Spinks, the rider of SOLTINHO LAD, was reprimanded for failing ride his mount out to the end of the race. GENERALAs apprentice E. Ljung was indisposed due to illness, and as M. RACE 1: UBET RATINGS BAND 0 – 58 H’CAP – 1000M JETINTOIT – Bumped at the start. DEPUTY PECK – Raced three wide throughout. Inclined to lay out and raced ungenerously for a short distance near the 400m. Checked and shifted in to avoid the heels of another runner approaching the 100m. VIVA LA PROXY – Began awkwardly and shortly after the start was bumped by NEWCASTLE DANCER and then made contact with the hind quarters of CHIPEWYAN. Inconvenienced near the 950m and had to be steadied from the heels of NEWCASTLE DANCER which was hanging in. NEWCASTLE DANCER – Bumped another runner shortly after the start. Hung in in the early stages. Raced three wide without cover. CLEVER BUTTONS – Raced three wide throughout. CHIPEWYAN – Became unbalanced when bumped on the hind quarters shortly after the start. DAKOTA ROCKS – Stewards questioned S. Bogenhuber regarding the horse settling further back in the field than the horse’s established racing pattern. Jockey Bogenhuber advised that her instructions were to ride the horse with cover from the wide barrier tonight if possible. She added that for this reason she did not urge the horse vigorously out of the barriers and as a result of the quick early speed shown by other runners she settled further back in the field than anticipated. Stewards noted the explanation. RACE 5: SEDL AGENCIES QTIS 3YO BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1650M GOLDEN DEPART, which had become fractious in the barriers, was removed, examined by the veterinary surgeon and declared a late scratching at 7:42 pm on veterinary advice that the horse was lame in the near hind leg. GENERAL COS – Began awkwardly and made contact with another runner. LIVING LIFE LARGER – Tightened for room passing the 1100m and had to be checked. VOLTAIC – As apprentice J. Brand was to be overweight, apprentice H. English was substituted as rider. After considering apprentice Brand’s good record, stewards issued a reprimand. Tightened for room passing the 1100m and had to be checked. Bradley Appo, the rider of GENERAL COS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift in that point when insufficiently clear of VOLTAIC and LIVING LIFE LARGER, resulting in both runners being tightened for room and having to be checked. Bradley Appo’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 8 days, to commence immediately and expire at midnight on Sunday 22 January 2017. In determining penalty, stewards took into account jockey Appo’s good record and the low degree of interference.
