Stewards permitted the following overweights:

As rider S. Apthorpe was delayed arriving on course he was subsequently replaced by A. Layt as the rider of ALLDABURGERS in Race 1.
 
 
Race 1: THE METROPOLE TOWNSVILLE MAIDEN PLATE      1200 M
 
CONVERTOR – Cast its off-hind plate.
 
FAST AS STEEL – Raced wide throughout. Hung out from the 600 metres and was subsequently eased down by the rider. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer A. Bailey was advised the gelding would be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to being permitted to race again.
 
FIGHTING EDGE – Jumped in the at the start. Raced in Restricted room shortly after the start.
 
OAKFIELD PANTHER – Raced wide throughout.
 
SCORPION JACK – Raced wide early.
 
TYCOON LAD – Hung out when being steadied approaching the 1000m and became awkwardly placed at the heels of CONVERTOR. Jockey J. Huxtable, the rider of CONVERTOR, was reminder of his obligations when shifting ground.
 
TYMON – Tightened at the start.
 
ONE SHOT MORE – Jumped out at the start.
 
SPEC OF SILVER – Raced keenly in the early stages when being restrained.
 
SPRING'S GIFT – Tightened at the start.
 
DYNA POWER –Approaching the 1100m, had to be momentarily steadied from the heels of BOGAN PRINCESS which shifted in.
 
ALLDABURGERS – Bumped at the start. Approaching the 1000m became awkwardly placed at heels. Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 2: LEXUS OF TOWNSVILLE UP & COMING STAYERS BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 2000 M
 
TROPIC SANDS – Shifted in shortly after the start. Laid in under pressure approaching the winning post.
 
PESHWA – Laid out leaving the home straight on the first occasion when racing keenly.
 
SECRET LOCATION – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped TWENTY THREE WALL.
 
MEDAL (NZ) – Brushed approaching the winning post by TROPIC SANDS. Stewards noted rider P. Romeo exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m (+2) under AR132(7)(a)(ii); however, given the totality of the whip use, no further action was taken.
 
VANCOUVER BAY – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide for the majority. Cast it’s off hind plate.
 
BRAVIO – Bumped at the start.
 
CENTRAL PARK – Over raced in the early stages. Stewards noted rider A. Layt exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m (+2) under AR132(7)(a)(ii); however, given the totality of the whip use, no further action was taken.
 
PRINCE AKEEM – Shifted out shortly after the start.
 
FRIJOLES – Tightened at the start. Raced in restricted shortly approaching the 900m.
 
TWENTY THREE WALL – Bumped at start.
 
 
Race 3:HJ CONSTRUCTIONS BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP         1000 M
 
The start of this event was delayed because of J. Stanley being harmlessly dislodged from RUSSSIAN MINT when proceeding to the barriers.
 
CUBAN AFFAIR – Began awkwardly.
 
HARVESTA – Raced wide throughout.
 
RUSSIAN MINT – Slow to begin.
 
BEAN WARRIOR – Shifted out shortly after the start and bumped FLYING MAPLE.
 
WHEY MISCHIEF – Momentarily held up in the early stages of the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination a very poor recovery. Trainer Mr S. Massingham advised Stewards he would review the future racing plans of the gelding. Stewards advised Mr Massingham that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to WHEY MISCHIEF being permitted to race or trial again.
 
TACTICAL ILLUSION – Began awkwardly.
 
SERAFIMA – Held up rounding the home turn until leaving the 200 metres. Raced wide throughout.
 
FLYING MAPLE – Bumped shortly after start. Raced wide throughout.
 
RUGGED ROY – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 4: JCU UNI BAR BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1000 M
 
The start of this event was slightly delayed when SENSATIONABULL underwent a veterinary examination after becoming fractious in the barriers. The gelding was subsequently cleared to start.
 
CANDLELIT – Slow to begin and was hampered shortly afterwards. Over raced in the early and middle stages. Improved onto heels entering the home straight and blundered. Apprentice T. Leslight, in the presence of senior rider L. Morrison, was advised by Stewards to ensure he does not elect, or permit, his rides to attempt to improve into runs which had not fully developed.
 
COLD POWER – Raced wide throughout.
 
NORTHERNONTAP – Jumped out at the start.
 
KIHI – Began very awkwardly and lost ground. Trainer Mr S. Bush was advised that the gelding must jumpout or trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to being permitted to race again. Held up rounding the home turn until approaching the 100 metres.
 
DEEP MYSTIQUE – Raced wide throughout.
 
SO ODELIA – Raced wide throughout. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight. Cast its off fore plate.
 
MR KOBO – Began awkwardly.
 
The track was upgraded to Good 4 following this race.
 
 
Race 5: ERROL SEWELL RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP         1300 M
 
STRATHCONA – Began very awkwardly, shifted in and bumped HOLY CROWN.
 
TEST OF WAR – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr J. Heelan advised Stewards the gelding would now be retired.
 
EARLY FUSION – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
KIDSTON – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
 
FERGYLISCIOUS – Slow to begin.
 
LISTEN LISTEN – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
CITY OF BOULDER – Raced wide throughout.
 
HOLY CROWN – Bumped at the start.
 
ICE BOUND – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bled from both nostrils. Trainer Mr T. Clive was advised that for a period of 2 months ICE BOUND must not, without the permission of the Stewards, be trained, exercised or galloped on a racecourse, recognised training track, private training establishment, or other place and must not start in any race for a period of 3 months, and then only after a gallop of at least 1,000 metres or an official trial or jump-out in the presence, and to the satisfaction of a Steward.
 
CHUCKA DUMMY – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 6:CITY LANE TOWNSVILLE CLASS 3 PLATE 1400 M
 
CUSACK – Slow to begin.
 
FINSCEAL – Slow to begin.
 
HARROW (IRE) – Declared a late scratching at 1:03pm on veterinary after being injured whilst being transported to the track. Trainer Mr S. Massingham was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing or trialling again.
 
YOU ARE KING – Raced three wide. Over raced in the early and middle stages.
 
AMMAND – Raced wide throughout.
 
THE SHERPA – Bounded in the air as the start was affected.
 
Race 7: LADBROKES TOWNSVILLE CUP 2000 M
 
NAMAZU – Commenced to buck approaching the 1900m and lost considerable ground, taking no competitive part for the remainder of the event. Rider A. Butler advised Stewards that he was at a lost to explain the reason for the gelding bucking, adding there was no issue with his saddle or any of the gear applied to NAMAZU.A post-race veterinary examination revealed laceration to the mouth, consistent with the gelding having bitten its tongue. Trainer Mr R. Vale was advised that the gelding would be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to being permitted to race again. Mr Vale advised Stewards he would be considering sending the gelding for a spell.
 
WARP SPEED – Raced wide early.
 
THIRD REALM (GB) – Slow to begin.
 
ANDALUS (NZ) – Bumped at the start. Raced awkwardly at heels leaving the 1900 metres.
 
SAYL (GB) – Bumped and tightened for room at the start.
 
SUCH A WHIT – Shifted out at the start. Raced wide throughout. Rider Ms C. Jokic advised Stewards that the gelding hung out for the majority of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.
 
TWO SMOKIN BARRELS – Bumped and tightened for room at the start. Raced wide early. Rider N. Thomas advised that the gelding may not have appreciated today’s racing surface.
 
I SAY BOOM – Inconvenienced approaching the 1900 metres when NAMAZU commenced to buck.
 
 
Race 8:LADBROKES CLEVELAND BAY 1300 M
 
 
SMART IMAGE – Begin awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
 
TIGER LEGEND – Tightened for room and had to be checked passing the 500 metres when racing between CONSTANT FLIGHT and NORTHERN PRIDE.
 
STAMPE – Raced wide throughout.
 
CONSTANT FLIGHT – Raced wide throughout. Rider J. Stanley reported his mount had a tendency hang in throughout and proved difficult to ride.
 
HE'S XCEPTIONAL – Began awkwardly.
 
RUBY JULY – Slow to begin.
 
NORTHERN PRIDE – shifted ground out passing the 500 metres tightening the running of TIGER LEGEND which was checked. Rider Ms L Morrison admitted a resultant breach of AR131a, and after consideration of penalty her licence to ride in races was suspended from the close of racing today, up to and including racing on Sunday 11th August 2024 (8 days)
 
FOR VALOUR – Raced wide throughout.
 
CASHIN' CHEX (NZ) – Held up until approaching the 200 metres.
 
 
Race 9: GREAT NORTHERN BREWING CO CAPE CLEVELAND BENCHMARK 75 HANDICAP 1200 M
 
The start of this race was delayed due to rider Adrian Layt being unaware of an engagement to ride VENTURS OCEAN (IRE) made by connections earlier today after the gelding regained the field and having to prepare his riding equipment. An investigation into this matter was adjourned.
 
LETMELETGO – Shifted out at the start and bumped KNIGHTS SWORD.
 
KNIGHT'S SWORD – Bumped at the start.
 
MISSILE THUNDER – Raced wide throughout.
 
FANAAR (NZ) – Over-raced in the early stages. Inconvenienced approaching the 250 metres and became awkward at the heels of VENTURA OCEAN.
 
TURBEAU – Blundered at the start.
 
COURTESY BUS – Bumped at the start.
 
BRINGYATICKET – As R. Wiggins had taken ill, Stewards permitted P. Romeo as the replacement rider. Slow to begin. Cast its near hind plate.
