SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
Townsville – Tuesday 2nd July 2024
Race 8: Great Northern Brewing Co BM60 Handicap 1400 metres
 
Stewards today concluded an investigation into an incident near the 250 metres where LAST ROYAL (Lacey Morrison) and VICTORY FOR US (Nathan Day) made contact, resulting in both runners being buffeted for several strides. After questioning both riders, Nathan Day was reminded of his obligations when attempting to shift ground.
 
 
Townsville – Tuesday 2nd July 2024
Race 8: Great Northern Brewing Co BM60 Handicap 1400 metres
 
Mr. Troy Clive the trainer of LISTEN TO MAURICE reported that a blood test taken after the race had revealed the gelding to be suffering from a low white blood sell count, and that LISTEN TO MAURICE is being treated for the condition. Mr. Clive undertook to provide a veterinary clearance prior to LISTEN TO MAURICE next racing.
 
 
GENERAL
 
Upon arrival at the track rider Ryan Wiggins advised that he would be unable to make the weight for his mounts in races 2,7, & 9.  Jockey Wiggins admitted a resultant breach of AR190(3) and after consideration of all circumstances, including Jockey Wiggin’s recent record, the Stewards imposed a $300.00 fine. The replacements riders were follows:

Race 1: CARNIVAL LAUNCH 18 JULY QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1300 M
 
BETTER SHOW – blundered on jumping; inclined to over-race through the middle stages; When questioned regarding the filly’s performance rider Lacey Morrison stated she was happy with the performance, however when pressured BETTER SHOW had not let down fully, and in her opinion may have been feeling the effects of the short back up from Tuesday last, together the increase in weight carried today. Trainer Mr Roy Chillemi advised that BETTER SHOW would now be given a brief spell.
POLLY HOFFA – bounded on jumping away then crowded shortly after.
JUNGLEDELI – proved difficult to load.
SNEAKY FREDDY – inclined to over-race in the lead throughout; brushed the rail near the 300 metres.
 
Race 2: MITAVITE QTIS MAIDEN HANDICAP  1200 M
 
CONVERTOR – travelled 3-wide without cover through the early stages.
MRS GLOOP – when questioned regarding the performance rider Scott Sheargold reported that the mare failed to let down when pressured and was disappointing- veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality, however trainer Mr Robbie Kirkwood advised that Mrs Gloop would undergo further examination post the race meeting with the outcomes to be reported to the Stewards.
ELECTRIC HASHMAL – jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
JUST LIKE ROSIE – slow into stride; shifted out near the 1,100 metres and bumped with MUMMFICATION which was unbalanced; got its head in the air and over-raced between the 1,000 metres and 600 metres; jockey Adrian Layt reported that the mare had got its tongue over the bit during the running. Trainer Mr Tim Cooke advised that he would be adding a tongue tie to  JUST LIKE ROSIEat its next start.
LOVE ON DISPLAY – inclined to race greenly in the final straight.
MUMMIFICATION – bumped and briefly unbalanced near 1,100 metres.
 
Race 3: LADBROKES MAGNETIC ISLAND MILE OPEN HANDICAP  1609 M
 
THIRD REALM (GB) – rider Ashley Butler reported that the gelding never travelled at any stage and was disappointing – a post-race veterinary examination of THIRD REALM (GB) revealed no obvious abnormality.
SAYL (GB) – bounded on jumping and lost ground.
MOOLOOLABA (NZ) – over-raced through the middle stages; when questioned regarding the run of the gelding rider Lacey Morrison stated that gelding had travelled well throughout, and she could offer no real excuses.
SUCH A WHIT – jumped out at the start; hung out badly throughout the final straight – warned racing manners.
 
Race 4: GREAT NORTHERN BREWING CO. OPEN HANDICAP  1000 M
 
ALL TIME LEGEND – held up passing the 500 metres until near the 250 metres.
HE'S XCEPTIONAL – dictated out after the start.
PRIME RULER – jumped out at the start dictating HE'S XCEPTIONAL out onto BAKUHATSU which had to steady.
ROWEINER'S DANCE – struck the side of its barrier on jumping and lost ground; hung out from the 800 metres through to the 250 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the off-front foreleg which required veterinary attention.
FOCUS – jumped awkwardly; travelled wide without cover throughout.; cast off-side front plate during the running.
The all-clear was delayed due to Nathan Thomas, rider of the 5th placed FOCUS, wishing to view the photo for 4th placing. After examination of the print the all-clear was authorised on the semaphored numbers.
 
 
Race 5: LADBROKES EASY FORM RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP 1200 M
 
LUCKY ROLLA – began awkwardly and got back from a wide draw; travelled 3-wide with cover to the 700 metres.
SUPER TWENTY THREE – jumped in at the start bumping with JAZZ WORTHY which in turn shifted in onto HUNT THE HUNTER.
HUNT THE HUNTER – bumped at the start ; travelled 3-wide without cover for the majority of the event.
JAZZ WORTHY – bumped at the start.
BOLD ZIP – had difficulty obtaining clear racing room throughout the final straight.
 
Race 6: LADBROKES YARD COMMENTS RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP 1200 M
 
LISTEN LISTEN – slow to begin; travelled 3-wide with cover for the majority of the race; was held up and unable to improve passing the 400 metres until inside the 100 metres.
WEMYSS – bumped with SPONTANEOUS CHOICE at the start; when questioned regarding the performance of WEMYSS rider Nathan Thomas stated that the filly had not come onto the bridle at any stage. A post-race veterinary examination of WEMYSS revealed no obvious abnormality.
SPONTANEOUS CHOICE – bumped with WEMYSS at the start.
WINNING SAGA – travelled 3-wide without cover throughout.
LINE OF KINGS – held up for the majority of the final straight and had to be taken wider passing the 100 metres to obtain clear running.
MERRY OLD SOUL (NZ) - slow to begin.
 
Race 7: MAGIC MILLIONS TOWNSVILLE DOLLARS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP  1400 M
 
SWEET KISSES – rider Ashley Butler was firmly reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts to line when riding out after relaxing his ride over the concluding stages when leading and winning by a narrow margin.
BEAU RAIN – was crowded near approaching winning post and had to steady when SWEET KISSES laid out and RELIABLE WITNESS laid in marginally.
CENTRAL PARK - travelled wide throughout; hampered when weakening passing the 200 metres after DECRYPTING GOLD shifted out when racing  greenly.
BETTA AL – hampered at the 1,200 metres and travelled wide thereafter.
DECRYPTING GOLD – raced greenly under riding passing the 200 metres and shifted out bumping with CENTRAL PARK – rider Cory Bayliss was reminded of his obligations when his mounts when riding out.
ULTIMATE – commenced pulled hard passing the 1100 metres and shifted out forcing BETTA AL wider on the track.
STORE BEACH – gave ground passing the 500 metres and was distanced at the finish. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality. Trainer Mr Les Gordy advised that STORE BEACH would now be spelled.
CRAICARO – slow to begin; lay out passing the 200 metres bumping with CENTREAL PARK which was unbalanced.
 
Race 8: HYGAIN BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP  1400 M
 
VENTURA OCEAN (IRE) – inclined to over-race in the lead throughout.
HARROW (IRE) – slow to begin.
DEVIL'S INN – held up for the majority of the final straight.
VALENKI – travelled wide throughout.
MISSION HOUSE – slow to begin.
THE SHERPA – bounded at the start and lost ground.
BLOOMIN' READY - travelled wide from the 1,000 metres.
 
Race 9: BLUEY MCDOWELL MEMORIAL CLASS 6 HANDICAP  1200 M
 
CRYSTAL CHIEF – severely checked near the 1,000 metres when tightened; unable to obtain clear running throughout the final straight.
REGGIE'S BOY – severely checked near the 1,000 metres when tightened; held up for clear running rounding the final turn and throughout the final straight.
BEAUTY BOOM – shifted ground inward near the 1,000 metres when not clear – rider suspended.
HALLSIDE HAMMER – tightened and checked near the 1,000 metres.
SAVVY SOVEREIGN (NZ) – raced wide on the track through the early stages.
DARK REBEL – bumped heavily with BRING ME FLOWERS at the start.
BRING ME FLOWERS bumped heavily with DARK REBEL at the start.
TYCOON BABY – underwent a veterinary examination after arriving at the barriers after contacting the enclosure when parading.
CHICKERARTIE – tightened for room near the 1,000 metres and had to be restrained.
Stewards inquired into an incident near the 1,000 metres where several runners were tightened and lost ground when inside BEAUTY BOOM which was progressing forward.
After questioning riders, and reviewing vision of the incident, it was established that approaching the 1,000 metres BEAUTY BOOM (ridden by Apprentice Tyler Leslight) had attempted to shift ground inward when progressing forward, however was not clear of CHICKERARTIE when undertaking this move which resulted in CHICKERARTIE being hampered and dictated inwards into the line of HALLSIDE HAMMER which was also hampered. In turn HALLSIDE HAMMER was dictated inward onto CRYSTAL CHIEF which was checked with REGGIES BOY also being badly tightened and losing ground in consequence.
Apprentice Leslight, with the assistance of senior rider Lacey Morrison, admitted a resultant breach of AR131a, and after penalty considerations Apprentice Leslight’s licence to ride in races was suspended from the close of racing today, up to and including racing on Thursday 18th July 2024.
