GENERAL

As apprentice E. Ljung was indisposed due to illness, and as M. Hellyer was unable to fulfil his engagement in Race 1 due to riding commitments at the Gold Coast, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

RACE 1: UBET RATINGS BAND 0 – 58 H’CAP – 1000M

JETINTOIT – Bumped at the start.

DEPUTY PECK – Raced three wide throughout. Inclined to lay out and raced ungenerously for a short distance near the 400m. Checked and shifted in to avoid the heels of another runner approaching the 100m. Had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.

I’M NO RUBY – Steadied after being placed in restricted room after passing the 100m.

TIN’S POCKET – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped JETINTOIT. Overraced in the early stages. Clipped the heels of another runner and blundered approaching the 100m when attempting to shift out to secure clear running.

VIVA LA PROXY – Began awkwardly and shortly after the start was bumped by NEWCASTLE DANCER and then made contact with the hind quarters of CHIPEWYAN. Inconvenienced near the 950m and had to be steadied from the heels of NEWCASTLE DANCER which was hanging in.

NEWCASTLE DANCER – Bumped another runner shortly after the start. Hung in in the early stages. Raced three wide without cover.

CLEVER BUTTONS – Raced three wide throughout.

CHIPEWYAN – Became unbalanced when bumped on the hind quarters shortly after the start.

RACE 2: ALTITUDE MOTEL CLASS 3 PLATE – 1210M

ABITAZAR – Steadied to avoid the heels of another runner near the 900m and lost ground.

COUNTER MEAL – Raced wide without cover.

LISTANERA – Bumped at the start and became unbalanced. On return to scale M. Schrapel reported that his mount travelled strongly throughout the event, however when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing.

CELTIC RUSH – Began awkwardly, lost ground and then failed to muster early speed.

MAXWELLS CREEK – Stood flat-footed at the start, lost some ground and then failed to muster speed.

CAPTAIN’S PICK – Performed disappointingly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities other than that the horse had lost the off fore plate in running.

YOU SAY NO WAY – Bumped at the start. Raced keenly in the early stages.

RACE 3: FASTWAY COURIERS BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 1875M

ASTRO AVALANCHE – Compounded from the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the near foreleg. Trainer B. Snelling was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to being permitted to race again.

KEMPELLY – Began awkwardly.

EL GRECO – Steadied to avoid heels near the 1400m.

WOW FACTOR – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Forced wider on the track leaving the 800m.

WAR FRONT – Slow to begin.

RACE 4: HIT FM RATINGS BAND 0 – 58 H’CAP – 1650M

The start of this race was delayed when KID CRUIZE and CALL ME RUSTY, which were both fractious in the barriers, were removed from the barriers, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

ATEACES – Slow to begin.

CALL ME RUSTY – Held up for clear running approaching and rounding the home turn.

OUR CLARKY – Stewards permitted apprentice H. English to replace apprentice A. Sewell as rider.

BAY HERO – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

JORJA’S JET – Slow to begin and slow to muster early speed.

KID CRUIZE – Caught wide in the early stages.

DAKOTA ROCKS – Stewards questioned S. Bogenhuber regarding the horse settling further back in the field than the horse’s established racing pattern. Jockey Bogenhuber advised that her instructions were to ride the horse with cover from the wide barrier tonight if possible. She added that for this reason she did not urge the horse vigorously out of the barriers and as a result of the quick early speed shown by other runners she settled further back in the field than anticipated. Stewards noted the explanation.

RACE 5: SEDL AGENCIES QTIS 3YO BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1650M

GOLDEN DEPART, which had become fractious in the barriers, was removed, examined by the veterinary surgeon and declared a late scratching at 7:42 pm on veterinary advice that the horse was lame in the near hind leg. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on GOLDEN DEPART be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

17 cents in the dollar for the Win #5
16 cents in the dollar for place of winner #5
16 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #1

Trainer M. Nolan was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance before being permitted to race again.

REAL MYSTIQUE – Slow to begin. Raced keenly rounding the turn near the 1300m.

GENERAL COS – Began awkwardly and made contact with another runner.

LIVING LIFE LARGER – Tightened for room passing the 1100m and had to be checked.

VOLTAIC – As apprentice J. Brand was to be overweight, apprentice H. English was substituted as rider. After considering apprentice Brand’s good record, stewards issued a reprimand. Tightened for room passing the 1100m and had to be checked. Bradley Appo, the rider of GENERAL COS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift in that point when insufficiently clear of VOLTAIC and LIVING LIFE LARGER, resulting in both runners being tightened for room and having to be checked. Bradley Appo’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 8 days, to commence immediately and expire at midnight on Sunday 22 January 2017. In determining penalty, stewards took into account jockey Appo’s good record and the low degree of interference.

RACE 6: BRISBANE RIVERVIEW HOTEL CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1310M

GOLLY GOSH – Began awkwardly and shifted out.

LONTANA  – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground.

RUBY GURU – Tightened for room at the start.

SILVER SCREEN – Raced three wide without cover.

RACE 7: GRAND CENTRAL MAIDEN PLATE – 1210M

DRUMS OF THUNDER – Tightened for room at the start.

THE KNICK – Tightened for room at the start. Compounded from the 500m. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stewards will contact trainer B. Currie regarding the horse’s performance.

ZYGALSKI – Tightened for room at the start. Raced wide throughout.

BIG THUNDER – Steadied near the 1000m to avoid the heels of THE KNICK, which was taken in by CAPTAIN LEO, which shifted in when not completely clear. N. Tomizawa, the rider of CAPTAIN LEO, was reprimanded.

FRONT FOOT – Raced keenly in the early stages of the event. Steadied at the 800m when placed in restricted room.

ONYX LASS – Checked badly at the 500m when racing to the inside of FRONT FOOT, which was taken in by THE KNICK, which shifted in and away abruptly from another runner. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

IRISH EYES – Connections advised that it would be the intention to have the filly ridden in a forward position if circumstances permit. They added that contrary to the instructions issued at the horse’s previous start not to use the whip, the rider would be instructed to use the whip at his discretion. The horse raced in a handy position.

RED BEACH – Tightened for room at the start. Raced wide throughout.
