QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOWNSVILLE TURF CLUB SUNDAY 13TH OCTOBER 2024 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING –Soft 5(Upgraded to Good 4 following Race 1) RAIL – Out 5.5m winning post to 1,000m – out 2.5m for the remainder.PENETROMETER – 5.58 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – R Neal Stewards – D Griffiths; P Warren and J McIntosh S Nosworthy (Cadet). SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT BOWEN TURF CLUBRace 4: CLEANSKIN WELDING BM50 HANDICAP 1,280 M Trainer Mr Troy Clive advised that after returning to his stables, VIVA AMERICANA had been displaying lameness in the off-side foreleg. Mr Clive was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the mare next racing. Mr Clive advised that he would be considering VIVA AMERICANA’s racing future. GENERAL Apprentice Gabrielle Semmens did not attend the meeting after sustaining an injury at the Bowen Turf Club meeting on Saturday 12th October 2024, and was replaced as follows- R1: UNDER THE SHADOW by Tyler LeslightR7: DUSKY DAMSEL by Tyler Leslight. Race 1: LADBROKES YARD COMMENTS QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD HANDICAP 1300 M WELL HELD – laid out over the final 100 metres.UNDER THE SHADOW – hung out from the 600 metres.SIMPLY TINA – checked on jumping and settled back. Following Race 1 the track was upgraded to Good 4. Race 2: GREAT NORTHERN BREWING CO CLASS 3 PLATE 1609 M ANDALUS (NZ) – inclined to lay in over the final 250 metres.VALENKI – travelled keenly through the early and middle stages; when questioned regarding the run of the gelding, rider Justin Stanley stated that after settling in behind, the gelding had travelled well however was left flat footed when the tempo increased passing the 600 metres and thereafter struggled to make any discernible ground. Jockey Stanley added that VALENKI went briefly off-stride near the 500 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality. Race 3: LADBROKES BLACKBOOK MAIDEN PLATE 1400 M ARIK LAD – raced fiercely and proved difficult to control throughout the event – warning placed on racing manners. FIGHTING EDGE – change of tactics advised - to be ridden forward; travelled wide throughout; was attended by the club veterinary after suffering an allergic reaction in the tie-up stalls post-race. KINGS CASTLE (FR) – travelled wide throughout.TWILIGHT STEPS – bumped heavily at the start and became unbalanced.TYMON – held up rounding the final turn.BOGAN PRINCESS – blundered on jumping away; returned to scale displaying respiratory noise- a post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality. MISS FARSTAR – shifted out and bumped heavily with TWILIGHT STEPS Race 4: COWBOYS LEAGUES CLUB BM70 HANDICAP 1000 M RIGEL STAR – got its head up when being restrained in the early stages.LAST DITCH EFFORT – travelled wide in early and middle stages; held up passing the 250 metres; shifted out across heels near the 200 metres to obtain clear running; lost off-side fore plate shortly after the start.STRATEGIST – slow to jump away.GOSSIP TORQUE – over-raced through the early and middle stages.VIBURNUM – travelled wide without cover throughout.TALONS – held up rounding the final turn until near the 200 metres, and when in clear running was inclined to lay in, having to be straightened. Race 5: LADBROKES EASY FORM CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1000 M CELEBRATION – travelled four-wide without cover throughout.JAWGO – laid out rounding the final turn.WHITTLESFORD – travelled three-wide without cover throughout.SWITCH AND SLIDE – hampered on jumping away; held up rounding the final turn; Rider Scott Sheargold admitted a breach of AR211 (1) and was fined $400.00 after weighing in 1kg in excess of the weight he weighed out. GINGER MICK – began awkwardly then hampered and settled back. Race 6: HYGAIN OPEN HANDICAP 1400 M GULF OF LION – Raced keenly in the middle stages.TURBEAU – went off stride shortly after the start and lost ground. Trainer Mr Stephen Massingham was advised that a warning had been placed on the gelding’s racing manners. Stewards also questioned Mr Massingham about the perceived improved performance of TURBEAU today. In explanation Mr Massingham stated that the gelding had been racing well without any particular luck and had benefitted from an increase in distance today. Stewards noted rider Ryan Wiggins exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m (+ two) under AR132(7)(a)(ii); however, given the totality of the whip use no further action was taken. CALL ME MO – stood flat footed and lost ground.MOKTAFFY (IRE) – dipped on jumping away. Race 7: EXPLORE PROPERTY MUNRO & CO BM65 HANDICAP 1200 M MIKADO – bumped at the start.SPIRIT MEISTER – began awkwardly. raced fiercely in the middle stages and near the 600 metres was taken wider when awkwardly near heels. DUSKY DAMSEL – travelled three-wide throughout; dictated wider passing the 600 metres.JOHN JOSEPH – hampered at the start; held up rounding the final turn and was taken wider passing the 200 metres to improve.MEMPHIS SHADOW – slow to begin.SEALION – began awkwardly and shifted out on to JOHN JOSEPH; had difficulty obtaining clear running throughout the final straight.COUNTER COMMAND – blundered on jumping away.SUPER FAST – began awkwardly and then shifted in bumping with MIKADO. Race 8: LADBROKES RACING CLUB BM58 HANDICAP 1400 M LIDDER VALLEY – held up rounding the final turn and was taken out across heels to obtain clear running near the 200 metres.DELUXE LEGEND – travelled three-wide without cover throughout.TRIGGERIFIC – reared when the barriers were released and lost several lengths.ZOUHOPE – tightened at the start and lost groundSTRATHCONA – jumped in at the start and tightened ZOUHOPE; a post-race veterinary examination revealed the small laceration to the right hind, and was treated before leaving the course.
