Held up in the early stages of the straight before obtaining clear running passing the 150m.
 
I EFF OH – Raced wide for the majority. Passing the 200m, laid in when under pressure proving difficult to ride out and bumped with MISHANI MAVERICK.
 
MISHANI MAVERICK – Shifted out when under pressure passing the 200 metres bumping with I EFF OH.
 
WIN AND TONIC – Bumped by HEEZA HUBSESSION at the start.
 
SPONTANEOUS CHOICE – Very slow to begin the hung out shortly after the start losing ground.
 
COME ON LET'S KISS – Slow to begin.
 
HEEZA HUBSESSION – Slow to begin then shifted out and bumped WIN AND TONIC.
 
Race 6: GREAT NORTHERN BREWING CO. CLASS 1 HANDICAP      1000 M
 
CHASETON – Raced wide for the majority. Severely checked by the riderless DELANCY passing the 200m.
 
DELANCY – Reared high as the start was affected causing jockey N. Day to become unbalanced and be dislodged. Jockey N. Day was assessed by QAS staff and was cleared of any injury and was able to fulfill his other riding engagements. Trainer S. Massingham was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding.
 
MARANZANO – Lost a near fore plate in running.
 
IMPERIUM – Slow to begin. Severely checked by the riderless DELANCY passing the 200m.
 
CATALINA DREAMING – As apprentice G. Semmens was unable to claim down to her minimum riding weight, she was be replaced by apprentice T. Leslight. Apprentice G. Semmens was fined a total of $300 inclusive of the rides of OLYMPIC KORCHNOI (Race 2) and CATALINA DREAMING pursuant to AR143(14)(a) for failing to claim down to her declared riding weight. Began awkwardly and shifted in contacting the barriers. Became unbalanced passing the 200 metres when bumped by another runner.
 
FIND MY CALM – Slow to begin.
 
EXTRA FREE – Contracted the running rail near the 250 metres when taking a narrow run to the inside of CATALINA DREAMING, then bumped with that runner shortly after.
 
LADY DAMUS – Slow to begin.
 
OLD FASHIONED ROSE – Began awkwardly. Became unbalanced when making the home turn. Severely checked by the riderless DELANCY passing the 200m.
 
Following the running of Race 6, Stewards heard a complaint from riders W. D’Avila regarding apprentice T. Leslight making an alleged racial comment towards him at the completion of the event. After hearing initial evidence, stewards adjourned the inquiry to a date and time to be advised.
 
Race 7: HYGAIN RATINGS BAND 0 - 65 HANDICAP         1200 M
 
GOLDEN GORGE – Slow into stride.
 
NEVER CRY – Raced wide for the majority. Lost both hind plates in running.
 
SPIRIT MEISTER – Broke through the front of the barriers prior to the start and was quickly restrained. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start.
 
ALMAHERO – Raced wide for the majority.
 
FORGIATO (NZ) – Slow to begin.
 
BATTLE ROYALE – Had to be steadied at the 1000m when racing close to the heels of THE SHERPA. Raced wide for the majority.
 
CROWNING MOMENT – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
ELLEVES – Slow to begin the hampered shortly after.
 
HARVESTA – Jumped in at the start hampering ELLEVES. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
 
Race 8: LADBROKE IT! OPEN HANDICAP   1200 M
 
The start of Race 8 was delayed due to apprentice jockey I. Teh becoming indisposed after weighing out and having to be replaced. Jockey I. Teh was advised a medical clearance would be required prior to next riding.
 
AHWAHNEECHEE – Momentarily placed in restricted room approaching the 200m and steadied off heels to obtain clear running.
 
ACROBATIC – Over-raced in the middle stages and shifted out at the 900m forcing CRYSTAL CHIEF out onto GULF OF LION which had to be checked.  
 
DEMON AWARD – After leaving the saddling enclosure and progressing to the barriers at pace, the gelding underwent a pre-race examination and was passed fit to start. Hung in passing the 1000m causing a tightening to PRIME RULER.
 
ZOUVILLA – Approaching the 1000m, had to be steadied off the heels of ACROBATIC. Over-raced in the middle stages. Passing the 600m, had to check off the heels of MISSILE THUNDER which shifted out abruptly when over-racing.
 
MISSILE THUNDER – After originally weighing out, apprentice jockey I. Teh was indisposed. With no other apprentice available to ride the allotted weight, senior rider N. Thomas was permitted to ride. Slow to begin. Over-raced in the middle stages. Passing the 600m, shifted out abruptly causing ZOUVILLA to be checked. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
CRYSTAL CHIEF – Taken out by ACROBATIC passing the 900m.
 
GULF OF LION – Checked off the heels of CRYSTAL CHIEF passing the 900m.
