RACE 1: ART & SOUL QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1050M

After viewing the Stewards’ patrol footage, N. Evans, rider of LIBERTY JANE, placed 4th by the Judge, lodged an objection against SI SI SEQUALO being declared the winner, alleging interference near the 150m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, it was established that although SI SI SEQUALO did shift in near the 150m and make heavy contact with LIBERTY JANE, Stewards did not believe that given the margin of 1¾ lengths separating both runners at the finish they could be satisfied that had the interference not occurred, LIBERTY JANE would have beaten SI SI SEQUALO to the finish and therefore dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings. At a subsequent inquiry apprentice B. Panya, the rider of SI SI SEQUALO, was reprimanded for permitting her mount to shift in and for failing to correct it sooner than she had on this occasion. In assessing penalty, Stewards were mindful of the racing manners of both horses and that apprentice Panya did make some attempt to correct her mount.

SI SI SEQUALO – Raced wide in the early stages.

CHASINGWAGTAILS – Slow to begin.

REAL MYSTIQUE – Began very awkwardly and was then inclined to hang out immediately following the start and lost ground. Clipped heels and blundered near the 250m when attempting a narrow run between runners, both of which shifted ground.

SCRIPTS – Jumped in at the start.

TREASURES OURS – Tightened for room shortly after the start. Trailed the field throughout and finished tailed off. When questioned regarding the horse’s performance, jockey K. Yoshida could offer no tangible explanation. Trainer M. Nolan’s representative, N. Hahn, was advised that the filly would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to racing again. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Following this race a storm with strong wind gusts passed through the area, resulting in the running rail between the 750m and the 1000m being blown over and having to be reinstated. As a result of the storm and the remedial work being carried out on the running rail, Races 2 to 6 were put back one race time, with Race 7 rescheduled to 9:10 pm.

The track was downgraded to SOFT 5 at 5:30 pm

RACE 2: TRACKSIDE PHOTOGRAPHY BENCHMARK 75 H'CAP – 1110M

The announcement of correct weight was delayed when the connections of PUFF’S GIRL, placed 3rd by the Judge, requested to view the photo finish image for 2nd. After viewing the available image, Stewards, in consultation with the Judge, amended the Judge’s placings for 2nd to a dead heat between OL’ BROWN EYES and PUFF’S GIRL.

REBEL ROVER – Bumped heavily and tightened for room at the start. Overraced when being steadied from heels near the 900m. Pulled up by rider near the 200m. Bled both nostrils. Ineligible to race for 3 months and prior to starting again must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of a steward.

In this incident SPEAR OF DESTINY made contact with the running rail and shifted out abruptly making heavy contact with DAZZLING HALO. N. Tomizawa, the rider of PUFF’S GIRL, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that he permitted his mount to shift in at that point when insufficiently clear. Jockey Tomizawa’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 10 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 10 December and expire at midnight on Tuesday 20 December 2016.

ARCHDUKE – Tightened for room at the start. Performed below market expectations. When questioned, S. Fawke advised that in his opinion the gelding did not handle the soft track. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

ROCK ‘N RHUMBA – Apprentice R. Williams reported that the gelding did not feel comfortable and did not travel well throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities other than that the gelding had lost the near fore plate in running. Trainer K. Kemp’s stable representative, E. Dorrington, advised that the stable would advise Stewards should anything come to light in coming days which may have had an effect on the performance.

TWO FOR THE ROAD – Bumped with AKUA near the 400m.

AKUA – Overraced for a short distance near the 1100m  and brushed the running rail when being restrained from the heels of TWO FOR THE ROAD, which crossed when insufficiently clear. Beau Appo, the rider of TWO FOR THE ROAD, was advised to exercise more care. Bumped with TWO FOR THE ROAD near the 400m. When questioned regarding the horse’s poor performance, trainer B.
