Race 1: Neil Mansell Transport Benchmark 75 H'cap – 1000m

FORETOKEN – Began awkwardly.

ROYAL SHOUT – Forced to steady from another runner whilst hanging out near the 400m and again in the early stages of the home straight. Jockey L. Attard reported that his mount hung out for the majority of the race and proved difficult to ride out with his full vigour.

BUSH CAVIAR – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

RESPIRE – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

UNDER THE LEANER – Jockey N. Nishio was fined $100 for excessive use of his whip in the home straight when out of contention. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse had sustained an injury to its near foreleg. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to the horse’s next race start.

Race 2: Pacific Seeds Class 4 H'cap – 1210m

TRY ‘N’ CATCH ME – Began awkwardly, losing ground. Improved onto heels near the 700m and shifted out, clipped the heels of another runner and blundered. Bumped on a number of occasions rounding the home turn.

RIVER GEORGIA – Tightened for room at the start.

SHADOW SHOW – Tightened for room at the start.

THOMAS THE TANK – Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained leaving the 900m. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, jockey M. Powell advised that after beginning well the horse obtained its customary leading position, however he added that when pressured during the middle stages of the event by another runner, his mount commenced to overrace and, in his opinion, failed to run out a high pressure 1200 metre event tonight. Stewards noted the explanation.

SCENIC ROAD – On return to scale jockey L. Attard reported his saddle shifted to the side in the very early stages of the event, placing him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race. Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained leaving the 900m.

Race 3: Happy 84th Birthday Hazel Laycock Class 1 H'cap – 1650m

VAINQUEUR – Began awkwardly and then was further hampered at the start when tightened for room and as a result lost ground. Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained near the 1000m and again when being steadied rounding the turn.

RITZY BELLE – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority of the race. As trainer K. Kemp was not on course, stewards will question him at a later date in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance of the horse.

CONVOY – Overraced during the early and middle stages of the race.

GETTING’JIGGYWITHIT – Steadied from the heels of another runner near the 1000m.

EAT YOUR HEART OUT – Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.

Race 4: Happy 40th Craigybaby Class 2 H'cap – 1300m

RULING MISS – Began awkwardly and lost ground. When questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer J. Hanna advised that he had expected a forward showing from the mare tonight following its last start at Gatton where it made up considerable ground over the concluding stages. He added based on the finishing effort of RULING MISS last start over a shorter distance, he felt the mare would be better suited by the step up to 1300m in tonight’s event.

OUR PLAYDOUGH – Slow into stride.

DEEP CROSSING – Raced in restricted room for a short distance in the early stages of the race. Following the disappointing performance trainer S. Iverson advised that he will now send the horse for a short spell.

OUTBACK CARLSON – Was checked badly near the 400m when racing to the inside of ZOUAVES, which shifted in whilst hanging in badly despite the efforts of its rider. A post race veterinary examination of the horse, which weakened from this point, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

HANDFUL OF SILVER – Checked to avoid the heels of another runner near the 400m.

ZOUAVES – Hung in badly throughout the event, and passing the 500m was eased down by its rider. Trainer Mr G. Burns was advised that prior to the horse racing again, it must compete satisfactorily in an official barrier trial.

Race 5: Queensland Choice Meats Class 2 H'cap – 1300m

On return to scale a protest was lodged by the connections of the 2nd placegetter, FLYING LUCKY, against DAZZLING HALO being declared the winner, alleging interference in the home straight. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the official patrol film, stewards found that in the early stages of the home straight FLYING LUCKY, in attempting to shift out, made contact with the hind quarters of DAZZLING HALO, resulting in that runner becoming unbalanced and shifting in, which resulted in FLYING LUCKY racing in restricted room for a short distance. As stewards felt that this incident was in fact attributable to the actions of Matthew Powell, rider of FLYING LUCKY, they could not be satisfied that the interference could be attributed to K. Yoshida, rider of DAZZLING HALO. Stewards further found that when placed in restricted room near the 200m, this tightening could not be fully attributable to DAZZLING HALO and therefore stewards gave no weight to this incident in the protest hearing. Bearing in mind these factors, stewards dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings.

TUBE RIDE – Began awkwardly.

ROCK ON BRO – Tightened for room at the start. Bumped rounding the home turn and became unbalanced. Raced wide throughout.

DAZZLING HALO – Overraced in the early and middle stages.

BLACK ZERO – A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be lame in the near foreleg. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to its next race start.

Race 6: Seven News QTIS 2yo Maiden H'cap – 1210m

GOLDEN ALEY – Slow to begin.

DRUMMER’S CHOICE – Slow into stride.

LARVOTTO BEACH – Slow into stride.

NATIONAL TRAIL – Raced ungenerously for a short distance at the 1000m. Held up rounding the home turn.

LATE PAYMENT – As trainer P. Duff was not on course, stewards will contact him at a later date in relation to the improved performance.

Race 7: Winning Edge Class 1 H'cap – 1050m

LUNA AZZURA - As Brad Appo was indisposed, J. Missen was substituted as the rider of the horse.

SNIPPET EXPRESS – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground.

HAMILTON – Tightened for room and checked by its rider approaching the 800m.

MARKSFIELD – Raced wide throughout.

TRIPLE JEOPARDY – Raced wide throughout.

Race 8: K&R Plumbing Supplies Maiden H'cap – 1050m

THE RED ROOSTER – Declared a late scratching at 10.20 am by order of the stewards.

SOLO SOPRANO – Subject to further submissions, J. Morris will be fined $100 for failing to fulfil his engagement on the horse.

GET LOOSE – Declared a late scratching at 9.10 pm on veterinary advice after becoming cast in the barriers. Following the event, all monies invested on Get Loose were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable.

Trainer S. Saal Winter was advised that a further barrier certificate will be required prior to mare’s next race start.

WHEN IN DOUBT – Slightly slow to begin and began awkwardly, making contact with another runner. Steadied to avoid the heels of another runner at the 800m.

UNI – Slow into stride. On return to scale, jockey N. Evans reported his saddle shifted shortly after the start, placing him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

MCDINGA – Raced in restricted room for a short distance at the 800m. Raced greenly throughout the race. Improved onto heels inside the 100m of another runner and was forced to steady and alter course.
