IRONBORN – On returning to scale apprentice E. Ljung reported that after being bumped heavily near the 900m her mount never travelled comfortably from that point and had a tendency to hang out. She added that when placed under pressure in the home straight the gelding failed to respond as she had anticipated.

Banks, the rider of DINA’S DRAGON, was reprimanded. On returning to scale apprentice E. Ljung could offer no explanation for the horse’s poor performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer D. Baker advised that in light of the poor performance tonight, the horse will be spelled immediately.

ALFIE JUNIOR – Began awkwardly.

COUSIN BEN – Steadied from heels near the 1300m.
RACE 5: PITTSWORTH HARDWARE MITRE 10 MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M
The start of this race was delayed when BLEU and SHEER EASY proved difficult to load.
TEEROYS TRIBUTE – Bumped heavily on jumping away and lost ground. Held up approaching the home turn.
THE KNICK – Trainer B. Currie was fined $100 for failing to produce the horse’s identification card. After being bumped by LIBERTY JANE approaching the 400m, became unbalanced and lost considerable ground. In considering the matter, Stewards were of the opinion that THE KNICK had overreacted to the incident and that its racing manners were major contributing factors to the horse losing ground. Nevertheless, S. Bogenhuber, the rider of LIBERTY JANE, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
SHEER EASY – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. On returning to scale apprentice E. Ljung reported that her mount raced greenly throughout the event and would derive benefit from today’s racing experience.
LIBERTY JANE – Steadied near the 900m after being taken across the heels of another runner by ALLORIAN. A. Denby, the rider of ALLORIAN, was advised to exercise more care.
