Weir Race 1: K&R PLUMBING SUPPLIES CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1000M The start of this race was delayed when NOURISHING required farrier attention prior to leaving the enclosure. WAKE UP SAILOR – On returning to scale jockey S. Bogenhuber reported that she intended to obtain a forward position in the event however in the early stages, when runners to her inside showed similar speed to that of her mount, she was unable to cross these runners, and as a result the horse raced wide without cover throughout the event. FIVE SPICES – Blundered on jumping away. Raced wide for the majority of the event. PICK OF THE PUBS – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. NOURISHING – J. Oliver could offer no explanation for the filly’s disappointing performance. ACADINI – As no other rider was available at the weight, T. Banks was permitted to ride the gelding ½ kg overweight. Race 2: LYSAGHT TOOWOOMBA CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1625M After becoming cast in the barriers, GOLDEN DEPART was removed, examined by the veterinary surgeon and declared at late scratching at 3.37pm on veterinary advice. Following the event, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on GOLDEN DEPART be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers: 7 cents in the dollar for the Win #1014 cents in the dollar for place of winner #109 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #514 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #4 Trainer M. Nolan will be advised that the horse must obtain a further barrier certificate before being permitted to race again. SPANISH FELLA – Improved onto heels at the 750m and was eased. HIGHTOWER – As the horse was drawn in the adjoining barrier to GOLDEN DEPART, it was removed after that runner became cast, underwent a veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Bumped at the start. Raced keenly in the early stages. SILVER SCREEN – Bumped at the start. Raced keenly in the early stages. CHATARA – Stewards accepted J. Oliver’s explanation for being dually engaged in this event. A. Denby was substituted as the rider of this runner. Raced keenly in the early stages. STEWBALL - As no other rider was available at the weight, T. Banks was permitted to ride the gelding ½ kg overweight. HAMMERACK – When questioned by Stewards in relation to the improved performance of the gelding, trainer T. Dougall advised that following the horse’s poor performance at Miles on 11 February 2017 he freshened the horse up and altered its track work in preparation for today’s event. He added that the horse worked well on the Wednesday morning prior to today’s event, and whilst it was suited by the drop in weight for today’s event, and had previously shown a liking for this track, he was nevertheless surprised that the horse was able to win today’s event. Stewards noted the explanation. Race 3: DARLING DOWNS BRICK SALES QTIS 3YO FILLIES MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M DABKE – Forced wider on the track by another runner near the 900m. Raced three wide with cover throughout the event. JOMAR SAGA – Slow to begin. NIMIA – Began awkwardly. STAR MYST – Raced wide throughout without cover. On returning to scale apprentice B. Nothdurft reported that his mount raced greenly throughout the event. THUMBS UP – Had to be steadied away from the heels of another runner near the 900m. Held up and unable to improve from the 400m until the early stages of the home straight. Race 4: ALPINE REFRIGERATION OPEN H’CAP – 1200M CANTBUYBETTER – On returning to sale, apprentice B. Nothdurft reported that his saddle shifted back on jumping away, and as a result his mount raced ungenerously for a short distance in the early stages of the event. Steadied to avoid the heels of another runner near the 750m. Placed in restricted room when attempting to secure clear running in the home straight as a result of TISANI TOMSO shifting in. BLUE JEST – Due to transport difficulties, the horse was a late scratching at 12.10pm. TISANI TOMSO – Began awkwardly. FLYING CHARGER – Raced wide without cover throughout the event. OL’ BROWN EYES – Tightened for room and eased near the 100m when racing to the inside of CANTBUYBETTER, which was taken in by TISANI TOMSO (S. Sweeney), which shifted in when not completely clear. Apprentice S. Sweeney was reprimanded. Race 5: AMALGAMATED PEST CONTROL CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1200M KUZNETSOVA – Began awkwardly and lost ground. SUITE MOVER – Began awkwardly. Race 6: NATIONAL TILES/CARPET CALL CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1200M Upon arriving at the barriers, jockey A. Denby requested that a veterinary examination be carried out on SAINTLY LAD which in her opinion was irregular in its action in its preliminary. The veterinary examination failed to identify any obvious abnormality. Despite the results of the veterinary examination, jockey Denby advised the starter that she was not satisfied to ride the gelding in the event. On this advice from the starter, the Stewards declared the horse a scratching at 6.01pm, and following the event ordered that all monies invested on SAINTLY LAD be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers: 0 cents in the dollar for the Win #31 cents in the dollar for place of winner #33 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #4 CRUISE POWER – Began awkwardly. HELAROCITY – Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer L. Hatch for the late declaration of P. Romeo as rider. Slow into stride. Raced wide from the 600m. ROCKABELLA BOY – Raced wide from the 600m. GALLIVANTER CAT – On returning to scale jockey K. Yoshida advised that his mount, which was racing first up today, was not suited by the 1300m of today’s event, and would be better suited over longer distances in future starts. Race 7: COLORBOND MAIDEN PLATE – 1050M The start of the event was delayed when the saddle on DUBLEO DABBLE (S. Sweeney) shifted en route to the barriers which resulted in the horse being resaddled after arriving at the barriers. MAC’S BOY – Bumped at the start. ALLORIAN – Disappointed for a run near the 250m, and was forced to shift to the inside to secure clear running. REDEOUS – Raced ungenerously and shifted out bumping another runner rounding the turn near the 700m. Steadied when racing in restricted room near the 600m. LIPS ‘N HIPS – Bumped at the start.
