BAY RUST – Blundered on jumping away and shortly after the start bumped with BLETCHY BOY. BLETCHY BOY – Bumped at start. CARDA MOJO – Bumped at start. TEMUJIN KHAN – Bumped at start. OLE PABLO – Overraced in the early stages when being restrained. SO YOU DRINK – Raced ungenerously in the early stages. TIN’S POCKET – Raced very ungenerously in the early stages when being restrained and as a result raced wide throughout. HEY MURRI – Had to be steadied leaving the 150m when tightened for room inside CARDA MOJO, which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider. Race 2: Furneys Stock Feeds BenchMark 75 H'cap – 1000m JUST AS LOYAL – Slow to begin. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. STORM CRAZY – Began awkwardly and lost ground. BRAVE DAZZLER – Began awkwardly and lost ground. When questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer K. Kemp advised that the gelding benefited from a brief let up and shorter distance of today’s event. THOMAS THE TANK – When questioned regarding the performance, jockey P. Romeo advised that after beginning from an outside barrier he had to pressure the horse to obtain its usual leading position and, in his opinion, the fast tempo of today’s race, combined with the weight of 59 kilograms, resulted in the horse tiring over the final 200m. .A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Race 3: Nuturf Class 1 H'cap – 1000m GINA BALLERINA – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Jockey R. Goltz reported at scale his mount hung out throughout the event. UNO BEST – Began awkwardly.DR DEEJAY – Tightened for room at the start.DALIWOY BAY – Began awkwardly and shifted out and bumped STAR STRIDER, and then was tightened for room shortly after. When questioned regarding the performance, which was below market expectations, trainer T. Dougall advised that, in his opinion, the performance was due to the gelding stepping up in class, and advised that the gelding would now be sent for a spell.STAR STRIDER – Bumped at start. Raced wide without cover in the early stages.AL ALMIGHTY – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.DEPUTY PECK – Raced wide without cover throughout. Race 4: SEDL Agencies QTIS 2yo Maiden Plate – 1000m CITY MARKET – Trainer P. Sexton was fined $100 for failing to declare a gear change of winkers off and blinkers on for the filly. Bumped near the 850m. Raced greenly in the home straight and shifted in abruptly near the 150m. Raced wide throughout. THUMBS UP – Slow to begin. Hampered shortly after the start and lost ground. HALFETI – Slow to begin. Hampered shortly after the start. Hung in in the early stages. WITH A PROMISE – Blundered at the start and then bumped with LITTLE RED ANGEL. Jockey B. Stewart pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip 7 times prior to the 100m. Jockey Stewart was suspended from riding in races for a period of 7 days, to commence at midnight, 19 March and to expire at midnight, 26 March. In assessing penalty stewards took into account jockey Stewart’s poor record in relation to this rule. LITTLE RED ANGEL – Bumped at start. Jockey M. Schrapel was reminded of his obligations regarding whip use on horses out of contention. CRAIGLEA QUEUES – Began awkwardly and lost ground, and was then tightened for room shortly after the start. Raced ungenerously in the middle stages when being restrained from heels, and near the 600m whilst racing ungenerously brushed the running rail. Brushed the running rail again leaving the 500m. ASTARAC – Bumped near the 850m. Momentarily steadied rounding the home turn when HALFETI shifted out when insufficiently clear. B. Newport, rider of HALFETI, was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground. SIR BAM – Raced wide throughout.Race 5: Stephanie Duff Memorial Ratings Band 0-65 H'cap – 1625m QUALITY MAN – Slow to begin.PERISHA – Slow to begin.WILL’S CHOICE – Raced wide. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. QUAD – Raced wide in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. PINBALL DAWN – When questioned regarding the performance, which was below market expectations, stable representative E. Dorrington advised that it was the mare’s first run over 1600m and, in her opinion, was not suited by the increase in distance. Race 6: Strathayr Maiden Plate – 1625m MCDINGA – Blundered badly at the start, resulting in its rider losing the use of her near-side iron for the first 100 metres and losing considerable ground. LADY HARRIET – Slow to begin.FLASH MAGIC – Held up on the heels of a tiring runner for a short distance near the 600m. KENKERJOCA – Bumped near the 1300m. ARAZI ROSSA – Bumped near the 1300. Trainer M. Jokic advised stewards the mare would now be retired, however he was still advised that the horse, which raced uncompetitively, must trial satisfactorily should it race again. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. CRIMSON GOD – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. EMMADEE – Jockey B. Appo was reprimanded for using his whip in 3 consecutive strides prior to the 100m. When questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer T. Webb could offer no tangible explanation for the improvement. He indicated that the filly had been working well in the lead up to tonight’s event, however there was no stable support for her. Jockey B. Appo advised at scale that, in his opinion, the filly benefited from the removal of the blinkers tonight. KENKERJOCA – Apprentice J. Hodge was questioned regarding the tactics adopted in the middle stages in which he opted to shift from a position one back on the fence to race outside the leader, forcing ARAZI ROSSA 3 wide. Stewards were also concerned with the tempo set during the middle stages of the event. Apprentice Hodge advised stewards his instructions were to lead and attempt to establish a significant margin on the main body of the field by the 800m. After viewing the video footage of the race, apprentice Hodge agreed with stewards he had erred by shifting out from a trailing position and that the tempo set from that point was not beneficial to his horse’s chances in the event. Bearing in mind apprentice Hodge’s relative inexperience and the instructions given, stewards took no further action. Race 7: Tyrrells Wines Maiden H'cap – 1050m RHYME NOR RHYTHM – Began awkwardly and shifted out, bumping DUBLEO DABBLE. DUBLEO DABBLE - Tightened for room and bumped at the start. TEMUJIN STAR – Tightened for room at the start and shortly after the start bumped with NEW MOON. Shifted in abruptly of its own accord near the 600m. NEW MOON – Bumped shortly after the start.DUBLE MEANING – Apprentice B. Newport reported at scale he dropped his whip passing the 100m. HIDDEN ANGEL – Raced greenly over the concluding stages. FOR ME ARGENTINA – Jockey T. Brooker reported that her mount hung in for the majority of the event and did not ride the mare out with her usual vigour as she felt something was amiss with its action.
