Race 1: Wimmers Soft Drinks Class 2 H'cap – 1300m

FELIX – Declared a late scratching at 7.40 am. Trainer L. Bryant was reprimanded.

FRENCH SONG – The start was delayed when the filly proved difficult to load.

BARBUDA – Slow to begin.

CAZNOT – Slow to begin. Struck the rail near the 900m of its own accord. Momentarily held up for clear running near the 200m.

LAURINOOR – Steadied to avoid heels near the 400m and shifted out to obtain clear running.

A LADY’S COMPLIMENT – Raced wide throughout.

BAY DUKE – On return to scale S. Bogenhuber could offer no tangible explanation for the disappointing performance. A post race veterinary examination revealed a poor post race recovery. Trainer T. Sears expressed disappointment with the horse tonight, however was concerned with the manner the horse pulled up following the event. A post race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery. Mr Sears was advised that a veterinary certificate must be produced for the gelding prior to its next race start.

CODE ONE – Jockey E. Ljung could offer no tangible explanation for the disappointing performance other than the horse may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer J. Dann also expressed disappointment with tonight’s performance and indicated that the horse would now be sent for a spell.
Race 2: Mitty’s Class 1 H'cap – 1100m

SO QUICK – Declared a late scratching at 5.57 pm on veterinary advice when the horse was found to have sustained a hoof injury after shifting a plate. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on So Quick were ordered to be refunded, with the following deductions applicable.

1 cent in the dollar for 2nd place #2
13 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #8

SIR GALLEN – Turned its head shortly prior to the start being effected and as a result began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with another runner.

QUEEN OF THE ARK – Made heavy contact on jumping away. On the assurance of trainer B. Currie that the horse raced in a tongue-tie last start permission was granted for the mare to race in a tongue-tie tonight despite it not being a part of its official gear. Stewards will follow up with the Trainer’s Service Centre at a later date.

CLARA’S CROSS – Made heavy contact on jumping away.

LIDO – Bumped at the start and failed to muster early speed.

SPUR ME UP – Raced wide throughout.

Race 3: Bundaberg Rum QTIS 2yo Plate – 1050m

CAPTAIN’S PICK – Trainer T. Crane was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider by the prescribed time.

JACARANDA KING – Trainer S. Jones was fined $200 for failing to enact a gear change by the prescribed time. On return to scale jockey J. Morris reported that in his opinion the gelding chocked down during the event and consequently weakened over the concluding stages. Stewards attempted to have the horse examined by the veterinary surgeon, however as a result of its having left the course such examination was unable to be carried out. Stewards will follow up with trainer S. Jones regarding the matter.

LOVE SPY – A warning was placed on the horse which was difficult load.

MOBILE – Slow to begin.

YEEZY – Slow to begin.

JACARANDA KING – Laid in in the early stages and as a result inconvenienced another runner.

DRUMMLE – Inconvenienced in the early stages. Raced ungenerously near the 900m for a short distance when racing to the inside of LOVE SPY, which shifted in when not fully clear. Apprentice E. Ljung, rider of LOVE SPY, was reprimanded.

RAW SUGAR – Raced wide throughout. Jockey A. Spinks was reprimanded for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.

SHUDA KNOWN BETTER – Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reasons for this horse falling and A. Fancourt being dislodged from YEEZY near the 500m to a time and date to be fixed. Both jockey S. Bogenhuber (SHUDA KNOWN BETTER) and A. Fancourt (YEEZY) were transported to hospital for observation. In this incident, CAPTAIN’S PICK had to be checked and shifted wider on the track to avoid the fallen horse and rider.

MOBILE – Checked badly to avoid the fallen horse and riders near the 500m and lost considerable ground and as a result took no competitive part in the event.

GENERAL COS – Checked and lost considerable ground near the 500m when endeavour to avoid the fallen horse and riders.


Race 4: Furneys Stock Feeds Ratings Band 0-62 H'cap – 1625m

ROYAL EVENT – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the race.

COUNT ROMANO – Raced in restricted room for a short distance after the start. Steadied from heels rounding the home turn. Jockey L. McCoy was reprimanded for using her whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.

RUBY RAY – Had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn and approaching the 100m.

WORLD SERIES – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

DAZZLING SHIRAZ – On return to scale, apprentice E. Ljung advised she obtained a good positon throughout the event and travelled comfortably, however when placed under pressure failed to respond to her riding and proved disappointing. Trainer J. Crompton advised that in light of tonight’s performance the gelding would be spelled immediately.


Race 5: The Toowoomba Regions New Year’s Eve Gift Benchmark 80 H’cap - 1625m

TIGERISH – Raced wide from the 900m.

RICH REWARD – When questioned apprentice E. Ljung advised stewards that after beginning well she elected to restrain her mount after being caught wide in the early stages of the event to a position closer to the rails in a rearward position, which was in accordance with its established racing pattern. Apprentice Ljung added she was satisfied with her position throughout the event as she was trailing the eventual winner, GOOD JOB BRO, however when it improved into the race near the 600m she was unable to quicken with that horse and, in her opinion, the mare raced somewhat flat today. Jockey B. Evans, rider of SPATHA, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that near the 1400m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of RICH REWARD, resulting in that horse clipping heels and blundering. B. Evans was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 9 days, to commence at midnight, 6 January and to expire at midnight, 15 January.



Race 6: Vanderfield John Deere Maiden Plate – 1200m

NO MORE CUDDLES – Reared over in the parade yard and declared a late scratching at 9.03 pm on veterinary advice, with the following deductions applicable.

1 cent in the dollar for 3rd place #1

WE BUILT THIS CITY - Began awkwardly and lost ground.

HEATHER BLOOM – Trainer J. Judge was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for the horse by the prescribed time. Began very awkwardly and shifted out and had to be steadied to avoid heels and as a result lost ground.

MYTYBYTE – Shifted out near the 1000m and had to be restrained whilst racing ungenerously, forcing JERRYVIL to shift out and resulting in ROCK ME CRAZY, which was following, having to be checked to avoid that runner’s heels. Raced wide.

MUSIC SCENE – Disappointed for a run leaving the 100m and as a result lost ground.

ROCK ME CRAZY – Raced ungenerously throughout the event and at times proved difficult to ride. Shifted out abruptly inside the 100m to obtain clear running.

I AM HERCULES – Raced wide.

HE’S A WITNESS – Checked to avoid heels when placed in restricted room over the concluding stages of the event. Raced greenly throughout the event.

JERRYVIL – Jockey B. Appo was reprimanded for using his whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.


Race 7: Winning Edge Class 4 H'cap – 1200m

FINNOMONY – Tightened for room shortly after the start and as a result settled further back in the field than anticipated. Steadied from heels near the 500m.

PEARLY COURT – Raced wide throughout.

LORD BEAUFORT – Raced wide throughout. Apprentice M. Murphy was reprimanded for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
